We got a new outdoor range with Trackman. Today was my first time using Trackman and was just wondering how accurate it is into the wind? I was hitting into about a steady 10-15mph headwind, according to flag numbers the Trackman seemed off quite a bit.

Can’t you adjust the conditions like indoor sims?

Well that I'm not sure, This was my very first time with one.

I’m assuming trackman showed longer than the actual. Maybe just use it to learn proper clubbing for wind?

Actually Trackman Numbers was Shorter than the Flag Numbers. I was hitting 6i (Due to wind, I usually hit 7i 150) All around the 150yd flag But Trackman was showing like 135-140

I agree it didn't to me either, I thought I may have been doing something wrong or didn't know how to set it up since it was my first time

Trackman outdoors should be tracking the entire flight of the ball and should be accurate in its distance measurement.  For what it is worth, I just checked the Flightscope trajectory optimizer and, locally, happen to have a 13mph wind going on right now.  With the wind turned off, I set up a shot with some rough guesses at launch, spin, and ball speed to give me a 150y 7i shot.  With the wind set as a headwind, the software dropped the carry 128y.  So you hitting a 6i 135y-140y would make sense given the results from the trajectory optimizer.

But My ball was going to and little past the 150yd flag, That's what's not making any sense, That's why I'm wondering if there was something not right in the settings. I never did go under settings to set anything up cause I didn't really know I could change settings like that. Again my first time with Trackman and I didn't really know how to use it

Might seem like a silly question, but did you confirm the distance of the 150 flag with a rangefinder?

That's the very first thing I did was shot the flag distances with my RF

Is it Trackman Range or an actual Trackman 4 for every bay? If it’s just the range it’s pretty inaccurate. Don’t believe it measures spin

There's one for every bay. I didn't see spin calculation now club head speed

So what's the difference in the systems? I thought Trackman was Trackman Why are these I'm speaking of inaccurate?

Trackman Range does not have club head data so it can’t accurate calculate spin. The spin data is what makes carry numbers accurate

Ok so really what good is using something like this if it's gonna be off that much? I was really expecting it to be better that what it was

I’d say in normal, calm conditions it’ll be closer to normalized. May also be off depending on the golf balls you’re using

Yeah I thought about the Balls, They were TaylorMade but they are like any other Range ball, beat to death. Probably 5-10yds shorter just due to that

According to the Trackman website, the Range version isn't really the same thing and having a Trackman behind your ball.  The Range version is designed to track the flight of all the balls flying on the range simultaneously, but doesn't have the club and spin data.  From what they say the system still tracks the full flight of the ball, so it should be giving you an accurate distance.  But, I would imagine that a system like this might have some calibration issues that could throw things off.  I'd talk to the course/range about it.

So you saying my bay could be picking up someone else beside me ball flight??

I've never used the Range, but generally trust that the people making Trackman know what they are doing.  That being said, because there are multiple radars set up around the driving range to track the golf balls, I could see that the calibration of a system like that might be a little bit trickier to keep everything working correctly.
