So far the raw wedges are a tour van only thing…unless you know someone. At the Pinehurst event guys were drooling over Harry Legend’s raw wedges and satin finish irons.🤩

They mentioned *potentially* having a run of raw wedges as a custom order thing, but weren't going to make it a bigger run that you'd buy in stores.

It would be kinda cool if they did something similar to the Bettinardi Hive releases.  Have some different head covers…maybe celebrating their golf history…sell limited numbers of raw wedges or satin finish irons and wedges….tour only hats etc. I had an email the other day from MGS that said one of the Wilson mallets finished first in their best mallet putters.

What an amazing experience!  This is how Wilson can make some moves.  Absolutely incredible for all involved.

Two things:

1.  You guys are going to make me go all Wilson in my bag this year…

2.  @knudson81 Please tell me you saw some raw wedges on the tour truck!  And if you did, I need that… 😂

@wam78 remember when you posted this back in February? Well...

Which makes sense - hoping the raw run is successful and they plan to make more.

It finally happened! I played golf on a day that the weather was gorgeous!!

Driver has been just continuously getting better every time I go out with it. I just love the setup of the Dynapwr LS behind the ball. The deep face and compact footprint just gives me so much confidence to go at it.

I think I’ve really gotten a handle on the left miss. I can get lazy and get quick from the top here and there. But for the most part it’s under control.

With that being said, I am noticing my ball is kind of hanging in the air. With the heavier than stock weight in the back and the 10.5° head, I think I may be spinning it a good amount.

I swapped the heavy weight forward and that did flatten out the flight but I could tell that stability suffered a touch. It wasn’t earth shattering or anything. I’m already at -1° on the sleeve, but I’m thinking the 9° head with the heavy weight in the back would get me that slighter flatter flight and a little less spin while maintaining stability.

Ok, so I am going to sing the praises of the Dynapwr LS driver a bit now so bear with me here.  I didn't have my kids last night like I initially thought, so I found myself with an evening to fill.  It was a toss up between catching up on chores, or trying to sneak on the course in the relatively calm mid 60's late May evening. Well, I wouldn't be here typing an update on the chores I did, so you know where I ended up.

Got to the course and got on the first tee pretty much right away.  Last group on the sheet just teed off and I was able to get on without issue.  I ended up having to do a lot of waiting as a single for a twosome of newer players that were in a cart and didn't quite have the etiquette down yet.  I initially only planned on 9 holes since it was almost 6 when I teed off.  I was playing pretty well and knew if i made good time I could get the back in also.  I was behind these guys for the entirety of the front 9.  On the 9th hole, I sat and watched one guy sit in the middle of the fairway on his phone while his friend was on the green, then drive the cart back and forth for a few minutes before I finally was clear to hit.  I channeled my grumpy old man anger, adrenaline, and capitalized on the good driving day I was having and absolutely crushed the drive.  I grabbed my bag, still miffed.  Marched myself down the fairway just wanting to finish the hole and get around these two before they had a chance to get to the back.

Well, I had a chance to just chat with them directly.  My ball was just a couple of paces off of the front edge of the green.  The second guy had taken the cart backwards into some trees again for some reason and I cleared him by 100 yards.  Thankfully, they were done after 9 holes.  I was able to get on the back and walk the second half in just under 1.5 hours.

But good lawd, that shot on #9 was insane.

image.png.ca87c5d3d9500158e9b58b4333eeba08.png

That drive on #9 was over 360 yards probably closer to 370.  There was no massive wind gust at my back, it wasn't mid summer conditions, the ground wasn't rock hard.  I don't think I have been that close to the green on this hole with no wind assistance in years.  I have driven it before, but only with some stiff wind at the back.  My gasts were all flabbered.  But, not too terribly shocked, I was striping this driver all day again.  Not that I was hitting every fairway.  But, everything was very playable and loooong.  3 of the fairways I missed were simply because I hit it longer than anticipated and went through the dogleg.

Last round I swapped the heavy weight from the rear to the front to see if I could knock a little spin off and flatten the flight a touch.  It's amazing how effective that minor change was.  I have used many front/back weight adjustable drivers and love when that adjustment actually yields noticeable changes.  I was on last night with the driver and was confident with that heavy weight forward.  I love the fact that I can set this up two different ways.  I can get a high launching higher spinning and straighter setup with the heavy weight back, or a flatter flying, faster, and lower spinning distance setup with that heavy weight forward.

After everything @Wilson_Golf has done for us, it is easy to assume that any praise I give can be misconstrued as me being a brand homer or being indebted to them.  But I have to say that the Dynapwr driver, specifically the LS, checks all of the major boxes I look for.  I haven't seen a deep face like this in years.  The closest I have seen is the Elyte TD and I don't like the head shape.  There aren't many classic compact drivers out there anymore like the Dynapwr LS.  The closest being something like the GT3, but even that isn't as compact and the face isn't nearly as deep.  I love the front/back adjustability.  The adjustments available are all meaningful to performance.  It feels phenomenal.  Plays pretty well off of the toe which is my miss.  It's the LS but it isn't unmanageably low spin.

Now it's not to say that it didn't take a little bit of testing and tweaking on my part to find the best setup for me.  I have moved on from the Lin-Q Red I was fit for during the event.  My swing wasn't its best self and they did everything they could to get me into something that I could get around a course with.  Now that I am a little more consistent, I am finding a heavier, stiffer, and lower launching profile is a better fit for me.  It's not as if the driver has cured any swing flaws.  I had to grind a bit and really focus on some issues I was having.  @Wilson_Golf_Harry pointed out that I was too quick at the top and those words stuck with me and trying to change that has made a big difference.

I have always been able to hit the ball pretty far.  If I hit a stretch of bad play or a bad setup for me, I can absolutely bleed strokes off of the tee.  Putt for dough and all of that.  But, if you're lying 3 or worse after you walk off the tee box, you're praying just to salvage a bogey.  This Dynapwr LS setup I have now may be the most confidence I have had off the tee since I was a much younger man.

One knock I have on it is that it's putting me in a position where I rarely even have a chance to try the fairways haha.  I didn't have anything longer than a 5i into any green last night.

Holy crap @radiman - insane drive!!! Love reading this review of the LS!

Haha, this is very true.  I am just absolutely impressed with it though.  The strides they've made are impressive.

It's not all sunshine and rainbows yet though.  I have been struggling with my wedges a bit.  I have really been having a hard time with the 60 around the green.  I have a tendency to play with my hands pressed a bit and I have really struggled with my 60 looking like there isn't a lot of loft.  I have been pitching it way further than I am used to and I have been struggling to adjust to it.  Typically by the end of the round I am better but I have usually lost a few strokes by then.

I stopped in to get my specs checked and my 60 was actually playing 58 and my 52 was around 50.  The 56 was pretty much spot on other than the lie angle needed some adjusting.  Could have been the flight back?  I don't know.  Either way, they're back where they need to be.

The guy who bent them back said they were like butter, bending with hardly any pressure.  Sounds like they're really soft which is great.  But, going to have to make a habit of getting my loft/lies checked.  I was on the verge of picking up some other options to try out just in case I couldn't get these sorted out.  But, I will give them a try again now that they've been readjusted to see if they can secure their spots in the bag.

It's tough between swings being different in season and conditions being different, but the Wilson stuff is top notch.  I'm tweaking shafts in the driver and 3 wood,  but have zero desire to try other clubs.

I've debated kicking the 58* out.  It's a great wedge BUT as my main course here gets baked, the 10* of bounce isn't doing me favors.  I'd love for the leading edge to sit a touch lower and have a little more trail edge relief.  If they end up releasing a run of the Raws, I might have to ask my wife for forgiveness after I hit buy on a 58/6.

Something something forgiveness over permission.  You know what you have to do...

What is the skinny on the shafts for the driver and woods?  What are you trying to change and what are you looking into?

So funny thing about forgiveness over permission:  I found a deal too good to pass up locally on a SeeMore SB20. I told my wife it was an impulse buy and linked SeeMore's site showing the 400 bucks new thinking she'd understand it was a joke. She was totally cool with my purchasing the retail version, and now she regrets telling me this.

Shaft wise -  I grabbed that Tensei Blue for the 3wd hoping to bring the launch and spin up just a touch as well as being a little heavier. The new adapter was supposed to get here today, but still stuck in Florida.

With the driver, I really think the stock length is a little long for me.   So I want to go a little shorter, a little stouter, and a little heavier.  For giggles I put the Denali 70g (old 3wd shaft) in and was kind of amazed.  So now I'm debating bumping that shaft out an inch to play 44.5 or grabbing a 70 something TX.

The site just shows a 60*.   Maybe they are only doing the 60 as an initial run, or there will be a few more options when it launches.

Yep yep!

Surprising they aren't offering the 6* bounce option. I was hoping for the 58/6. I'm considering the 60* and getting it bent to 58*, but that doesn't change the grind with more heel/toe/trail edge relief on the 6* vs the 10*.

Nice par! Or birdie I guess.🤔

And yeah…looking at the raw wedges as well.  Reading Harry’s description the raw wedges may be good for me in Phoenix as well. Everyone, no matter the handicap, will find themselves in the desert occasionally.  And wedges get scuffed on the sole. Without the plating it will be easier to sand down the sole a bit to smooth it out.

It's a US Open par 4,  but us less talented folks play it as a par 5.

Really fun hole though.   It kind of zig zags with ob on both sides.   So if you go too long left,  ob.  Try to cut the corner on the right and risk hitting the big oak,  or leaks too much right and ob again.

It's really a tight landing area for the driver.   The course sits up above the valley with all open farm land so plays a lot tougher with the wind.

Update: I’m embarrassed to say today was only my second round out with my new Wilson Clubs.

Some backstory for context… I took a little over a year off from playing golf once I got out of the golf industry in 2021. In 2022 I only played 9 rounds followed by 14.5 rounds in 2023 and 17 rounds in 2024.  My goal for 2025 was to hit 18 rounds.

Well, life got in the way of my plans with my wife and I purchasing our first home. The late spring, early summer was spent getting everything in order for the move, actually moving into our new house, and then completing projects around said house. Right as we started getting settled North Carolina experienced some pretty major flooding which was highlighted by four inches of rain last night. Before today, I had only played 6 rounds of golf in 2025. I’ll admit, I was starting to feel like I wasn’t deserving of this experience with how little I’ve played and updated this forum.

Cue to today. I woke up at 6:45 a.m. to check the forecast (which was looking grim) and headed out for my 8:30 a.m. tee time. The forecast called for a level one risk of severe storms with the potential for more flooding. Now days I pretty much refuse to play golf in the rain or really anything short of perfect conditions. But, I really wanted to play with my new Wilson Clubs and provide some feedback.

I was also selected for the GolfWRX Member’s Review: StrackaLine Yardage and Green Reading Books + GPS App and thought this would be a great way to kill two birds with one stone.

The entire drive to the course looked pretty grim. I actually had to call my home course and enquire about the rain check policy because I’ve never had to worry about it. As luck would have it we had a perfect (although soggy) morning out and got in all 18 holes before the storms roll in later this evening.

I’m pleased to report that the points I highlighted from our round on Karoo at Cabot Citrus Farms remain true:

  1. The DYNAPWR Carbon 3 and 5-woods are super easy to elevate. In my experience, any fairway wood that is easy to elevate typically comes with the trade off of excess spin (which doesn’t perform well in windy conditions). I have found the DYNAPWR Carbon 3 and 5-woods to be the best of both worlds. They are easy to elevate while still flighting the ball nicely and perform exceptionally well in the wind. Today on the par-5, 7th hole I found myself over 300 yards out with my ball nestled in a little depression in the right rough.  Normally, a lie like this would lead me to lay way back with an iron or hybrid to ensure I don’t top it. However, due to my experience at Cabot Citrus Farms I took my DYNAPWR Carbon 3-wood and advanced my ball much further down the fairway.  I would have never had the confidence to try that with my GT3 fairway wood.
  2. In my recap of the iron fitting with Ed I talked about my how my typical low center miss with my irons led Ed to recommend the DYNAPWR Forged over Staff Model CBs. At Cabot I tested that theory all day long. There were a few shots early on at Karoo (#3 tee, for example) where I missed low center on the face and it still carried onto the green. On the other hand, when I really hit one on the screws (#17 approach, for example) I found the DYNAPWR Forged launched higher and carried further than my T-150 irons.  I was hitting the ball much better today but still came away with the same impression.  Whenever I mishit it low on the face I looked up and saw my ball had carried the green side bunker or hazard and landed safely on the green.  Similarly, whenever I flushed one I found the ball to apex much higher, and carry slightly further than my T-150 would have likely carried. I mentioned during my recap of the trip that I would've liked a model between the Staff Model CBs and DYNAPWR Forged (Kind of like how the T-150 is between the T-100 and T-200). That still remains true. You see, I don’t have an issue making centered contact but I do have a problem adding loft. My hips tend to get ahead of my hands which leads me to get stuck on my trail (right) thigh and add loft at impact. This is where the tungsten pockets and stronger lofts of the T-150’s really shine for me. That being said, I also recognize that Wilson Golf needs to make the best decision for their company as a whole and not just cater to my specific needs.
  3. The DYNAPWR Carbon Driver continues to impress me. I found the first 5 consecutive fairways (and greens) in regulation today. During my fitting at Cabot Citrus Farms, @Wilson_Golf_Harry wanted to bring my ball flight down a touch and minimize my left miss. When I’m on the ball flight is on a rope and it feels like I can’t miss a fairway if I tried. However, both at Cabot Citrus Farms and today I found drives falling right as I got later into the round. We’re not talking about a massive slice here. We’re talking about bullets that fall right as the ball hits its apex. This stood out to me because I never see my ball move right of centerline. I bring this up share that, in my opinion, the DYNAPWR Carbon Driver is fade bias. During my round I caught myself thinking here is a carbon driver with a classic shape, clean look at address, and is fade biased - pretty much what every “WRX” member wants - for $100 less than other manufacturers. Why not give that a try? As for me, I shared my experience with the group at Cabot Citrus Farms and @Red4282 had a great suggestion. He recommended I bump up the loft to help raise my peak height while closing the face a little. Since I've had the same experience twice now I’m going to try this and will report back.

In summary, my biggest takeaway from today is that I really could play with my bag from @Wilson_Golf for every round this year and be completely satisfied.

Next month my wife and I will be going to Kiawah Island where I’ll be playing the Ocean Course on back to back days.  I’m planning to bring both bags and play one round with each bag and report back.  In the meantime I’m hoping to get down to Pinehurst and play The Cradle with a bag full of my four Wilson Staff Model ZM wedges and my four Vokey SM10 WedgeWorks wedges and do a head to head comparison.  Until then…
