Micah Morris is a +4

Recommended Posts

And to be clear, I watch most of Micah's videos, so unlike a lot of other WRXers, I am pretty pro-Youtube golf as entertainment. But we shouldn't be trying to convince ourselves that there's more than a couple of players on Youtube who could reasonably compare to pro level golf.

Micah Morris seems like a good guy.  He hits the ball a mile but for some reason never hits driver.  He was better in Good Good because he doesn’t have the personality to carry a YouTube channel, he has more supporting role personality.  He can clearly play but has the mental game of weekend hacker.  He can go low, but once he hits a bad shot or 2 his mental goes out the window.  I wish the guy luck, but he is a mini-tour talent right now.

This is a great point. He’s kinda like Black Widow. Great for the team-up but can’t carry a movie on his own.

both Micah and Grant are great golfers for sure, threat to go low from the tips on a lot of courses around the country...but to me they're "for fun" golfers and probably shoot great scores when playing with friendly and familiar faces...the serious tournament golfers are Luke and the Bryan Bros but in reality they're pros making YouTube content...a +4 handicap is nowhere near a tour pro, it's at best a struggling Mackenzie tour player

I have to agree on all counts.

I have played the Fountains and Abacoa and they are fair tests of golf, but not overly tough (like the Medalist). The tournament at the Fountains was a local mini tour event that almost anyone with an entry fee can play. He showed up and shot a respectable number and actually kept focused for an entire round. That in itself is an accomplishment, but it was like a guy trying to pass his PAT with all the irons he hit. He has a long way to go to even be mini tour competitive, but hey he filmed every shot and was accountable for his game.

As far as Micah's handicap goes, I would have thought he is easily a +2. If he could ever get the driver working, he could be even better.  At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter to me as I know he is on the plus side of scratch even with a 2 iron.

Let’s forget this guy’s handicap for a minute.  What is it about him or about what he does that makes people want to watch him play golf on YouTube?  Is he a funny guy?  Is he insightful/smart about the game?

Because just about every golf club on the planet has at least a few guys of that skill level or better and nobody really cares to watch video of them playing.

EDIT:  Check that, just checked out his YT stuff.  I get it.  He’s targeting the 20-40 bro demographic.  Swing isn’t a thing of beauty IMO, but looks like he can hit it a ton.  More power to him making money at this stuff though.

I just cannot figure out why this is something to care about. Morris is a good player, not a great player. HE should be the one saying what his handicap is.

Maybe "he" is.

YouTube golf, just like any other social media, is a "Fun House Mirror" distortion of reality.

The tournament scores speak for themselves, and they don't match with the nonsensical, emotional assertions of the OP.

And with that...

Strong feelings for a YouTube golfer.

Gotta be a relative or his manager.

Could we move this from the Tour thread? Don't need a new topic every time a YouTube influencer (aggressively not Tour related) does something uninteresting or someone feels compelled to defend their honour (not discounting that the OP could actually BE Micah lol, which would be even more lame)

I don’t know the kid. But I tell you how to decide what they believe he is.  Ask them how many shots he has to give them while playing for $1k.   People tend to reverse course quick on their opinions if they have skin in the game.   They probably claim he’s +6 then 🤣

Oldest play in the book.

Bad rounds turn into "practice rounds" and don't get posted or the video gets abandoned.

Constantly shoot in the 80s in tournaments saying "this never happens!"

His handicap could be around there.

No doubt he’s a good golfer; however, if someone wants to make money playing golf, good isn’t good enough. Unless they can go to most courses and shoot mid 60’s blind (under normal conditions) for a great deal of their rounds, they have no business playing tour level golf.

I do enjoy his content though from time to time. Seems like a decent enough guy.

Agreed.

The Bryan Bros are capable of tour calibre golf, but let’s be real. George would struggle to keep his card, and Wesley has had a few substandard years on tour. They’re phenomenal golfers, capable of some great golf, but they’re not going to be top tier players. Journeyman at best.

Luke Kwon and Brad Dalke have also been tour calibre at a point in time; however, I don’t think their games would measure up at this point in time. Tour level golf is not easy…

Still going to press 'X' to doubt he's a +4. Much improved from last year, but not seeing it.

Still nothing under par when the pressure's on and official rounds are being recorded. All a gas since it's some rando's claim on the net and not Morris posting his actual cap anywhere, but for grins it doesn't hurt to discuss.
