I got some bad news for WRXer's... I just spoke with Matthew from Taylormade Customer Service regarding this as I was hoping to order a Custom Spider ZT at 35" with a 71° lie angle.

 

Matthew informed me this was a typo and custom lie angles ARE NOT POSSIBLE with the Spider ZT and will not be offered on September 1st.

 

He asked me where I got my information and I quoted their website.  He also asked me to send the following screenshots since they do not see the website as we (the customer) see it:

They are having a big influence in the marketplace no doubt.  Not sure i'd say it's their tech, considering low and zero torque has been around in putters for decades by companies like Edel and Axis.  But they are certainly the reason for it's popularity and rise to fame.

Finally got my hands on one, and this feels like the nicest Spider I’ve ever touched. Maybe it’s been a while since I played a Spider X, but the craftsmanship and finishing seems so much better now. Can’t wait to roll it out on the course!

Has anyone tried changing the grip on this putter yet?  I have the CB and not a fan of the grip but scared to mess with the balance

First round in the books, and WOW is this a fantastic putter! Zero issues adjusting to the insert coming from a White Hot, and it truly felt automatic on short putts. Hit multiple putts over 10 feet, zero three putts, and only had 12 putts on the back. I’m sold!

Ended up selling my ZT CB. Just couldn’t get the distance control on longer putts, leaving everything way short or way too long. Everything within 6ft was automatic. Gone back to a milled mid mallet with a slant neck.

spider ZT has taken my putting to the next level. feel is great on the CB version, love the shaft and grip combo. good too because I don't feel like I need to actively forward press it even without the grip being a press grip

I just got my 36" CB and have only one round in. Similar to you, start line was automatic but struggled a bit with distance control. Mostly short. The insert feels soft to me. I'm coming from a milled Bettinardi which I had distance control dialed in.

 

Still more testing to do.

Does anybody know if the counterbalanced really has a heavier head or is it just heavier weights?

 

/€: spec sheet says 370 and 395 grams. But still not sure if it’s really a heavier head or just the weights.

Rick Shiels did a vid on the putter and stated that was his exact worry.  He said he would worry about coming up short on longer putts due to the soft feel off the face.

I just got the 36” CB off a fellow WRX’er. Here’s my initial feedback:

 

- Feel is amazing. Very soft and pure roll. Speed will be an adjustment as it’s a lot slower than a milled putter. Mainly will be tough on long lag putts. 
 

- I was hitting the line nearly every time. As I suspected, I wasn’t reading greens very well (aiming too far right) before this and was making up for it by pulling putts. Seeing it go end over end the whole way on the line is a new one for me.

 

- Towards the end, I was hitting 2/3 20 footer, which is not common for me.
 

Obviously in the honeymoon stage, but I really like it. Key will figuring out the speed on those long lag putts. It’s among the softest putters I’ve used.

Heads are a different weight.

 

Standard is 370g, CB is 395g and Long is 470G

 

Weights on my CB are 3x 6-gram weights.  18 grams of weight removed does not get it back to the 370 of the standard head.

I used one that was 2mm (1/16 in) and it seems to be the right size. From the top down look, you would think the putter came like that.

Still haven’t had this on course, in the middle of selling our house with a 6 month old… but spent 45 minutes on the practice green today and I’m all in. My Anser style 336g Goodwood is 10x more “fun” to putt with (if that makes any sense at all) but the roll this thing puts on the ball is undeniable. It felt like a sledgehammer compared to my comparatively light Goodwood but it only took a few putts to acclimate. I felt that it was extremely forgiving on long lag putt mis-hits while still providing plenty of feedback. If you read the putt correctly inside 10 feet, it’s idiot proof. Felt too spongey with some TP5s I had from Taylormade’s ball giveaway but TP5x and Prov1x which I actually game felt tremendous. It also looks right at home on green grass and very confidence inspiring. I can’t explain why this iteration of zero torque felt more comfortable than the Bettinardi SB2 I had and moved on from.

Are there 3rd party head covers out there for this yet? I don’t like the teal one it comes with.
