GT2 versus G440 LST Driver Reviews?

Lower/greater/better ha. It seems to be a bit faster with lower spin and better dispersion.

I think it may have to do my primary miss being right but me being higher spin. Always going towards the “LS” models probably didn’t help my right miss. I feel the shape and weighting of the GT2 being more of the forgiving, less fade bias head, square up a bit better for me. Almost curious if something like the Qi35 core with heavy weight up front might do the same thing.

Here are a couple swings from a SIM round today with the GT2 and a 5 shot comparison.

Fastest ball speed was with the GT2 but also the deviation in spin is tighter. What I fight is that high spin by block. GT2 seems to keep that under control.

Great info, thanks!

Very interesting comments re LS drivers and being a High Spin player. The consistency/dispertion plus ball speed of the GT2 seems hard to go past.

GT2 weighs in at 195g, the Ping is 205g. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that all that extra weight is going to help forgiveness. But i've never had any luck building a driver with so much headweight. D6 is too heavy and I don't swing counterbalanced shafts well.

For those that don't mind the weight, I'd love to see how a GT2 performs with an extra 10g in the back.  Call it the GT2 10K. You're welcome Titleist.

I also came from the Ai Smoke TDM into the GT2 and for me its no looking back. The GT2 is more forgiving and longer, pretty sure I hit some spots on a few holes I've never been before. I played it Friday-Sunday with the middle day being my worst, swing got tired and lazy but I was still impressed with the GT2. I do think the fitting into it with a Ventus Blue helped a lot over the stock set up in the TDM. That shaft and head combo in the GT2 has been great.

Just get a weight kit. I am still tinkering but I have +2g in the LST (shortened .75 inches so its like D3) and the GT2 +6g. My assessment is that the GT2 is slightly faster and lower spinning but more variance in spin, and the LST is still more stable with less gear effect. Ive only had the LST for 3 weeks now though.

Curious, wouldn’t going heavier in the weight with the GT2 make it more forgiving but higher spin and less ball speed?

Higher spin yes, slightly, but ball speed would depend how your body responds to the weight. In theory, it could lower ballspeed by swinging slower and moving the CG backwards, but some people swing the same or faster with a heavier head and could potentially see a better smash factors with more weight in the head. My assessment was GT2 vs LST not pre weight vs post weight, if you were referring to that.

If you take all that weight out of the Ping drivers then what's the point playing them?

The only reason to play Ping is forgiveness. Less weight = less forgiveness.

At the same headweight I would play every single other driver on the market over a Ping. All of them.

But, as you've done, if I wanted to play a shorter driver then maybe all that extra headweight might come in handy.

They aren't even in the sound/feel and ball speed conversation.

To be fair, the G440 LST sounds very nice this year. Miles better than G430 and G425(🤮)

Have only hit the 440 Max. Felt a bit dead but sounds 100000x better than the 425.

Haha yea. One hit with the G425 and I was done. That thing sounds disgusting.
Do give the 440 LST a try though, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it feels (for a ping)

The spin consistency is also craaazy on that head.

I really do not think an extra 5-8g of headweight is the sole difference between a ping driver and other drivers. Slapping some lead tape on the back of a GT3 does not get you a Ping g440.

Yeah, it kinda is, especially when the entirety of that weight is in a tungsten block screwed onto the rear of the club giving it a huge MOI boost. Apart from heavy weights Ping don't have much unique going on unless you believe in marketing jargon like "spinsistency".

As someone who owns and has trialed -8g to +4g ping back weights and also owns and trialed +2 to +12g GT2 and TSR3 weights I can confirm that this is patently false.

I did some on course testing today . GT2 with Ventus black velocore + 6x, g440 lst with Ventus black TR 5x. G440 was winning today. Distance similar but dispersion goes to ping. When I tested on my mevo plus ball speeds and distance goes to GT2 but not by much. I’m gonna keep testing but leaning towards the ping.

I mean Ping's LST continues to be the most played driver by free agents on the PGAT or those without driver brand deals. That says something about their performance. It's extremely forgiving for a low spin head which they probably love.

I had similar results as you using the Graphite Design VF 6X shaft. Dispersion is better and more trustworthy for me with the G440 LST - consistent fades almost every time. I hit back to back shots within a yard of each other distance & dispersion wise. I don't double cross the LST nearly as much as the GT2. I tend to turn over the GT2 head more, perhaps that's the 7g lighter head (although I increased swingweight to be in line with Ping for some shots). Or simply the GT2 not being as fade biased as the LST.

Not to sway away from the GT2 but I've narrowed it down between the Ping G440 LST and the PXG Black Ops Tour. I was actually getting 3-4 more mph ball speed with the Black Ops, dispersion was similar, and spin was lower by 300rpm. But this was with an indoor Trackman used for the PXG vs. a GC Quad indoors for the Ping. I'm going to try and hit them with the same tech to confirm my numbers. But as a natural fader of the ball, I felt much more confident with Ping & PXG over Titleist.

In my brief comparison on an unreliable simulator, my GT2 outshined the heavier demo LST on everything other than dispersion.  I had two bad left misses when turning over the GT2.  I would love to get a more apples to apples comparison on TrackMan, as I loathe the left miss.

Fitting tomorrow.

GT2 and 440 are literally the only heads i'm hitting.

Currently gaming a GT2 but at a minimum changing shaft.

GT2 was traded in along with with my AI smoke max TD

Im a heavy head and swing weight guy which is perhaps why I’m loving the 440lst

- feel and sound

- no hook miss

- like the flattening and adding loft option

putting 440 tip adapters on ventus black tr 5x and a Diamana zf60x and a Fubuki tour 73x … and some others might really ramp it up with the 440lst performance

I’ve been a “go back to default 400lst user forever”

Both awesome drivers.  This year’s driver pool is bad Word not allowed

lst feels more stable and a touch lower launch for me.

gt2 higher launch and a bit more top end speed.   Also more draw bias.

I gave the GT2 a solid try but I hit it the worst of any driver I tried.  Which sucks because I really like how clean it is on top.

I hit the 440 Max the best of anything which is odd because I’m not a fan of the look the turbulators provide at address.

Moved into GT2 10* head at C1, cut down 0.5”, and it really cleaned up my path and strikes, making left less of an issue.  It would be hard to dethrone GT2 right now, but that heavy, adjustable weight in the LST still intrigues me.  Need to get them head to head soon.

That's a fair post and point . I've considered playing non ping drivers at ping head weights to increase forgiveness. I'm in a TSR2 with a hot melted headplay just in 45 " currently it's been one of my favorite drivers .

I have both of these drivers.  They are both fantastic and I still struggle to pick a winner.
In my testing, I’ve dropped the read LST weight down to 21g which makes the deadweight similar to my GT2.
The GT2 I find is much more sensitive to the shafts I put in it, meaning if I put the wrong one in, it can be fore left.  With the right shaft, I find it actually a bit easier to launch than my LST.  The LST gobbles up toe side misses and asks for more….this being my bad miss makes it a great option for my bag.  It may not be quite as long as the GT2 (talking a few yards tbh) but the forgiveness (even with similar head weight) is hard to ignore.  As for feels, the 440 LST has a mutted, soft feel compared to the GT2 which is a bit tingier if I may.  TBH, although they are quite different in the sound feel, I really enjoy both of them and struggle to say I prefer one vs the other.  Overall, I think they are both phenomenal drivers.

I just made the switch from G440 LST to GT2.

My miss is toe and the GT2 keeps that in play and long. With the Ping it would go much farther right. Speeds are about the same, same shaft, etc but the switch has turned my tee game around.

Currently play GT3 but took our clubs demo G440 Max out today. Wow, it was golf on easy mode for sure. Far too much spin for max distance but still averaged ~ 300, with 315-325 on my best drives and 280-290 on my spinnier drives or fades. I am immediately going to find an LST to demo for a bit. No doubt GT3 is longer on average and probably 20-30 yards longer on the best drives but this G440 max was truly point and shoot.
