Looking at S159s, RTZ, T3, King Wedges, Opus, Miura (Not affordable, nor are the others really).

I have demoed the S159s and was quite impressed by feel/launch/spin/grind, etc.  Have not had the chance to demo the others.  I had a set of brand new 3 Miura Tour Grinds.  They were stolen.  Anybody have input on these, especially if you have hit each?  Looking for a 54/58 versatility, bunkers, around greens, full shots, half shots, etc.  I had Vokeys and then got more interested in the JP forged version.

Thanks.

Can I get some help on Opus grinds?  BTW, I have heard a few people say they sound clicky.  Has anyone found that?

S159 54 S/58 S, RTZ 54/Mid 58/Mid, T3 54 S/58 C, King 54v/58d, SM1O 54.12D/58.12D/58.08M.  OPus??  How about the grinds on the Miura Has?

Thanks so much!

I just sent 2 Opus wedges back to Callaway as I didn't care for the feel. In fact, I've never enjoyed the feel of Callaway wedges that I've owned or tried going back to the MD2. I always end up with Vokey or Clevelands. I can't help much with grind comparisons as I focus more on bounces in relation to what kind of shots I intend to use each wedge for.

Callaway wedges and I usually do not work.  Felt harsh and clicky.  The Opus for me felt good.  I first hit the Opus back in Aug24 and spent tons of time with demos until deciding to bag one in 54*.  Went platinum and I cannot feel any difference between that version and the regular version.  Vokey is my other preferred wedge as Ive used them forever and are very familiar to me.  Id be interested in trying a RTZ as Im struggling with the 58* slot in my bag at the moment.

To be fair, I haven't tried the platinum. The regular Opus just didn't wow me. Nothing wrong with them, I guess I've just played Vokeys for too long and don't know why I stray.

May launch a tad lower due to that weight on the top line of the platinum but Im not good enough to really notice much more than that.

Ive played Vokey forever and have had SM5 in the bag since they came out (Bought 3 sets lol - last set was running out of juice in 2024 so I started the process of trying new wedges for 25.  Its been a long journey as you can imagine.)  Settled on 54 S Opus and 60 T Grind.  Both bent to my lofts I play with. Started with 58 D Grind in SM10 but felt clunky.  Now Im on Opus W grind bent to reduce loft/bounce see how that goes.

But you didn't think they felt any different from the brushed chrome?

The Opus from Opus Platinum?  I mean, maybe a tick more solid thru the shot but I personally dont feel its dramatic.

Or were you meaning chrome in SM10 v Opus Platinum?

I meant Opus to Platinum. So much comes down to ball used also.

Yeah, I really didnt notice much other than what I said.  Maybe a tick more solid but it wasnt anything spectacular or anything.  I use a premium ball but was hitting the demos with range balls.

I do enjoy the feel out on the course hitting real balls into greens.  Maybe there is a place around you that has platinum for you to try.

Sadly indoors only. Wedges are one of those clubs i like to demo on grass because I think turf interaction is crucial. Most courses around me sell Vokey or Ping.

That sucks.  I agree - gotta get them on grass.  I posted pics of my Opus grass session on pg1 in this thread.

So Ive had my Opus W grind out a couple times in the practice area - and since getting the specs right (to play at 57/9 and 2 flat) its been much better for me.  Still havent actually played with it - too busy and too much rain here in SW Ohio. But around the practice green its been good.  Its very good thru the turf around the practice green, the thick stuff we see here.  I also really am getting along with the Modus 115 wedge shaft.  Really just works for me.  Looking forward to getting the club out to play so we can see how she performs.

They didn't make a 58* full grind in lefty for some weird reason.

Question for you (and others) - does having Callaway in the 53/57 and Vokey in the 61 affect your feel at all, particularly green side? I’m a bit finicky on grinds and am debating just mixing and matching brands to get exactly what I want, but worry the different feels would throw me off during a round.

Not super long term as I’ve only had them about 3 rounds but I’m loving them so far. Previously had T22’s and then SM9’s in 56 and 60. For T3 I have the 54S bent to 53 and the 58C grind to keep 5* gaps with my 925F 48* gap wedge. The feel and forgiveness are outstanding. 54 is quickly becoming my favorite wedge and the 58 has been awesome out of firm bunkers.

Great question and I think the answer is going to be player dependent.  Yes, for me, there is a feel difference between Opus and SM10.  Ive been an SM player for years so switching to Opus was not easy.  I started hitting them last August in fact (demo) and kept hitting them to see if it was something I could move to.  The Opus performance is there for sure.  I primarily use my 57 and 61 around the greens (I will use the 53 on longer pitches where I want to fly it low and spin it tons).  What I do and have done since last fall was hit the practice area at the local course and just hit real balls on all kinds of shots.  Im getting real comfortable with the setup now but do admit it took some time.

Thanks, good to know. I’ve got an MG4 and Hi Toe 4 but obviously same OEM so imagine they’ve done a lot to ensure feel consistency. I recall when I put one in before the other it was pretty jarring (had Vokeys at the time), though I never spent much time before adding the other TM wedge
