2025 Wedge Picks

What is everyone’s thoughts on this years new wedges? The Cleveland RTZ seems popular but seen Mizuno also released new forged wedges which is interesting. I play MG4’s in 50, 54, and 58 now and was not impressed with how quickly the additional “spin tread” on the face wore off on my 58 degree that I use often. Looking to replace it with something else. Most interested in RTZ at this point but also thinking about trying Sub 70 wedges as I’ve read good reviews. Also does anyone play the full face wedges on the higher lofts? Considering going that route.

I play the Sub70 286 in 54 and the JB FF in 58 and they're as good as anything else I've played. They just released the 287, which I would have bought, if it came in LH.

Might be worth checking out, if you're looking for something a little more forgiving with higher bounce options.

I was looking at the JB FF on their website actually. I live somewhat close to their shop and am going to try to make it over there this weekend. I will try some wedges while I’m there. I’m all in if they perform like big name brands for a a fraction of the cost.

Depending on what your needs are in a wedge, they have one to accommodate with 3 finish options

After 20+ years, decided to move away from Vokey's late last year. Never have found a Vokey that I really loved. For 2025, going with a 50 degree Mizuno T1 (flows nicely with new S-3s), then a 56 degree PXG SDIII and a 60 degree LW Bettinardi HLX 6.0 (replacing my worn out Ping Eye2 LW BeCu :classic_sad:)

I’ve hit Vokey a handful of times I wasn’t a fan either but lots of people seem to like them. Mizuno is definitely an intriguing option this year. The new S-3 irons are sweet.

Preference-predicated, but I've toyed with a bunch:

Opus is the biggest step up from a prior model (jaws), but is now "caught up" with Vokey.  It has a smaller face though which some may prefer (and some may not).  I preferred the regular over the platinum.

Taylor made remains exceptional and advocates will remain as such.

Vokey is still the wedge to beat I'd say, only downside is it's always been good so folks may just be looking elsewhere for the sake of novelty.  I game these.

Other than bearing the trusted name, I was not terribly impressed with Mizuno - at address it seems to carry more bounce than I'd like (tight lie player here that likes low bounce).

If I went Ping, I'd get my old Eye2 like Mickelson still does 🙂

Oh and I've tried the Indi wedge - the conforming wedge is the same to worse than any leading wedge - would not buy again.

I have Sub70 wedges and have been happy with them, especially for the price. You don't have the grind options of the big names, but that's not a big care for me. They're also forged.

The TAIII wedges fell great for my longer ones since they're mostly swinging over chipping. Spin is great and among the highest of the clubs I've swung. They use a softer steel which feels great. One of the instructors at the PGASS hit mine and really liked them.

The JB is the same steel and is versatile for both full swings and chips. Good feel and spin as well.

Don't sleep on Wilson ZF wedges. I've hit them. They feel good and spin quite a bit as well.

I believe a retail Vokey and even a raw Vokey ordered directly from the Vokey site, are so FAR different on what is played on tour. My SM8 56 degree Raw was in the bag for 3 years and has no real rusting from all that exposure. You see a tour WITB and they are so heavily rusted. I have been a Titleist loyalist for years, bought into the Vokey hype, but just could never love any Vokey 56 degree I owned over the last 25 years. I figured w/ my new S-3s, I can get rid of my Vokey 50 degree, purchased the Mizuno T1, as it will flow nicely with the irons. Still waiting on delivery as I went custom with the KBS Tour Lite S, to match my S-3s, since my 50 degree is used for pretty much full shots only. Waiting on the 60 degree Betti as shipping supposedly starts today. The 56 degree PXG, SDIII, I put in the bag, in October, is phenomenal. Not huge on the graphics, but feel and performance blows my previous Vokey away.

You may need to have a talk with your caddy, review with him how a golf towel works to clean up those consistent ball strike patterns.

After years of being a loyal Callaway wedge player, I recently made the switch from Callaway (Jaws) to the Vokey SM10's.  I honestly just wanted to see what all of the hype was about.  From my first few months with the Vokeys, I can say that the ball flight is a bit lower and the distances are more consistent.  I wouldn't say there's a ton of difference, but I'm enjoying the SM10's so far.

I’m going to try out the sub 70’s tomorrow. I’ve also heard good things about Wilson I will look into them as well. They are really improving their products.

In Vokey SM9s but testing an MG4 as a gap wedge.

MG4 feels clickier.  Grabs the ball more on chips and pitches than Vokey.

Both have basically zero offset and a straight leading edge, which is a requirement for a GW.  Opus is close in shape.  Can't really dig on anything else out there looks wise.

In 56* and lob, Vokey M is my fave grind.  Not exactly sure how the LB grind stacks up.

Might be a mixed set this year.

I had MG4's last year, won a gift card for Callaway and bought the Opus in Blue...love them

For me they lowered the flight a little and added a little spin.

For a GW, I grabbed a new old stock S23 cavity back Mizuno wedge and out a PX shaft in it.

I have no issue buying new clubs, but prefer prior model wedges on discount. Especially since I prefer raw wedges. Love the patina and I can fine tune grinds. Replacing the Zipcore with RTX6. Not a fan of the RTZ raw that do not rust.
