Micah Morris is a +4

Still going to press 'X' to doubt he's a +4. Much improved from last year, but not seeing it.

Still nothing under par when the pressure's on and official rounds are being recorded. All a gas since it's some rando's claim on the net and not Morris posting his actual cap anywhere, but for grins it doesn't hurt to discuss.

Brings to mind a line from the OG Top Gun that I've quoted many times down the years, sometimes even to myself.

"Son, your ego is writing checks your body can't cash."

If you're not lapping that field, you have no business trying to make your living playing golf. He's clearly hit his ceiling as a player, and the only shame in that is continuing to pretend otherwise.

Yep. We'll see what happens, but understandable he's still out there grinding. He's built his career around it and the hype machine still pays him well for believing he can do it so hard to walk away from that. He also gotten some relevant insights from TPI that have improved his level of play enough that he's getting closer to his actual ceiling than he ever has in the past. Resource-wise he's better off than guys like Gainey or that Navy Lt. who have broken through even older, so it's not an impossibility.

I'd hope he's being smart with his money or has a plan to shift when there's no audience to watch him chase any Tour-level stuff any longer. The other creators who are out there with him don't have channels so dedicated to the idea of playing golf at the highest levels. Also have to wonder what would happen if he did break through. AFAIK he doesn't have any serious mini tour experience, as reflected in some of the breakdowns he's had, and suddenly doing anything of note against the top 250 is going to take something he's never built the systems for based on prior play.

People tune in to watch Nathan Franks, Joe Hooks, Tyler Watts and Eddie Slices?

True enough, but when I say he's hit his ceiling as a player (and he already has) I'm not talking about insights from TPI or getting fit for another set of clubs he calls "game changers" that in fact are not. I'm talking about his head space, which is clearly where it all goes wrong for him over and over again. The insecurity and doubt that come with trying to keep up the ever-crumbling facade is just too much to overcome while trying to play good golf under stress.

If he really wants to give himself the best chance to chase his playing ambitions, he'll turn the cameras off...fat chance of that.

Watts is a phenom that IIRC is only a high school Senior; if you look earlier in the thread you can see he almost made it last year as well. Hooks is an aspiring Tour player who's competed on one of the feeder tours and seems solid. Franks just finished up collegiate golf, though he's in Zalatoris territory with his impact position so no telling if or when it catches up to him.

Yeah, his head will 100% be the make or break and there's no sure path to fixing it for players who don't have what it takes to stay the course in the big moments. I agree, there's no way constantly playing to the cameras and managing things for his channel full time is going to help on that front.

They should just incorporate this mickey mouse qualifier with the PGA Tour Monday qualifiers.

  • It will give it legitimacy to show whether these guys are good enough
  • More exposure for the Monday qualifiers where hard working pros deserve more coverage
  • They can group these social media golfers together and cover the play
  • If a social media golfer can qualify, then it is well deserved.
