Wyndham Clark - we in or out?

The problem with sending Wyndham Clark to anger management class is that you'd probably wind up sending 95% of the tour, not to mention another 95% of the population that play this stupid game. 🤣

Go back to the Dustin Johnson situation.  For the sake of this argument, let's stipulate that he was doing coke.  If using coke is a behavior that needs to be corrected by the Tour, then the biggest cudgel they have is "hey world, he is doing this and is not allowed to compete until he cleans up his act."    But if all they are doing is saying "Hey DJ, look we're going to tell everyone you're taking a break for a little while so no one looks bad over your little coke thing", well, maybe he stops, or maybe he figures he skated, because other than a few tournaments, it really hasn't hit him that hard.  He won't lose sponsors over a leave of absence.  He could lose sponsors over cocaine use.

 

Telling people "Wyndham Clark destroyed these lockers, he is fined x amount of dollars and must do a, b and c in order to be returned to good standing" will have a much better impact on him not doing this than "psst, WC, look, just give us $400 and this will all go away."  

 

The CEO of Oakmont stated this morning that the golf course/USGA/PGAT are in discussions regarding this matter as we speak.

I think we agree on that. Too many ticket holders are acting like nimrods. But just like the NBA it should be handled by the event staff and not the players.

Sorry, but those aren’t mental disorders.  Those are personality problems and an inability to cope with stress because of said personality problems.  Sounds like he’s just been a horse’s rear quarters his whole life and it was getting out of control when he was put under stress.  I’m sure his Mom passing was devastating, but that happens to a lot of us.  That article isn’t talking about a diagnosed mental disorder.  It’s mostly making excuses for a hothead.

Ok, let's say it's not intentional. Then he needs suspension and mandatory therapy so that he stops "unintentionally" destroying property.

But doing at Oakmont?  During a U.S. Open with the world watching?  It’s so far beyond stupid, it’s hard to even fathom.  If I’m Monahan, I would have been on the phone immediately telling him to stay home for the next couple of months, and get some mental help.

I am 100% in agreement with you.  He slings his driver against a sponsorship sign and damages it at the PGA (his own sponsor by the way) and then he destroys lockers at one of the most historic clubs on the planet.  I totally understand getting frustrated but Clark should probably be getting a suspension.  If they suspend Wesley Bryan for appearing in a YouTube video with LIV players then Clark's actions should warrant some type of serious discipline from the PGA.
