GT2 versus G440 LST Driver Reviews?

JMB3

the g440 lst with the right shaft could rival anything out right now with regards to spin reduction but overall forgiveness. if you can get past the looks; it's deep.

i've considered picking one up to go against my qi35 core with ventus TR black. it's a long season i'm sure i will just bc.

That all makes sense, depending on which launch monitor your using the peak height from the launch angle and speed can vary but the separation between values is pretty consistent.

Considering my numbers, do you think the G440 LST with the same shaft as GT2 could be faster/longer?

That will be my next test, Qi35 Core 9* with Ventus Velocore Plus Black 6 stiff against the G440 LST. I'm going to order a Velocore Plus Black or TR Black for the PING so I can get an apples to apples comparison. I'll report back with Qi35 numbers Wednesday.

Following this thread. I gamed a GT3 last year and recently obtained a GT2 head and played it the last couple of rounds and love it. Curiosity got the better of me and got a G440 lst.  I didn't get a long with it well with the stock tensei black shaft. I currenlty have a ventus black + on my GT2 and going to throw in a GD VF in the G440 LST, will report back after some testing.

GD VF 6x has been a game changer for me with the G440.  I tested the Diamana WB63TX and the head felt too heavy and didn't like the huge kick from the shaft, also didn't get along with the Ventus 6X Black.  I am currently testing a GD VR 7x.  Initial results are a much more towering ball flight, seems a little harder to time the load but good shots are really good.  Still need a few more days with it.  I also have a Velocore+ Blue 6x on the way to test in it but this head is remarkable to me, and I have always been a Callaway player.

Looks like the LST is more geared towards someone who fades the ball, like myself. I'm looking for a new driver and was looking at the G430 Max, but this one may suit my swing better. I'm a 15 HC and am inconsistent with the driver, primarily because I cannot figure out how to hit up on the ball. Should I consider looking at the LST over the Max? Always thought the LST was for a more accomplished player.

I am a poor driver player generally.  Always struggled with it and usually have a two way miss.  You are correct that this club definitely seems more fade biased as I haven't missed one left with it yet.  However what's been great about it to me are the shots that I hit that I immediately feel like its going to sail out of bounds seem to stay fairly straight.  The other thing for me was, my efficiency numbers are way up.  I would be over a 1.4 maybe 1 shot out of 5 with the Elyte, and at best would see a 1.43.  The ping has me probably 4/5 with a 1.43 or higher and most of them around a 1.48.  The only negative is that I am battling getting the spin down some as poor shots do seem to spin up quite a bit.

Nice, thanks for the reply! I really want to make this head work for the forgiveness it provides.

Just finished up testing the GT2 against 440 LST and I was somewhat surprised by the results.

For reference, I've been playing the GT2 on and off since it's release so I'm quite comfortable with it at this point. Driver was fit by Titleist on an outdoor range using Pro V1's and Trackman. The result of the fitting was a GT2 9* head set at A2 with a Ventus TR Black 6-stiff playing at 45.25" and D4 swing weight. The 440 LST was an impulse buy off the BST last week and is completely stock at 9* with a Tensei Black 65 stiff at 45.5" and D6 swing weight.

After I warmed up for a bit this morning I put these two (along with my GT3) up against one another. The ball I used was a brand new out of the sleeve '23 Pro V1. I hit five balls with each driver and here are the average results:

GT2 9* TR Black 6-stiff:

carry distance-288.7

total distance-312.2

club speed-108.5

ball speed-161.5

smash-1.49

spin-2262

height-112'2"

G440 LST Tensei Black 65 stiff:

carry distance-283.7

total distance-309.4

club speed-109.5

ball speed-161.6

smash-1.48

spin-2286

height-99'

I really feel like with a TR Black 6-stiff at 45.25" and D4 swing weight the 440 LST my tighten the gap or even squeak ahead of the GT2. I was a little surprised my club head speed was 1 mph faster with the 440 at D6 sw.

Interesting for sure. Thanks for that. I’m interested in the LST. I’ve seen that myself in the past. I tend to play some lead tape on a driver to feel .  And I almost always pickup speed after the lead tape addition.  Sounds like the LST might not need any lead.

I have found the G440 LST with a Ping Tour 60 Regular shaft (old version) spin a lot more than my 430 10K w/ Red Smoke RDX 60 6.0. Tried the Red Smoke in the 440LST but too heavy and so was the stock Tensei Black (may cut it 1/4 to 1/2 inch though). Getting more distance with the 10k but the 440LST looks much better.

Its definitely a little spinnier for me but the forgiveness has more than exceeded expectations.  So far I have found the best spin numbers with the AD VF.

That is the Efficiency map, that measures raw ball speed, and because drivers have less loft low down they increase ball speed. The one i posted is the Distance factor map , which was also shown in the video right after this one.

As Jay says during it the EFF is nice to see to show how large ball speed retention is on newer drivers, but if thier spin and launch profiles are wrong, more ball speed != more distance. That's why we produce the Distance factor map as the real guide to driver distance consistency.

Can you post a Distance factor map for a TSR2?  i think that my TSR2 is a bit more consistent than my GT2.

Interesting discussion.

I'm in the midst of a driver fitting and narrowing it down between the GT2 and 440 LST. I hit the GT2 the most in the first session, it was giving me great numbers with the VF 6X. I didn't hit the 440 LST in the VF so I'll update with my results this weekend once I do. I hit both with the Velocore Blue+ 6X and the numbers were almost identical - spin, launch, ball speed. Spin & peak height was a bit high with the Velo Blue than the VF so I don't think it's the right shaft for me.

I've been a Ping guy coming from the G400 MAX - the GT2 head feels extremely light (7g lighter than GT2 head) so I'm sure the swing weight is playing much lower on it. To nitpick about looks, I'm not a fan of the GT2 "GT" alignment in the centre, and the gloss look, but it is a clean, classic looking driver. I have more confidence over the turbulators and matte look of the Ping (I know many don't like the turbulators) but I'm so used to them helping with aim on tee shots it feels weird without.

anyone have any insight on the 440 LST vs QI35 LS. The QI35 beat out the GT3 for me but really interested in the G440 LST

I have both.  Bought the 440 while on a golf trip and it was lights out for fairways hit.  Just tried a 35LS in the sim and it was better for me but I'm an outdoor guy so can try them both in the next week when they open up.  35LS launched 1-2 degrees higher and spun less.  Ball speed also up slightly.  Same shaft.

That is good to know. I typically need launch with less spin so the QI 35 might be a better option

Lower/greater/better ha. It seems to be a bit faster with lower spin and better dispersion.

I think it may have to do my primary miss being right but me being higher spin. Always going towards the “LS” models probably didn’t help my right miss. I feel the shape and weighting of the GT2 being more of the forgiving, less fade bias head, square up a bit better for me. Almost curious if something like the Qi35 core with heavy weight up front might do the same thing.

Here are a couple swings from a SIM round today with the GT2 and a 5 shot comparison.

Fastest ball speed was with the GT2 but also the deviation in spin is tighter. What I fight is that high spin by block. GT2 seems to keep that under control.
