Hasn't L.A.B. pretty much said that unless you get a custom, fitted model - that they can't guarantee the performance of the product?

So, they are very purposefully funneling people into custom builds.

If L.A.B. had a different marketing strategy, then people might be more sympathetic.

No. Putter performs fine regardles. They are simply fitting for lie angle.  Pretty easy to figure out what lie angle you swing a putter on

Interesting.

So, you are saying that I should be able to "self-fit" myself into a L.A.B. putter?

That attitude seems to throw their whole "schtick" out the window. What happens when I self-fit myself to a L.A.B. and the ball still doesn't go in the hole?

You are really testing the credulity of the product being a "game changer" at this point.

Seems like L.A.B. is just another putter that might work for some and not for others. Welcome to golf.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Who said anything differently?  I’m far from a LAB apologist, but I understand the business and machining side of things very well.

you absolutely can self fit, which is what 98% of the pros who try them out are doing.  The “fitting” they do uses 2d video. They aren’t using SAM or Quintic and they aren’t testing aim (some independent fitters certainly are) and 99% of customs are ordering alignment setups based on what they think they like, not based on actual testing.

Right on. Seems like we are on the same page here. Super appreciate your input. 🙂

DF3 w TPT ordered 3/25 through my Proshop. The Proshop called the check the status at the 7W mark week and it’s still not in production. I’m starting to doubt that it’ll be here before July.

If I could do it again, I would use the 10% discount they email you and order direct.

I must be a sucker for punishment because I bought National Custom Works irons during Covid. But at least they were honest with the 10M delivery window. It’s better to underpromise and overdeliver (they delivered the irons in 7M) than send mixed messaging on the website, deprioritize retail orders, and have to read about stock and production delays on WRX.

Plus they charge your credit card immediately and use your money for months before delivering product.

I heard back from the pro shop, which received an update from LAB. To confirm what others have said here, they are currently not able to work on orders with TPT shafts since they don't have any in stock. They expect to receive a shipment in the next week, so my putter will go into production "around 5/25." That is 8W to the day the order was placed, so barring another setback, I'm hopeful that 10W is still in play, but worst case, 12W.

LAB can't sustain this for very long. Sure, they've grown and thrived to this point but the major OEMs are all releasing similar (not the same, I know) low torque putters which are cheaper and to the average golfer, do the same thing. Plus, they are everywhere and TM is about to add the ultra-popular Spider to the mix. You have to know that Ping are not far behind. We've all seen the protos.

I live in a city that has 2 fairly large golf shops. Neither have LABs because they can't get them. One shop owner told me he has been waiting 17 weeks just for stock models. The shop gets one or two here and there but they are still waiting for the original order. So, Odyssey Square 2 Squares are flying off the shelf. He already has an order in for 12 more + 20 Spiders. Those 32 putters will be gone in a week while he still waits on LABs.

One of two things is going to happen. LAB will be bought by one of the big boys OR they will return to the niche/boutique style putter they once were.

Is low/zero torque here to stay??? Not the way it is now. GUARANTEED!

LAB up to almost 20% dollar share of the new putter market. Big stores are getting stock (local GG had at least 8 on the rack). New wholesale accounts are apparently 12-16 week wait. Meanwhile, OEMs are deciding to launch competitors within shouting distance of LAB prices. The 5K-ZT will apparently be at parity to most LAB models.

At this scale and with the wholesale pipeline still super backed up, it is really hard to see it going away anytime soon. Things go away when demand is low not because it is high.

I have to wait 11 weeks for my custom fit DF3.  During that time, numerous time I almost bought the stock model in store or also on Ebay.

Now I have 5 rounds with the new Putter,  I have made so many putts with it from short range, mid range and long Bomb!  I have birdie every round, 8 total.  In hindsight, this is totally worth the wait.

Companies go away when demand is high, they cant meet demand, and competitors swoop in and start taking large chunks of that 20% share.

Being bought by a big boy would make a few very wealthy.

Seeing a lot of 11 weeks to receiving… you’d think they’d update the 6-8 weeks they quote people on custom orders.

anyone receiving closer to the 6-8?  I ordered a custom DF3 Counterbalance little over two weeks ago and was hopeful to have by end of June.

My March order was about 5 weeks

Orders direct through LAB seem to be fulfilled closer to what they quote you. Orders placed through an account like a retailer or pro shop take much longer. LAB definitely prioritizes the orders placed directly through LAB.

Yeah, like 5 minutes.
but definitely not my favorite experience.

so LAB can’t update me based on my order number because it went through a fitter (even though it’s on their letterhead)

the fitter is like, “not my problem, maybe 9 or 10 weeks”

order the thing, quietly wait 7 weeks, and then they are all mad at me for asking. I get no update.

zero percent I would have engaged in this had I known it’s all a cluster

oh well, it’s just money and time. Glad I have more of one than the other at least.
