Titleist Driver Adapter - Silver Clip/Ring at the end is gone

Anybody ever had the little silver ring/clip at the end of a Titleist adapter come off?  

I was holding the adapter in a rubber shaft holder to clean the inside of the adapter out and when I pulled it out the cog came sliding off.  I compared it to another and the silver ring/clip was missing. i guess that’s what keeps the cog on the adapter?

 

Anybody have any ideas of what to replace it with to avoid having the cog slide off whenever I take the shaft out of the head. 
 

I would imagine it does nothing to hold the shaft to the head but its sole purpose is to keep the cog on the adapter?

I've ordered a new cheap adapter off ebay and pulled the ring off it when that happened to me.

Looks like I’m not the only one that had the silver o-ring come off. 
 

Did some more Googling and looks like some have used nitrile o-rings so I’m going to try that. 
 

If its purpose is just to hold the cog on, then a thin o-ring should do the trick. 
 

Why they don’t have a ridge like the Callaway adapters I don’t know. Seems like it’s an extra expense and additional steps in the manufacturing process that could be eliminated. 
 

Amazon order placed so I’ll see how it goes. 1050 piece of assorted o-ring sizes for $5.29 shipped to my door tomorrow. Gotta love Amazon at least until the tariffs kick in and everything goes through the roof.

You can pick up tiny o-rings for pennies at Lowe’s, Home Depot, and probably your local hardware store.

Cost me more in gas and time to get there and back than what I spent on the assorted size kit from Amazon. Works out to $0.005/o-ring and about 2 minutes of my time.

JUST had this happen with an Amazon adapter - ultimately found out it doesnt matter in performance. Just keeps the cog connected to the adapter. You can play it as is for now.

Have had the same issue with a original Titleist OEM shaft and did fix it with a tiny rubber O Ring.

@Radeon962 Other than holding the cogs on, I would think it helps keep the bottom of the adaptor centered in the hosel.  Without there might a little wobble.  Whether you can feel it or not, is speculative.

Unlikely. The whole point of the cog is to intentionally "wobble" the adapter and the tip has to leave enough room to allow that.   The interface between the cog and the head is what keeps the settings in place.  The very tip only holds the shaft in axially via the screw.

 

Now the ring might help put the tip in the right place to take the screw when installing the shaft.  So might need to wiggle the adapter a bit to get the screw started in the adapter.  But once the screw is in tension, there is not going to be any motion to worry about.

A couple wraps of electrical tape might be good enough for a temporary fix until you get the o-rings.

Its sole purpose is to keep the loose part of the adapter from falling off. It ain’t moving without the clip ring. I’ll add the adapter itself tapers a bit. It’s about .430 at the top, tapers a bit in the center, then flares back out to .430 at the bottom. Probably just to shave off a bit of weight. The clip ring itself is about .450 (which is probably highly variable) so I assume they have a pretty broad tolerance for the head bore and the adapter.

Totally forgot about the screw.  It most definitely would keep it centered and secured.

I just bought a shaft off this forums and the o ring was gone when it arrived. I contacted Titleist and they told me it is functional because it keeps the tension in the screw. Without it it torques differently. 
 

anyone here get a real replacement o ring?  Annoying situation.

I was under the impression that its sole purpose was to keep the adjustable cog on. I can't imagine that it provides any help in putting tension on the screw. If the tip material was thin enough for that to be the case, these things would seemingly fail all of the time. Especially in the FW's and hybrids that are impacting the ground constantly. But, I guess that's just my opinion!?

Didn’t really work. I just popped the ring off another shaft that was not being used and that fixed it.

Well, if it makes you feel better, I'm an engineer and it doesn't make any sense to me either.
