2025 Maxfli Tour/X/S Reviews

I just bought two dozen of the Tour X align. I unfortunately havent been able to do a ball test comparison yet, but through one round of golf and one session this morning on the sim it does seem to be lower spin than they spinnier X offerings out there (typically play either Wilson Staff Model X or Callaway Chrome Tour X which I think is the highest spin "tour" ball out there). My driver spin is typically around the 2,550-2,750 range, this morning on the sim it was 2,200-2,400. Love the driver flight and numbers, but a little worried it won't spin enough for me on my irons and wedges. We'll see.

I picked up a dozen Tour X balls and did a comparison against the 2025 ProV1x. I tried to be as consistent with swing speed as possible between each ball. Data taken from my SkyTrak+ with 5 shots per ball with each club (except on the 7w where it was 4). Both balls felt very similar - all clubs denoted as “…#2” are results with the Tour X:

What is great by this, in both documented indoor and outdoor testing, the Maxfli shows comparable spin with 2-8 yard total loss in driver distance. A pretty fair trade for half the price of a pro v...

I'm in the same boat - tonight I'm hoping to get in ~9+ holes before dark and do some comparisons of the Tour X against the ProV1x.  I'll report back later tonight...

I jumped on the Maxfli ball this year to try them out.  I got the ‘23 version of both the Tour and the Tour X on a deal - 1 dozen each.

I like them both - especially for the price - they have to be the best bang for the buck.    I think the X is giving me more than the regular one is. Great distance, control, spin, flight and durability.

Question:  I thought that I heard the ‘25 Tour is closer to the ‘23 Tour X?  Can anyone confirm?  Looking go all in on Maxfli.

Thanks in advance!

I've been playing the 23' Tour since I got 8 dozen 18 months ago.  I also play the 22'  Vice Pro because of a similar purchase binge.  They are very close in performance for me but I think the Vice Pro is a tad "softer".  That being said I've been playing some TP5 Pix that are at least one generation, possibly 2, prior to 2025 that my daughter got me a dozen for Xmas.  I have to say, they spin like crazy.  On softer greens I'm backing up balls with a 9 iron.  That may seem great but I do get more "fade" spin that is a difference to being on the fairway or in the rough or woods.  I really like the less spin characteristics of the Maxfli Tour and why that is my "Gamer" for league and competition rounds.

I've yet to play the 2025 ball and hoping there's no discernable difference between the '23 and '25.  I don't think I have the swing speed to play the X ball (Driver distance ranges from 210-215 on 'OK contact and 220-230 on good contact (Northeast at sea level).  So if the '25 Tour is playing like an 'X then I'll either have to try the Tour S or go back to Vice, Unfortunately.

I'm usually a data guy, but after grinding over the decision of what ball I should try, between the tour and tour x, as well as a few other options, I decided on the tour X and couldn't be happier.  Could be that I'm currently playing the best golf of my life, but its giving me everything I want out of the ball.  Spin around the greens has been exactly what I want, and haven't noticed any give in driver distance from the pro V1.

The idea that slower swing speed players can't play a high compression X ball is a myth.  For example, take a look at Titleist's LPGA Tour golf ball players... on their website they list 72 playing the V1X, 61 playing the V1, and no one playing the AVX.  And it's not just the long hitters using the V1X.  Some of the shortest hitters (like Danielle Kang and Aditi Ashok, both averaging around 240) are playing the V1X.  If softer golf balls were better for slower swing speed players, you'd expect at the very least the Titleist players to be heavily weighted toward the V1, possibly with some AVX use, but the fact that more are playing the V1X should tell you that picking a golf ball isn't purely about swing speed.

Did some testing last night on the course (Cinnabar Hills, San Jose, CA) with the Tour X versus ProV1x.  Had the best driver results in distance and accuracy in a long time - off all clubs the ball did well into the wind and down-wind.  Durability was really, really good - only blemish was me hitting a cart path on a drive, but the ball still performed over the remaining 3 holes of the round.  Spin and feel off the wedges and putter were on par with the ProV1x for me and I didn't notice any significant difference.  I'll be moving over to the Tour X and looking forward to the rest of the season!

I get what you're saying and are probably right.  This, then, is now a mental issue.  If I'm playing an "X" ball I start swinging harder and throw my tempo off and hit crappy shots. LOL.  This aggravates me because I purposefully stayed away from the "X" models because of this "Myth".

I hate this game. LOL.

Why do these ball companies market the balls like this then?  Wouldn't it be more beneficial to market to what the ball characteristics are rather than swing speed?  Take Vice for instance.  They purposefully market the Pro Plus to higher swing speed players because of the four piece construction.  This has to be bulls**t because the TP5 is a five piece construction and they have an "X" model.

Now I have to buy more golf balls to test this out!   🤦‍♂️

I realize this is rhetorical...

I'm reminded of the days of the wound balls, the 90 vs 100, and how it was frequently mentioned that even the fastest players didn't play the 100.

The irony of that being, per Dean Snell, they were nowhere near that level for overall golfball compression, even for the so called 100s...

You can blame Bridgestone with the original Precept MC Lady and the anecdotal stories of guys with slower swingspeeds trying them out and hitting them farther than their regular tour balls.  Bridgestone played the game and went all in with a speed-tiered marketing campaign that wasn't really backed with and hard research.  I believe it was Callaway who then followed suit with the what eventually led to the original Chrome Soft.  Then everyone else sort of began to dip their toes into the speed driven water...including Titleist to a degree.  But, to be fair to Titleist...and I'm far from a Titleist ball homer...they were the first company that I recall that began to push back against the speed driven narrative several years back.

Because of that narrative, I used to stay far away from any X ball (as I top out at around 102 dr ss) until recently when a friend of mine nudged me to just try a sleeve of the original Mizuno RB Tour X's he got for cheap.  Had the durability of tissue paper, but it really opened my eyes.  Between it and the non X RB Tour, I hardly noticed a difference tee to green.  Distances were pretty similar off the tee with the X occasionally outdriving the regular by 3-5 yds but with a mildly higher flight on average.  What really got me was the extra bite on greenside pitches and chips.

Since then, I began experimenting with the Srixon XV vs Z star, TM TP5X vs TP5 and most recently Tour vs Tour X.  Results are similar in most aspects for my game and realized it mostly boils down to feel for me.  I think the Mizuno Pro X hits the sweet spot for me for feel, but the Tour X performs just as well for me at a bargain price.  What I've begun to experiment with is using non X balls when I'm not making the most consistent contact on pitches and chips as the roll out a bit more consistently as opposed to getting the occasional "nippy" shot due to swing inconsistency with the X and having it come super short.

I get that "nippy" shot with the TP5.  The MT don't much but I spin it on longish chips and pitches.  Same with the Vice Pro.

I WISH I had a 102 mph SS! LOL.  Mine hovers in the 92-95 range.  Good contact on driver I'll carry 220-230.  My average carry is 215-220 unless the fairway is hard with a tailwind.  I'll get out to 250 total with those conditions.

I'm not as consistent a ball striker that my HCP suggests (12 index).  My 120 yds into short game is what saves me.  I like the spin I get on the MT for the 30-120 yd shots and like the roll out from the chipping.

Trying to work through random TP5 and Chrome Soft to play the MT and Vice Pro only.  I have the KSig RS for certain courses with insane amounts of water hazards and to give to my son to play because, tho he's 24, daddy brings the golf balls. LOL.

Found a Maxfli Tour X out in the wild and it's a really good urethane ball.  Color me surprised, even SHOCKED!!!  Distance wise, it's right up there with pretty much any urethane X ball, spins enough with irons and green side spin is pretty good.(don't like balls that stop and spin back).  I will be picking up a box soon as the price is good and it performs well for my swing.

I just ordered 2 dozen each of the Tour and Tour X to test. GG is running one of its many sales plus had a reward voucher. I really like the idea of the alignment lines in the new version (was a fan of the TP5x stripe). I'll be taking it to the Trackman to test vs Pro V1 this weekend.
