Yup.  Golf is behind the curve on accountability.  NBA and nfl hit there players with some hefty fines and or suspensions for crap like this

Making $40 mil per year, fined $25k… That’s like the average guy being fined what (too lazy to do the math) $20 bucks.
Agree it’s suspensions that hurt the most. If I see Draymond soon I’ll ask him.

Hit him where it hurts! I say make him read his own putts for at least his next 3 tournaments.

I like the people making excuse for him being a d-bag and throwing child tantrums and destroying private property. Reflection of themselves. These are the people that fail up in life.

I get pointing out what Clark did was wrong, but I could say this is a projection.

Save the "I'm the most moral and purist person on the internet" for the site that calls itself the front page.   The high and mighty act gets old real fast.

It is incredible some that people defend pro golfers different than any other athletes.  Every other athelete deals with pre-and post game interviews.  They deal with the media members in the actual locker rooms interviewing them moments after tough losses.  They deal with fans screaming, tauning and booing them.

Clark is everything wrong with the pro golf player and fan/media relationship

Gee, I know one guy who was so welcoming to the media questioning that he had a reporter banned from interviewing him after rounds....

i like this line of thought.  It would never happen, but i would love to see them make him carry his own bag for the week.  He has to pay his caddie normal rates, but not allowed to use his services in any way.

The problem isn't that there are no fines for this stuff.  One thing is that an NFL player only ever "works" for the NFL when it comes to athletic ability.  A golfer can cash a cheque from a PGA Tour event, the USGA, R&A, PGA...  who imposes the discipline?

The bigger problem, though, is that they don't *publicize* the fines and suspensions.  An NBA player who tests positive for doing some drugs is listed as suspended for doing drugs.  Did DJ test positive for blow or did he really take a leave of absence?  If you are wanting to say this is stuff that guys should be held accountable for, then public shaming is part of it, and you have to say what and why.  Golf seems to think the old "keep it behind closed doors" is the best way, whereas others say you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs,

Like guy preaching how awful it is that these older men are with these young girls.
And you check his search history and it’s littered with “teen…”.

Does stuff like that happen??? 🙃

Oh sure... most of us can relate to damaging the property of others because we get mad.  Really?

Latest incident is between him and the USGA/Oakmont. They will handle it appropriately I'm sure... I have no issues with the guy, he is talented but a headcase. Maybe he just needs to take some time off get his head right and realize raging like this all the time is not productive. Find some peace WC!

Not a big fan of anonymous pictures and anonymous quotes from members. You want to get involved put you name behind it.

I’m not sure I follow.

im saying they aren’t holding them accountable for destroying property in an effective way.  Im less concerned how they doit, and more concerned they do it a way that leads better outcomes.

im not advocating for public or private.  Im advocating for whatever will effectively change the behavior

Maybe someone in the clubhouse remembers this from less than a month ago and felt a little more motivated to get that pic out.

At some point there have to be some consequences. Dude threw a golf club when the ball landed in a fairway bunker. Who knows what he does next?

For that matter I think Rory got off easy for tomahawking that club on Saturday, and Rahm dropping the super loud f-bomb was also very poor behavior.

No matter how frustrated you get you have to remember that there are a lot of other people out there trying to do their best to put on a great event.

Came here to say exactly this. If Wesley Bryan can get indefinitely suspended for playing in a YouTube event, there should be some level of suspension for intentional destruction of property.

Beyond that, brohan needs a new therapist STAT.

That's an, um, interesting take. All about supporting his mental health, but that doesn't mean he should be allowed to intentionally damage property. Maybe a suspension would be the kick in the a** he needs to get some real help.

Perhaps if he’s dealing w/mental illness it’s not necessarily “intentional”. Can we prove for certain Wyndham knows the difference between right & wrong???

A lot we don’t know here. So I’ll reserve judgement 😇

But how you do it is part of what leads to a better outcome.  If you are going to hold out that these are public figures, "role models" whose behavior should be if not beyond reproach, at least "positive" in people's eyes, then punishments need to be public as well.  Someone who is remorseful will work to correct behavior.  Someone who isn't, will look at people not knowing what they did as "I got away with it."  Sure, they might have paid a fine, but unless it's a significant chunk of their net worth, it's almost a cost of doing business.

Go back to the Dustin Johnson situation.  For the sake of this argument, let's stipulate that he was doing coke.  If using coke is a behavior that needs to be corrected by the Tour, then the biggest cudgel they have is "hey world, he is doing this and is not allowed to compete until he cleans up his act."    But if all they are doing is saying "Hey DJ, look we're going to tell everyone you're taking a break for a little while so no one looks bad over your little coke thing", well, maybe he stops, or maybe he figures he skated, because other than a few tournaments, it really hasn't hit him that hard.  He won't lose sponsors over a leave of absence.  He could lose sponsors over cocaine use.

Telling people "Wyndham Clark destroyed these lockers, he is fined x amount of dollars and must do a, b and c in order to be returned to good standing" will have a much better impact on him not doing this than "psst, WC, look, just give us $400 and this will all go away."

A thrown golf club can hurt a fan too. These guys need to cool their jets.

So do the idiots in the crowd who seem to think they are wearing immunity shields.  Sadly the extra $50 from that customer seems to be more important than anything else in most cases.  But it never happens at Augusta National..... hmmmm.

Now I understand.  Yes I would be in favor of more accountability.  Lots of ways to do it
