PXG Gen 8

Recommended Posts

I wish they would remake the Gen 3 or a Gen 5 0311 T and P line with an improved look.

Although it sounds a little weird to say, I think Gen 5 had it almost perfect except for the area where they had the little area on the toe and heel that were the different color. If they would have kept the entire head the same color, I think the look would be more refined. I would probably encourage some mill marks to be shown like all the other heads. The one thing the must do is mill in the logo. The sticker/patch thing they used in the 0317 line cheapens the look, in my opinion.

Shape wise - I wouldn’t mind seeing them be a bit more compact and thinned out a touch. That being said, using the same size as the Gen 3 or 5 would not be a deal breaker for me either.

The main reason I loved both of these is because they actually had some spin whereas the 0317 T have no spin.

Keep the Gen 5 T feel and spin (maybe a touch more spin) and improve the look a bit and I’ll be one of the first in line.

Last thing - go back to including the T in Gen 8. No PGA Tour players play it anyway, so there is no need to try to fit it in the 0317 line. I think the vast majority of buyers would combo the T and P rather than T and CB or MB.

Huh? The 0317T has excellent spin. PXG fitter I worked with said the design was intended to add more spin and consistency vs previous PXG irons. Spin above 6000 on a 7 iron, plus a steep descent angle. They stop really well.

Here’s the opening paragraph from another site’s review of the 0317T:

“The PXG 0317 T irons use hollow body technology to give better players more forgiveness.  High spin and excellent distance consistency.  Extremely solid feel.”

Callaway AI Smoke Triple Diamond Max 9 degree driver w/Diamana TB 60S

Mizuno ST230 Max 7 wood w/UST LINQ Blue 7F4

New Level irons, 702CB+ 5-6, 702CB 7-P w/Project X Rifle 5.5

New Level SPN wedges (50SS, 54VS) w/Dynamic Gold s300

Ping Glide 4.0 wedge (58, E grind) w/Dynamic Gold s300

My experience said otherwise during my testing. There are also YouTube videos/reviews referencing the low spin aspect. I’m sure there are others out there that love them and you appear to be one of them. That’s fine too. The OP asked what we would anticipate or change and I gave my opinion. You are entitled to yours as well. Doesn’t make either of us wrong.

I think the Gen 7's are pretty much the best they have made to date. Going to be hard to beat them in my mind. If I had to pick my 2nd best it would be the Gen 4's for sure followed by the Gen 3's.

I never did like the Gen 5's, the only generation of PXG irons I never owned. Golf is so personal with feel, performance and looks.

definitely personal….. I have not hit the Gen 7, so I can’t speak to them but I’m a T player with a P 4 iron, typically. Since there are no Ts in the Gen 7 and the 0317 Ts didn’t work well for me, I just never bothered with the 7s. I like the look though, for sure.

I’m an oddball that never had spin issues with PXG P models on course/grass. Spin both Gen 5 and Gen 7 7 irons I’ve played in the 6800 range. Can get 7200 hitting fades with them.

I love how easy they are to hit, but I end up with odd gapping of roughly 15 yards between clubs and find myself constantly finessing shots by hitting hard or trying to take something off.

I’ve been bouncing between Srixon zxi combo set and my friends Gen 7 P irons recently and have mostly settled on Srixon…but the Gen 7 irons are just so easy to hit high and long anytime I have a bad round I wonder the what ifs.

The only thing I’d really like to see in Gen 8 is a refined sole. The P and XP models are supposed to be player/player distance models, but the sole on the XP is almost as wide as an SGI.

I would consider the XP game improvement.

I’ve owned most Gens of 0311 and will probably dive into the Gen 8 when they release them.  I know this has been said by many others,I really do wish that they would do a better job with shaft options.

I play graphite in my irons and nothing that they offer is in my top 3-4 choices. Seeing the same tired offerings year after year is getting old.

Completely agree. I’ve had multiple iron fittings and the shaft options were severely limited each time. They have a huge wall of shafts but only a select few are available.

That anniversary came and went. I’ve had my CBs since April 2023.

I was wrong when I said the 0317 line was introduced in September 2023.

The 0317 ST was introduced in September 2022.  The 0317 CB was introduced in April 2023.  The 0317 T was introduced in September 2023.  The T was the model I was waiting for and remember they arrived on the introduction day that September.  It was a few months later when my son took the T’s and I moved to the CB’s.

Gen 7 came out last August.  I think announcements came out in July, so it should be soon.

I’m holding off ordering my last sugar daddy wedge in hopes they’re heavily discounted when the 4’s are announced like they did with the 2’s.

I would think there would be no new Sugar Daddy’s for a while.  They are still new and they don’t upgrade those as often.

Hoping Gen 8 irons this year, but who knows.   When did the Special Ops drivers come out where they last year or early this year?
