Interesting - this shows exactly why I would never want to go to a tournament round there.

Or why I dont blame people who were leaving or watching Rose warm up before the playoff. Where do you think these people are going to go exactly? There's - relatively - no room out there around 18, at some point people are going to leave or do things like go to the range.

Athletes are performing at all time highs without negativity.

The villain excuse is lame.

Posters want hate and negative feelings between competitors for a questionable margin increase in performance.

It's unnecessary.

There’s a GIANT difference between focus and hate.  Not talking to someone doesn’t mean you hate them. Seriously are you just a troll?

do nfl players go to the other sideline and have tea during timeouts?

Their JOB is to WIN. this isn’t a 5 hour muni round with your buddies drinking a beer a hole and playing $5 nassaus.

Of course this poster is a troll. Professing to know how an elite athlete should act during competition, come on!

Possibly from the BDC legion of social media followers. Strategy: Create a wrx account (less than a year ago) and lay dormant. Then troll post 50 times at the time of opportunity.

The pattern has been repeated many times.

Anyway I'm still on a bit of a mental high this week in part from the witnessing the history made by Rory last weekend.

Like strange little moths to whatever little flame gets them going.

Update: This actually worked out pretty well

Gosh, I just can't agree that the layup was a blunder.  Perfect lie from 75 yards with 20 yards of buffer.  A tour pro like Rory is going to make birdie half the time.  It takes a big number out of play.  In reality he misses it that badly 1 of 300 times.

Except that it didn't take the big number out of play. Go for it in two, end up in Rae's, chip it close, you can still save par. Lay up, end up in Rae's on the third, chip it close, and the very best you can do is lose a stroke. There's a reason Tiger's total scoring is dominated by taking advantage of Par 5s. While it's risk-reward, the cost of a mishit is less penal than the cost of one approaching the green in regulation in the majority of cases.

Statistically Rory's 3rd shot is easier to pull off for most than a longer iron from farther out, yes, but the price of failure left zero room for recovery and he had to pay that price in full. Statistically overall and this past week at The Masters Rory is worse in Strokes Gained Around the Green than he is in Strokes Gained Approach and Off The Tee. At Augusta his OTT stats tend to be stronger than his strokes gained near the hole.

image.png.a15b0a0a736eea2bbdc20e2a9bcd6d32.png

His strength is his distance off the tee box and his great iron play. His weakness is putting and touch shots closer into the green. By the numbers he should do everything he can to use the big stick and full shots with the woods and irons to leave his competition in the dust. You saw what he did with blistered irons on 7, 9, 13, 15, and other holes again and again this past weekend, hitting shots up to 100% of what his body is capable of and still getting the ball on the putting surface and in birdie range. He played to his weaknesses rather than his strengths on 13 during the final round and it almost cost him getting that burden of over a decade off his shoulders.

I respect all that analysis, but yes, it took the big number out of play.  Only the worst shot in the history of televised majors prevented that.

I'm ready to hear the truth!  It's just us, the nerds on wrx who watch golf tournaments and post thoughts in real time.  You can tell us.

Mostly Wishon with a few Tour Edge Exotics, Cobra, Cleveland, and one Odyssey mixed in.

Not sure why Nantz said he needed to go pin hunting there.  Way too risky.

Dottie and IBF were all in on it too. Think I mistook IBF for Immelman during the broadcast, so my bad there, as I doubt he'd ever have co-signed that one given his actual experience winning at Augusta. Both the other announcers agreed he should be flag hunting on the most difficult hole historically and of the tournament which made no sense. Amen Corner has little mercy and 11 has never been the place to find it so I have no idea what any of them were smoking. Derailed Åberg last year like it has many others and it kept its rep up with DeChambeau.

13 is the one and only part of that three hole stretch you see anyone going for the pin, and that's mostly because besides having more square feet to work with than 11 or 12,  it also feeds the ball to most of the pin placements. No idea what they were on about claiming DeChambeau needed to try and win it all there.

Immelman was on the Fried Egg podcast and he clarified his remarks about Bryson on 11. Paraphrasing here but he said that he meant Bryson needed to be aggressive and decisive in the sense of being 20 feet to the right of the pin and not just bailing out way to the right of the green like most everyone does. Said he never meant that he has to go at the pin and that anything left of the flag was a massive error.
