The greatest comeback in history of sports?

I'm trying to recall a greater comeback in sports than this. First, Dallas scores empty netter to make it 5-2. However, Vancouver scores 3 goals in 55 seconds to tie and then proceeds to score winner in overtime.

'86 Mets in Game 6. 

 

The great Gary Carter (RIP) was my favorite baseball player as a kid ... so when he came down to his last strike with 2 outs, I was like "Nooooooooo, my man cannot be the last out of the World Series."  Then he hit that little looper into left field to kick off the rally. 

 

 

Excluding any golf - that was easily my favorite sports moment I ever saw.

Don't know if it was the greatest, but the Bulls coming back from 15 down at the start of the 4th quarter in the 6th game of the '92 NBA finals was pretty sweet. The Bulls outscored the Trail Blazers 33-14 in the fourth, clinching the series and winning their second straight title. The game was pretty much gone when the bench players started the comeback.

This is 50% great comeback and 50% TYVM as the Falcons only had to run the ball some, instead of throwing, and they would of won the game.

1999 Ryder Cup Sunday. Biggest comeback in RC history. I was there. Pre 9/11 and security was so weak my brother was sitting with his feet in a bunker on 17 next to a RC players wife and we walked inside the ropes to the 18th tee.

How about Ben Hogan? He spent 59 days in a hospital with a broken collarbone, a fractured rib, a broken left ankle, and a double fracture of the pelvis after a head on collision with a Greyhound bus. He wasn't expected to walk again. 

 

After the accident he went on to win 11 more times, including 6 majors.

Hockey is a tough one to compare because scoring 3 goals in 55 seconds is very possible.  It's unlikely, but after every goal there is a face off at center ice which allows the trailing team to regain possession unlike basketball or football where after scoring, possession of the ball moves to the other team with the strategy of killing clock.  Baseball is similar where big comebacks are possible because the winning team cannot stall.  They need to record outs to finish the game, and it's possible to continue to allow hits/walks/runs with no clock expiration to bail you out.

Different take on this, but Mario Lemieux coming back after weeks of radiation to score a goal against the Flyers, the night of his last radiation. He flew to Philly after it. Scored in the second period.

 

Lots of folks come back from injury, but they also rehab until they are close to 100%.

University of Maryland coming back and beating Miami was awesome. I believe that same QB has the Bills comeback... So, Frank Reich the King of the comeback.

Def not the greatest comeback in sports history. But made legendary by the fact the networks cut away from the game to broadcast the movie Heidi. So everyone except the west coast viewers missed it. The Oakland Raiders score two TDs in 9 seconds to comeback and beat the NY Jets.

Being a New England fan, it's a tossup. 28-3 sure, but to me, it's the 2004 ALCS. 

 

Yankees are up in the series over the Red Sox 3-0. Game 4. Bottom of the 9th. Y4 - RS3. 3 outs left. Lead off walk to Millar. Put in Roberts to pitch run. STEALS 2nd!!! Holy crap. Wow. What a move. Heart beat ups a bit.  But after 30+ years, of knowing Boston Baseball, the heart beat slips a bit into despair. They'll screw it up. Mueller up, singles to center allows Roberts to tie it up. Game goes to 12 innings tied, I'm wayyy behind on my sleep, and ORTIZ homers it over right field! Sox Win! 

 

Game 5 goes again into Extra innings, 14 innings total until Pappi comes up to the plate, singles to center and Damon comes home for another win. I'm totally behind on my sleep again. For what? Sox are down 3-2 and heading back into NY where they'll lose. 

 

Game 6. Sox got 4 in the 4th after a fan attempted to catch the ball but one ump said was in play, francona came RIPPING out of the dugout calling for interference and dead ball with 3 on. In an AMAZING turn of events, the umps, in NY, rules FOR BOSTON. 3 RUN HOMER! Sox held the Yankees scoreless until the 7th, where they gave up 1, and one more in the 8th. We have a tied series! But... we're still in NY. Ugh. I can't take this.

 

Game 7.... The Sox were heated (so you're saying there's a chance?). The bats were hot. Late game at 8:30. I'm watching this entire thing. I'll just go in late tomorrow. 1st inning, Pappi homers to RF putting them 2 up. Next inning, bases loaded, DAMON Grand Slam to right field. Sox are up 6-0 in the 2nd!!! Hot damn. Later on, Damon homers again, 2 inning later for 2. Putting them up 8-1. No chance. Sox are gonna win this one. Yankees get 2 in the 2th, but were held to 3 runs to Bostons 10 in that game. HUGE win for the sox and as we know the rest is history with the Sox going on to overcome the Curse of the Bambino and win their 1st World Series since 1918.... 86 year drought.

 

Nothing, to me, other than 28-3, will come close.
