Liv pga golf merge and that whole battle starts again. Pga players not happy as they should be.

P.s.

Rorys great but he cant win all four in one year. Wayy to difficult. The masters win just about ripped his soul out lol.

Except…that was the big one…..the monkey on his back. Now it’s off and he can go to what he does best, play freely without worry.  I’m not saying he will win the next three this year but they will be much easier mentally than this Masters.

Unless, of course, he wins the PGA and US Open.  Then the monkey would be huge trying to win the single year Grand Slam at Royal Portrush.

Jordan wins the PGA Championship?

That would a great one as the very next major is the one he needs. This story would have much more steam if he were playing better, but I'm not sure anyone thinks he's going to be a threat to win at Quail Hollow.

In fact the next major right after that, Phil goes for the career slam at Oakmont. But again, not sure that's realistically possible.

I had to look them up, as I’ve forgotten v.1.  Or more likely I’ve managed to suppress the ugliest irons ever made.

I would like Rory to get at least two more majors and pass Seve and Faldo as the best European golfer. If we are counting majors.

Hey chopper, what are you hitting there?

After how long does being "out of form" turn into "a bad golfer"?

So did mine! And I was barely playing at the time but even then knew how hideous they were.😏

Mudballs will be the next hot topic. Over the next year before the 2026 Masters, ANGC will replace all of the soil with a specially developed "non-stick" type so that they don't ever have this kind of talk around or about their course ever again.

Nah…just rangefinders allowed in a six event test run.

Top players can ghost each other surprisingly often; in fact Jack and Gary hardly ever contended in anything at the same time, note, out of 27 titles and countless near misses by both. The closest they ever got to each other was the 1962 PGA (3 strokes, GP won), 1968 Open Championship (2 strokes, GP won with an eagle on 14), and the 1974 Masters (GP by 3, Jack bogeyed 16 when behind by only 1).

Luckily they weren't the only two of their era fighting it out. Once we have the likes of The Duel in the Sun happening at least on occasion with two of them at it down the stretch on the final day we'll be there. As of now one peaks and the rest sleep by comparison. Rory’s nerves brought him back to everyone this past weekend, but if it weren't for that he was sailing away. It was only in question because of him, not the other big guns putting on the pressure.

Flip it around to any of the others winning and you have the same thing, one head and shoulders above and never any of them head-to-head in a dogfight in the final group over the weekend.

Rory and Scottie might become Nicklaus and Palmer of the 60s, winning everything and creating sustained excitment. But it feels to me that we may be entering the Curtis Strange Years instead, rougly circa 1985-1990. There must've been a lot of good and very good and even great players competing back then in that era, but for the life of me I can't remember a darn thing about it.

We know about the American Young Guns of the early 70's (born late 40's/early 50's: Miller, Irwin, Crenshaw, Kite, Hubie, and Watson, 17 majors tho one of them won almost half...20 if I include Larry Nelson, which I should. [yes, and the single winners in Watkins, Mahaffey, North, and Pate]

There however was a severe downturn in the fortunes of young American golfers after them (born mid 50's to 1970), until Lefty (b. 1970) showed up, with an especially fallow period for anyone born in the 60's:

Strange, born 1955, 2 majors

Stewart, 1957, 3

O'Meara, 1957, 2

Janzen, 1964, 2

Daly, 1966, 2

We know all about Daly, but Janzen's 2 wins represented 40% of his total top tens in majors. Yeah, we had close to a dozen guys who won once of course as well (quite a few of which were born in 1959), but overall the Guns still blew them completely out of the water.

Annnd their accomplishments were absolutely dwarfed by the international players during this period.

If we count the Player's for the sake of argument, our current Big Four have won the last 7 majors. In another thread I wondered if the next half-generation would start to assert itself soon, but aside from Aberg, who did contend for 71 holes, I'm not sure who is primed to challenge the Big Four.  Morikawa and Rahm SHOULD be up there, but they have been spinning their wheels for the last 2-3 calendar years now.

The next story is probably getting Bryson back on the tour somehow. He is the one people want to see back on tour. Some other LIV guys as well by hardcore golf fans but the casual fan wants Bryson.

The other story will probably be the Jordan career Grand Slam. His form just needs to get better to where people look at him as someone who can win.

YJS hasn't won in 3y and has 2 wins since 2017.  Could he catch lightning in a bottle? Maybe.  But I doubt it.

The expiring liv contracts will be the next big story. Nobody knows what offers will be made or considered or signed.

Koepka seems to dislike it but for 50 mil more,  he might keep disliking it vs working for a living. His game is pretty suspect at the moment.

Bryson,  same but it will take more $$$ to sign him to 14 weeks of boredom and phony golf.  But then it's only 14 weeks and plenty of time to make YT content.

Who knows? But this will be a big story.
