What is this club?

Came accross this club recently.

I'm a bit confused. Is it a chipper or a 10 iron? Initially I thought it was a 10 iron based on the number stamped. But the loft is more like a modern 3 iron loft, and the blade height is too short. It's only about 2/3 the height of a ball.

It looks untouched, doesn't appear to have been bent or grinded down.

Well as you probably know on some sets of clubs it indicates a PW. But can't see how that would be the case here. So I have no clue on that one.

Yes very confusing. And I can't find any other sets or info anywhere on this model.

That club is fairly old. Conventions on numbering are not cast in stone, particularly 50 years ago. It is what it is.

Yeah, the number 10 seems to have been tossed around to different kinds of clubs through the history of golf equipment manufacturing. In my collection alone, I have a 1990 Yonex ADX Tour Forged 10 iron which indicates the PW of that set, a 1982 Titlest Tour Model "10" which happens to be a 55deg wedge (even though the bottom of the corresponding iron set goes 8, 9, PW), and a stubby MacGregor putter from the 60's or 70's with a "10" on the bottom.

So, no standards to be had, it appears.
