Zero Torque- TaylorMade Spider!

I’ve only played one round with spider zt, but so far I’m impressed. Distance control needs work… still getting used to the soft face. I bought some silver auto pinstripe off Amazon to extend the sight line. Easy to attach and remove.

Tried this tonight for the first time in my local Golftown on their indoor green, and I have to say this stick gave me the heebeejeebees. It's much bigger than I expected, and the centre shaft ZT thang just may not be my bag baby.

 

I really really really wanted to like it, was prepared to dish out $733 (Taxes included in the People's Republic of Ontario) but just couldn't get behind it. Didn't think the sightline (or lack thereof) would bother but it did! I guess I've got so used to the 'True Path' on my Spider...

 

For the first time in my golfing life I walked away, still can't believe it but I'm playing well and putting lights out so perhaps best to leave well enough alone.

Trying to revive this thread. Curious to hear about the experience of those who have been testing/gaming the new Spider ZT.

I'm still loving mine even with a bit of a struggle yesterday on the greens. I went from member-guest, to vacation and back to my usual course over the last two weeks so a decent sample size. I find its very easy to hit my lines, speed control has been mostly good with a few short or long ones here and there. Chock that up to still getting used to it and still feeling a bit new. Yesterday was my first day that Id call a struggle but I think it was just me losing focus and struggling in other areas. Having said that I still made some great putts which is what I want to see even on an off day.

Was clicking around the TM Direct site today after checking to see if there was any movement on my putter and noticed the ZT's can be ordered custom for dealers now with estimated shipping in September.  No loft or lie customization, but length and grip are available, and the standard ZT model you could select black or chrome shaft.

Played 18 on the weekend and putted the best I ever have. Pretty much every putt was on my line and distance control was better than I've had with any other putter. I tried my friend's spider tour x, interestingly I found that way more stable on the backswing, felt like it just wants to go back in a straight line without much effort, whereas the ZT I have to control a bit more on the back swing.

ZT is fantastic. I’m three rounds in with a 35” and rolling it like I’ve had it for years. Feels slightly firmer than I remembered the old Spider X feeling, and the sound is muted but sounds pure. The roll off the face is truer than I’ve seen in a long time. Made me realize how jumpy and skippy I was rolling it with my blade. 29 putts last round, but that was also with a higher GIR than usual meaning I generally had slightly longer putts. I do like the pics where guys are painting on extended lines, but I haven’t had any issue with alignment so I’ll keep it stock for the time being. Truly a 10/10 blind purchase that I expect to keep in the bag for a very long time!

Saw a video of this putter in the revealer and it passed with flying colors. Reviewer said it was the best they had seen and easily on par with Lab. These were of the rack putters too.

I saw that video over on YT as well, it really did pass without question. I think the Betti's were the only other "ZT"ish putters to do well.

I’ve played two rounds with this putter so far, and I have to say it’s been better than my LAB Mezz Max broomstick. I’ve been practicing my putting a lot lately, so my stroke has been solid, but I genuinely think the Zero Torque design makes it easier to focus purely on my stroke.

I loved my LAB putter for short putts, but I always struggled with distance control on longer ones. Because of that, I had switched back to my Spider X with a slant neck for a while. When this new model came out, I was on the fence it’s definitely pricey to buy brand new. But I’ve used this head shape for so long that I figured it might work well for me, even without testing it first.

I took the plunge and ordered it and I really love it.

 

Distance control has been excellent, the ball rolls beautifully, and my stroke feels very consistent. The head is a bit bigger than I expected, and the face does appear slightly more shut at address when aligned to the target—but I’m getting used to that.

Overall, I’m really happy with it. I’ll be selling my broomstick soon.

• There is a lot of discussions on Zero Torque putters which came from COG and MOI. It's like these are new discoveries. But Bobby Grace was making a big deal about these things a couple of decades ago. He actually put the MOI numbers on the heads of the different designs and models. Once he left MacGregor long ago that company faded and Bobby now has a small cutting edge company on his own doing business on his own terms. He eshews the Tours and the cost and crew it takes to do that. And he is having more fun. I have two variations of his Night and Day models (one is below in the article. I have been using mine for 6+ years and I have found no need to look for anything else to play in all conditions and grasses anywhere. Check him out, he is now in Highlands NC. You can even call him and talk about today's science along with the old world. His putters for MacGregor won dozens and dozens of event on all tours and well over $60 million in the early 2000s.

Anyone change grips on the normal length ZT? Looking to put my preferred grip a flatso 2.0 on but curious how noticeable better or for worse losing the 1° grip lean would be.

looking forward to some pictures. I have been debating some different alignment options but my first couple rounds have been pretty good with the small line.

^I would like to know about this as well, I dont like lean grip at all.

I managed to pick up a ZT this week, i've been putting on and off lately with my Spider X and missing a lot of short putts so thought i'd give one a go.

 

Went in thinking I'd just get the 34" like my Spider but they didn't have one....I tried the 38" CB and the butt kept catching on my clothing so no good, however, I then spotted the 36" CB and gave that a go!

 

It's great as I can grip down to 34" if I want to or go to 35" if my back is playing up, the Graphite Shaft feels great and short putts were 10 for 10.

 

It will take a few rounds to get used to as I feel I need to swing it slightly different (the hands don't need to rotate to close up the face) but i'm looking fiorward to getting out on the course with it on Saturday!!

I wrote TM on their website, and they wrote back saying a grip change would not effect at all problem wise ( I wrote them about a flatso 2.0) but I'm going to get it a few more rounds in over the next few weeks and see though.

I have been closing to ordering a 36" as well, and just gripping down a touch.  I am happy with the 34" normal ZT I have, but I do no regret buying both and finding out

Looks like they just used a left hand double bend in a right handed putter.

I'm really hoping that the SuperStroke 1 degree off axis pistol grip is eventually sold outside of just being included on this putter. I've wanted to regrip my DF3 to a Superstroke for ages but didn't want to lose the "press" feature.

Stock is 6g, but they'll change them to achieve the balance so some may be different.

I picked up the 34". I've had a conventional grip my entire life but decided to try left hand low and BAM! It keeps my hands from rotating and keeps me using my shoulders instead of hands to make the stroke. Give it a try if you're getting too handsy with it!

TM chat support on the website told me yes, you just lose the 1* lean ofc.
