Micah Morris is a +4

Recommended Posts

I didn't want to do this but I really hate it when people say something like they know it is true, when in actuality, it's false. For those that I was arguing with about this in the other thread, Micah is certainly a +4. Watch the videos for proof and accept responsibility for being jealous that a youtube can somehow be better than a prized Golfwrx forum poster. This is mostly directed at @PedronNiall @Pnwpingi210@Evolved but if there are other doubters, see the information below. You were all so certain that he doesn't play tournaments or post good scores under pressure. Wrong.... Also, Grant Horvat is better than Micah and Garrett Clark is worse than both, but like I said, they have all played each other by the rules of golf and all can beat each other on any given day.

https://course.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/course/course/fountainccwest/detailedscorecard.htm

the course he played in this video is called Fountains Country Club in Florida and is a par 71 and 6800 yards with a course rating of 73.2. He shot -1 in a TOURNAMENT and on video. Do the math. It’s going to be around a +4 if you enter that into the GHIN. He also plays harder courses than this one and shoots under par.

Albocoa Country Club, Par 71, 7200 yards. He shot 67. Course Rating of 75.

He literally posts tournaments on film and you guys are over here whining about his YouTube game.

The denial is real. This guy would wipe the floor with all of you denying him being a +4.

Not going to get into this whole argument but an isolated round or two does not mean your handicap index would be that differential.

Also, your example given shooting a 70 with a rating of 73.2 would be +2.9 with a slope of 125.  If the slope is higher the handicap would be “worse”. 130 slope would make that round +2.8

I'm aware of that, thanks. These are just a couple examples I have posted. The second round I posted was better.

And that’s great. But I’ve had rounds of +4 to +5 differentials but my lowest cap is +0.5.

It’s also why handicaps can be deceiving and one off examples are illusions.

I mean, I agree with that. That isn't the case here. He shoots under all the time on tough courses. This thread is in response to the people in here that say he can't play well in real tournament golf. I barely even looked back into his youtube history and instantly found 2 examples proving them wrong.

73 and 74 aren't really bad depending on the course. Not up to his potential, but not terrible either. Depends on the course he was playing obviously.

It is if you're trying to be a pro, like he says he is, and getting smoked by 20 shots by guys who decided the can tour wasn't for them a decade ago.

He's not going to be a pro. Ever. He will get smacked and would get smacked. +4's are not pros. Not even remotely close. And his mental game is no where close as well. That was never my point of this to say he is close to pro level.

DFL in the PGAT Canada event he played in - 82, 75. Maybe all the pros that beat him were +4 and better, could be, and everyone has bad days.

The discussion in whatever thread this was in not getting enough "wangin" that Morris needs some "declaration"?  Does he have a USGA handicap? Link? If not, seems kind of pointless to try and start an argument about it.

I don't know anything about him and he can claim whatever handicap he wants - maybe (actually maybe not?) he'll be happy to know he has such passionate fans.

I'd say post up the index and let it speak for itself.

I posted his cousin's (GM Golf) index, who is another big youtuber that has a good golf game, in another thread and his was at +4.3 and Micah is around that level as they both beat each other all the time. And that got dismissed as well and everyone just accuses them of cheating.

So wait, you’re claiming an index for a guy that doesn’t even carry a index?  And you’re doing that based on some other guys’ index that he plays with regularly and seems to be at the same level?  And you started a thread calling other people out by name based on that information?  Hmmmm…

Yea, I'm not claiming the index to be exact necessarily. But I'm saying he's around that level of index and it probably fluctuates a bit like all of ours. He did have an index about a year ago and it was around a plus 4 but it expired and he must have not renewed it. I called the people out that said he can't post good scores in tournament golf and the videos I posted show he did.

If a guy is consistently playing to the level or better of an opponent with an official index of +4, then yea, I would think the opponent is also a plus 4 as well.

Unless of course the other guy’s index is suspect as well…

And that word ‘consistently’…that’s where science would ask for data, rather than anecdote.

By the way, I couldn’t care less what any of these guys’ indexes are, really.  Who cares.  I did comment that I don’t think Fat Perez is really a +.3 based on the swing I saw on Wednesday, but I admit that I just don’t know.

BTW, if this guy is really that good and is playing in tournaments, why isn’t he carrying an index?  That alone would call into question any claims about his ability.  He’s a serious, tournament golfer and he doesn’t carry a GHIN index?

The thing with Micahs game, is he is so sporadic. I just couldn’t believe at the times I watched where he would hit driver like 4-5 times all round…. Even on par 5s he would pull a driving iron. Its because he would spray the ball everywhere. Every now and then he catch the lightning in a bottle, and he is certainly long enough to score well. Last time i remember was when he put the brnr mini in the bag and seemed to have some confidence with it. Id imagine his cap is plus, dunno about +4, but his average score is POOR.

That's fat perez handicap. I agree with it. He's a shorter hitting guy but good with the wedge, but he has had some terrible rounds as well.

I know that’s his handicap, but I was questioning whether it’s real.  I know plenty of guys who have numbers in the GHIN system that aren’t remotely near what their actual index should be.

I thought the discussion originally was about if Micah was good enough to play on the pga tour, I could be wrong. I'm sure his handicap hovers around scratch and a few under but that is extremely common with good golfers especially in the south. Getting on tour is a whole different ball game.

These guys who all started on good good golf channel have got better now because they play golf for a living on youtube and got access to all these great resources to improve their games. I watched the Grant/Phil match and I can't remember how many strokes he got from Phil, like 8 or something. You can't be asking for 8 strokes from a pro way passed his prime if you want to play on tour.

I do enjoy their content and think they are great golfers but they aren't pga tour pros.

And he’s only claiming to a scratch at 0.0.

its a long ways to +4

I guess my question to the OP is... Why does it matter to you if Micah himself isn't even maintaining an active GHIN handicap? He's not good enough to make it anywhere near the tour players, even at the Korn Ferry level or any of the other lower professional leagues, but he is good enough to make entertaining Youtube videos. If Micah doesn't care about his handicap, why do you care about defending his (imagined) handicap to GolfWRXers?
