BGT Paradox

A new challenger enters the ring!!

I am intrigued by how this will stack up against LAB and other zero-torques.  They are claiming to have a totally different take (not zero torque).  I’m going to order a mallet, which should ship in mid-April, and will write up a review asap.

yes, I will see what my Revealer has to say about this thing.

I very much like BGT shafts - I have them on several of my putters and all of my Vokey wedges.  They make a solid product.  Only TPT makes a superior putter shaft imo.  I would be shocked if this was anything less than wonderful.

Aesthetically, I don’t give two 💩💩about how a putter looks as long as I feel it performs and suits me.  This looks like an Axis1 mini-mallet, but center shafted and without the hosel…..thing….  I’m fine with the way it looks.

I really dig the uniqueness of the face, which becomes progressively taller towards the toe.  Per the email, the weighting is higher towards the toe as well - they claim this will help the putter to fight to stay square to the swing path.  I am super interested how the feel

contrasts against LAB.

At a minimum, I welcome a terrific company in BGT bringing what appears to be a new take on things.  If I am wrong and 26 other companies did this previously, I apologize for my ignorance on putter patent/tech history.

Looking forward to a review.  Honestly there are worse looking flat sticks...much worse.  The thing that's messing with me is how far shifted the alignment dots are from where typical center would be.  I'm sure I could adapt but it is strange looking in the photos.  I think I'd rather have no top line aid.

Paradox-mallet-top.jpg.3ebd37fe916d21c3010cd9be5fe870c1.jpg

I think they just look like that in the picture and will probably align in the center when it's sitting at address because it will be angled towards your eyes.

I put a pre-order in now that’s it’s live. I’d rather avoid the lead time on LAB right now and wouldn’t hurt to try something new.

Anyone else going to order one?

I pulled the trigger for a mallet. I have used the same putter for 8 years - I’ve been waiting to try something different, but wanted it to actually be different instead of esthetically different with the same technology, toe hang, etc. Will see how the Paradox works out.

There’s a lot of putters over the years that are taller in the toe and toe weighted.  Laguna/Zing are the most known ones but not the only ones

Odyssey has done a few high toe shapes over the years. I still think the 9HT they made for Ryo is one of the best looking putter heads out there.

Did you get a shipping notification? When I ordered, I was told it would ship on the 15th, but now the website says shipping May 1. I haven’t received a shipping notification yet

nothing yet. Blade or mallet? Which shaft? Seems like all of them are stating on 5/1 now, regardless of build.

Yeah, bumped back to May 1.  They updated their website with additional photos at least.  Really unique looking putter, and I’m glad they made it look somewhat normal from address.

got fit today at their HQ and walked out with the mallet.   of course my club punched greens today.   excited to get it out on the greens

Did you go for standard graphite or tour? Anything you can compare it to from the feel during the fitting process?

i got the tour,  fitting really consisted of using both putters and going through the TOURPUTT 36 putt deal.   Man that TOURPUTT system is awesome.   I was at 67% with the mallet and the blade.   Choose the mallet as I liked the look better and had better aim for my eyes

Just received the Paradox fang.

This is a super-unique putter!!!

My first impressions - everything appears and feels high quality and I like the way it looks, especially the shaft (upgraded Paradox Tour) and the face.  When setting up, the toe really does sit substantially higher than the heel at address - the top line is angled literally more towards you than more perpendicular.   The headcover is nice enough that I don’t feel the need to change it (magnets).  I like the stock no-taper rubbery grip - no forward press built in.  Nice color scheme (mostly black with some grey and red accents).

I tried placing the putter in my Revealer - this particular shaft is too thick to rest nicely in the felt of the Revealer so unfortunately I couldn’t truly test it there.  I tried making some putting motions with it sitting off of the felt - it did not appear to want to twist open or shut at all throughout the stroke, just like the LABs - take this with a grain of salt please!

Now, putting.  I tested it in my Iron Archie - it does appear to have really nice forgiveness throughout the face on mis-hits.  Subjectively, it feels and sounds WONDERFUL.  The strike is soft but solid - really pleasant.  The sound is muted but exactly how you’d want a putter to sound - a very soft click.

Some of you probably know me as a LAB homer - this remains true.  But this is one of the very few non-LAB putters that I am going to consider playing in my rotation going forward.  It is a worthy addition to my (and potentially your) collection.  Next actual round of golf, I will update my impressions.  I will try to play either tomorrow 5/10 or 5/11.

Excellent job by BGT on this one.  Glad it doesn’t look exactly like a DF3 like that lazy Odyssey.  Absolutely consider this if you are in the market for a new, technologically-unique putter.  Appreciate them for doing something that appears drastically different than anything else I am aware of.

Thanks for the review manVSgolf. I haven’t had a “zero torque” type putter before. I’ve tried out the Bettinardi antidote and LABs in the store but couldn’t get myself to pull the trigger for one reason or another.

I received my Paradox mallet on Friday and have been rolling it on my practice mat over the weekend and will echo what has been said about the sound/feel - very good. No high pitch sound or anything like that. Just an all around good sound. Not as soft feeling as the antidote (for comparison) but not super hard feeling either.

The grip - I normally use a garsen ultimate and the stock grip is close enough that I am not immediately swapping out. Not sure who makes it but it feels nice and is a good size.

Looks - for a non traditional type putter, I found it very easy to look at. The toe being higher didn’t bother me at all. I also don’t normally do mallets or center shafted putters, so this is much different than what I normally use, but I didn’t have any trouble switching.

As far as how it performs - as I said I haven’t had a zero torque type putter before but I find it very easy to align. The overall weight/balance feels very good. I was making putt after putt on my mat from 9 feet, which typically doesn’t happen with a brand new putter for me, whether due to speed or alignment. It seems very easy to make a good stroke. Also seems very forgiving from heal and toe strikes. I think BGT did a great job on their first putter release and they were nice to work with. Looking forward to taking it on to real grass and seeing if the success on the practice mat translates.

I got mine on Thursday. It’s very solid. I’d stack it up against any Cameron or Lab or Bettinardi I’ve had.  Pretty easy to align.  I made a lot of putts this weekend, but the honeymoon never lasts long.  I’ve been getting progressively flatter lie angles and this one is really close at 67*.  Had a LAB at 68* and 69*.  Cameron at 70*.
one question if anyone has any insight…would the lie angles be different or seem different if you had a 67* in a center shafted putter versus a heel shafted putter?

thanks

As long as the shaft is the same length, it would not affect the lie.  The heel of the putter will be a smidge closer to you.  If you are adjusting to this distance, you may be subconsciously getting a touch closer/further way, thus effecting your lie.
