The topic is The Masters - not making up stuff about Tiger “crying wolf” and minimizing his injuries and making up excuses. You hear about them because they were ……. real. I’m sure Tiger would have preferred not to have had major injuries and multiple surgeries over almost 20 years and you would have been spared having to hear about them, lol.

You're side stepping that it was in his control to minimize that narrative.

Back to The Masters ……

Listening to Curtis Strange talk I can’t help but remember the tragedies on the back nine on a Sunday that cost him a Masters. Weiskopf and Miller should have won at Augusta National and Tom always seemed in pain when he talked about it.

Be funny if come Thursday the talking heads at Hilton Head are still talking about Rory.

Anxious for New Orleans!

Going to sound a bit odd but his response made me think of Jack back ih the day and his putting at a major.

Jack was asked when he missed some key putts in a PGA Championship (think it was that or US open).     Jack cool as ever sated "I never missed a putt".

I was like WTF, well they did not go in?  Jack clarified he has never missed a putt, always hit the putt way he intended.....they just did not go in.

Correlation:  Jack it was such a strong mental aspect, in his mind he never questioned his putting, ever.  He saw what the thought it would do and hit it, if it did not go in so be it.  It gave him 100% confidence each and every time and really really short term memory....and it worked.....!

Bryson being way to "analytical" as we all know, I think its his way to cope. Since the day he burst on to the scene it has always been about his equipement. Almost none stop and annoying at times. So for him, its seems it easier to keep his confidence in his game that the clubs are not 100% perfect.

**Imagine if Jack did "hit" all the putts... he would have like 35 Majors...!

Great point here. This is well said and 100% accurate. Jack was famously one of the best at making excuses of all time. It wasn’t about shirking responsibility, it was about never doing or saying anything out loud that would compromise his confidence.

Bryson hitting 3 wood on 18 for sure. I can’t remember 9.  And I’d have to see 15 to believe that. Rory was behind the trees. I think Bryson was even  with him or ahed in the opening.  Rory pulled his hard.  This is so funny.  When you hate a guy. Apparently you don’t pay any attention to what club he’s hitting.

For most of us... 1 10-degree lofted wood = a driver.

For Bryson ... 10-degrees = his 3- wood?

Yup no way he is laying up on 13.. he makes birdie or eagle and it works out better

I mean more like, if we are playing the "if" game, that it works both ways.

Hey chopper, what are you hitting there?

After how long does being "out of form" turn into "a bad golfer"?

Kimd of reinforces my opinion that he has lots of avenues for income instead of milking sponsors. Assuming that was the plan.

Circling this back to the original topic...injuries and gear issues are nothing regular folks want to hear about for extended periods of time.

I suspect the illusion will make me eat crow in regards to  my Bryson critique, even though I'm a Bryson fan.  I suspect his tinkering leads to unlocking something gear related that changes the game significantly for the future.

I'm simply separating the player from the scientist here.  My opinion is for him to focus on repeating his swing/contact with current clubs at this level.

His legacy most likely will be in the tinkering and gear related arena...and I'm all for that for him.  But while competing is a risky extracurricular.

Ultimately the situation is, it's not wrong for him to be a scientist and golfer.  I just wish he would focus on golf continuity.

Do people still believe Bryson is a real scientist designing his own clubs?

Is he really coming up with ideas the big OEMs are missing on his own? I doubt it!

His new super irons didn’t help him this week. If he does develop equipment and a ball that goes straight no matter how bad he hits it. Does that diminish any future achievements? Maybe.

Regarding driving I was surprised how straight Bryson could hit the ball. Seemed to float out there with almost no spin. He goofed at times but with a 5 or 6 degree face that seemed amazing to me.

One thing I’ve noticed about Rory is the size of his quads. Dude has tree trunks for legs. I’m guessing that may be a key factor in distance.

Disclaimer: I’m no pro and have no exceptional expertise in the golf swing (other than having played for 50 years).

I take your point .  I agree he needs to just call TM and get a Rory esque setup and shut up.  No doubt. But.

Rory was 2nd in driving distance this weekend.  Bryson first by over 5 yards average.   And Bryson hit  much less drivers.  Bryson was hitting that 2 wood most of the time. He was behind Rory by design on a lot of holes.    He is a good bit faster  than Rory.  (10mph)    He’s up in the finau zone.  And can play 190mph ballspeed as a “ throttle back bunt “ like finau does.  That’s what he needs to do.

Except you can literally see in the app every tee shot. He hit plenty of drivers on the same holes as Rory to offer an "on course swing" distance comparison. They are playing at about the same speeds and Rory was (surprisingly) past him much of the day when they both hit driver.

I'm amazed at the different ways his interview is getting interpreted.

I think the phrasing that many people are reacting to (rightly or wrongly) was saying "he wouldn't talk to me" as opposed to saying "no, we were focused and didn't talk".

I'm already on record saying they should stop with these post round interviews after tough losses - so I don't think Bryson should have been expected to comment at all - but it is a very unusual and awkward way to phrase it. People hear that and it naturally evokes a thought of animosity, as in "he wouldn't even if I had tried", and people are then curious to dig into it more.

Definitely a dumb use of all our time, but let's be honest, golf could use another good rivalry. This seems as good as any!

I assume he and Faxon have the right putter figured out and could list the reasons but since they didn't ask me, that putter doesn't seem to fit with the free himself to putt, feel, creative kind of narrative they've worked on so much. Seems more of a putter for a mechanical kind of guy but I've never used one. Newport would be a more sensible style.

Fully agree.I am an oddity on putters, only used two putters in 23 years and both are SC newports.  Dont get me wrong I have "tested" a few over the years and including the sypder Rory uses.

Given everyone raves about it I had to try it so borrowed one from the club for a long weekend. 3 rounds with it and it was bad, really bad for me. Honestly I think the more I played with it the worse I got  🤣

Your spot on, for me it was very "mechanical" feeling.  I also realized how horrid I am with insert putters.  I dont feel like I have "touch" with it.  The greens I play on are also the same architect that did most/redid many of the greens at Augusta (Maxwell) and need "touch" on those.  *by "touch" I felt but it was speed issues for me, not line, which I relate "touch" to speed if that makes sense

Now, it "could be" since I have  only used 2 putters 98% of the time in all those years also........ LOL

Well then I guess your right, since it was on a pod cast. 🤣

If the "crew" was filming as they note we know the videos would have been posted by now...!  Granted IF Bryson really did do what they "state" he should be flamed for it.  You got me thinking though,  everything I read on the internet is must be true too..... 😎

Regardless it did not take away from a amazing event and Rory winning was awesome.  Gald to see him get the win.  The last 4 years I have been really pulling for him as the media has been hammering him over not winning.  Loved his comment "What you going to talk about next year"

bro really said "social media is biased" all while presenting a social media podcast as his source LMAO the irony

Rory at Quail will be fun

13 lay up was a blunder

I suspected a few years ago that the rumors of him and painkillers might be true, which is why he was having so many surgeries.

"Absolutely doc, cut me open.  Let's experiment and see if something works"

I see the internet posts making fun of his puffy face sometimes, but he always looks in shape and talks fine on camera.

Gosh, I just can't agree that the layup was a blunder.  Perfect lie from 75 yards with 20 yards of buffer.  A tour pro like Rory is going to make birdie half the time.  It takes a big number out of play.  In reality he misses it that badly 1 of 300 times.

Earlier in the thread someone equated what Bryson said about Rory with what Tony Finau said about Tiger.  In the two comments Tony was smiling and expressing admiration: he (Tiger) was so locked in he wouldn't even have a conversation.  IOW it was about complimenting Tiger.  Bryson on the other hand smirked and expressed insult: he wouldn't even talk to *me*.  It was about belittling Rory.

It's not something you could point to factually; it's just a social, non-verbal, facial and body language vibe.  Bryson made it about himself, and that's why some people aren't fans.

I told friends before the round that Rory had to not get caught up in the Bryson circus.  And sure enough Bryson tried to make the story about himself, but his golf couldn't back up the swagger.  If Rory hadn't gifted him the opportunity to win the US Open with a par last year Bryson would still be a only a curiosity.

Assuming all this is real, and it might not be...but there is quite the act going on....

Golfers are humans supposedly, correct?

Why is there this push to make fierce competition normalized?  It's kinda corny...the whole "I'm not saying a word to my opponent.  This is war"

It just gets really cheesy in sports.  Just act normal.  Guarantee non of those guys are overly chatty to the point another golfer has to tell them to stop talking to them.  Just be normal.

I'll never understand the need to morph into some different persona to compete.

This seems like a one off thing for Rory.  Maybe he experimented.  Maybe there is some small beef behind the scenes between them about LIV or something.  Whatever.

Still no need to do some 180 persona flip.

Nice to see the Bryson TikTok fans have come back to this thread to crap on Rory.

Tiger did this EXACT same thing to his final group in 2019 and was lauded for it. "Oh what a competitor". In what other sport are competitors supposed to talk to each other during competition? Sorry Bryson's feelings got hurt.

And if you guys who apparently made accounts in the last 3 days to defend the big golfer can't tell the difference between a reputable podcast telling a story of what they saw from the grounds of Augusta National vs. a grown man hiring 6-8 other allegedly grown men to follow him around with cameras documenting his every move and then only posting those things which paint him in a good light? Well maybe it's best to just head back to TikTok.

Come on,  you gotta admit it's cheesy to treat sport like war.

Be focused.  Don't be a robot.

It's corny...and I'm a big Tiger fan...and always thought it was corny.

Just be normal.  A little more focused sure...but acting not human-like is weird behavior

The one hole where someone made a joke on the tee box and everyone was laughing...but Rory.  It makes you look weird.

Basically it's an odd flex to put on a personal like that.  And I like Rory.
