Drama with member FSUgolfer (sellers beware) - UPDATE 4/28

Yeah I’d want to know why there pics of stepped shafts as part of the sellers claim.   That definitely an item of concern.

Do you mean the buyers claim?     I (seller) sent Golf Pride that picture (of the two shafts) with my inquiry to see if they could tell if those were the same grips shown in my picture (the first one... from my ad).    I didn't notice buyer's image included one from a stepped shaft.   As has been said previously, that the buyer has fake GP grips but they are not from the shafts I sold him.

To me, after comparing to my other MCCs, the one on bottom with stepped shaft seems like the real deal grip and one with stepless shaft being fake. The lettering on the top one is too skinny and grooves in the red part are smaller. I could be wrong, but if thats the case, then yes, PX shaft does have the odd grip. Am I missing something?

Yes, buyers claim.  I’ll correct my original post.

These are new ones I have for reference.

Look at the “e” of your real ones. It fits inside a perfect circle. Now look at the stepped shaft grip, it is more oval while the one on the stepless is a “circle”.

I just checked my MCCs and they are circular in shape as well not oval.

The bottom grip on the stepped shaft is the obvious fake here (I'm comparing to a known good red MCC in my hands)

The "e" is messed up like BBO mentions, the "r" in Pride is totally funky, the top of the "f" in Golf is way too fat and looks wrong. Not to mention the white paint is very obviously too bright and white. The arrow at the end of the "G" looks distinctly like an arrow on the top grip and my real grip, and it looks fat and wrong on the bottom grip. The circle within the "o" of Golf is larger on the real grip, which matches my known real grip.

Unquestionably the grip on the stepped shaft is the fake grip. Here is a picture from the same angle of a known good red MCC

I've read a few of these type of threads and considered myself fortunate that I never had to write one.... well.. that ends today unfortunately.    First of all.. the $ in question is not huge ($160) and many others have experienced far more drama/$ loss than this will cause but thought I should create some awareness.

Placed an ad on 4/11 selling a few things, one of them 8 Project X 6.0 iron shafts 4-GW with red GP MCC midsize grips (see pic).   These came directly out of a new combo set of Srixon ZXis.   They never even saw the course but did see a little over a months simulator use (for those curious: I was fit into these shafts a while ago but since then have reworked swing to not be so aggressive/upper body focused so these were too stout).

ProjectXSet.jpg.2df1d0f4594e64390452b845437efae0.jpg

Here is the chain of events:

1) @FSUgolfer contacts me on Friday 4/11 asking some questions.   States that he doesn't play MCC mids (but plays standards) and is interested in the PX 6.0 for a "test set".   Decides to buy later that day for $160.  I ask him if I can ship on Monday and he says that was fine as he needed to source some heads anyway.

2) I ship on Monday 4/14 and he receives them on Thursday 4/17

3) On Saturday 4/19 leaves me positive feedback (you can check my feedback for yourself, but not sure of if there is a way to retract feedback, I included image of said feedback stating: "Great seller - item as described, in great condition with quick shipping."   Keep in mind this is two days after receiving the shafts.

Feedback.png.387277f10073985d33367f942f8cd90c.png

4) On Sunday 4/20 sends me a message asking where I got the grips as they have and "off putting and strong smell".     Giving him the benefit of the doubt I mentioned perhaps the smell was from the epoxy remaining on the irons or an artifact from the remaining grip solvent interacting with the grips (considering these shafts/grips were fairly new)...had no idea to be honest as these came directly from Srixon.   I might not have the best sense of smell in the world (my wife will attest) but these grips never had any sort of smell associated with them at any point I had them.   He sends me a picture of (see pic) why he thinks these are fake (along with the smell aspect).    After our resulting conversations, I'm not sure they are the same grips... or maybe they are after he reinstalled them after his "test",.. that is all conjecture on my part.    I tell him i see some differences but it could be to how grips were applied (if one was slightly stretched over another), but thought surely Srixon knows how to apply grips.

FSUgolferGripPicture.png.dc5afb4c214a373b2aafefb3e207ca62.png

5) He tells me he is going to submit to Golf Pride, which I thought was a great idea.   I always knew that fake GP grips have a terrible smell but did some research (including here on WRX) with some other giveaways that grips are fake.   I told him of other things to compare to including the cord, the seam, end cap, etc... and to take more pictures.    This is still on Easter Sunday.

6) The next afternoon he replies that Golf Pride told them they were fake .....fun fact, he embellished a little on how long he had these... said a week had gone by when he had them for 3 days (nitpicking but interesting combined with a comment he later made... see #8).   Also note he apparently didn't include the picture above...

Untitled.jpg.8037d701a17708a4fd4a1cc9818324f6.jpg

7).  At this point I'm floored... I know these came from Srixon as did the shafts (he later claimed that he believed the shafts were fake too).    I decide to contact Golf Pride myself with the first picture I listed in the ad, as well as another one I took but didn't include as I thought it was superfluous.    I didn't have any of the cap, etc...  But thought it would be enough for them to offer an opinion.   Haven't heard back from them aside from a general reply that they had no prior claims that Srixon were using fake grips.   Although I did get back this initial reply I haven't heard a detailed reply back.

😎 FSUgolfer states he wants a full refund and a shipping label.   I told him that he could ship them to me at his cost and I would refund him minus shipping I paid (I would even eat the PP fee).   I said other than that he could file a claim with PayPal.     I told him if I get these back and they are not in the same condition that I sent them in, it wouldn't be over and I would post this issue here.   Again, the amount we are talking about isn't huge.   Thought his response below was interesting.   I guess he would be fine with me reselling these even though he is so sure they are fake as long as he gets all his money back...such integrity.   Love how he says "No harm to you"... really?   No harm but I have to eat costs of shipping them both ways, PP fees and even if I get these back will they be the same as shipped?

Untitled.png.328c70bac86e99238276dfadb4d6d84f.png

9) That brings us to today.   I hadn't heard from him in over two days but get a notice from PayPal that he filed a claim.  I have responded to that claim.      As many have mentioned in other similar threads, the best course of action is to resolve between buyer and seller and allow a dialogue.   Now that has happened and he is pursing this via a PP claim, I thought was a good time to post this and unload this monster of a post on WRX

I’m not casting aspersions on you but putting this in PayPal’s hands is not going to go well for you. They probably don’t even understand the difference between a shaft and a grip.

It's hard to tell without clear photos of your original listing but the cord on fake golfpride grips are always the giveaway. the cord is more pronounced on the fakes vs the real ones. they have more cord showing. the cord is more straight and stringy than the real ones.

3 hours ago, txbadger said:

He didn't mention which one was which.   Even in the crazy odd event Srixon was using fake grips.. these had no smell and from what I remember cord look just like the ones I still have.

I consider myself being pretty good at spotting fake golf pride grips and I'm having a hard time determining that on the grips in OP's first photo. they all seem uniform and matching. do you have the full photos you sent to golf pride?

2 hours ago, rooski said:

Very, very weird that the photo he sent you with the fake grip is objectively not on the shafts that he bought from you (stepped vs stepless shafts).

Something very uncouth going on here

Yeah this should be an easy open/shut case if @FSUgolfer can post photos of the shafts with grips, close-ups of the cord preferred because as @Yanki01 stated above the cord is a dead giveaway with the fakes. It looks completely different from the legit ones in the way he described and it's super simple to spot. @txbadger do you have any close-up pictures of your grips?

Those are +4s if im not mistaken, not the same grip. But i agree with others, the bottom grip, stepped shaft looks like the fake.

Agreed….compared to the other grips that have been posted the G on the grip with the stepped shaft is….for lack of a better term…blurred.   The bottom right of the letter is not nearly as precision cut as the others.

It wasn't my idea he do that but as it is one of his options that is what he took.   I agree that they probably don't know much if anything about the subject at hand but I have been providing as much detail as possible.

This is one I took during the same "photo session" I did when I was getting ready to sell.    I didn't include it in the ad because I thought the full picture showed enough detail (with how much I posted on this tread, you probably wouldn't think I favor brevity).  The picture at the top of this post is the one I had in the ad.    Bear in mind, the pictures he sent to Golf Pride (in that image I posted in my #6 in the original post) are not my grips but are fakes he had from presumably the same on that is on the stepped shaft and not my PX 6.0

As an aside.  I have only bought GP grips from big box stores (2nd Swing, Scheels (regional), PGA Superstore) or from OEMs like Srixon, TM, Cally... etc.      Always stayed away from eBay and the like because of the info I've read on here... but still getting an education as the #1 thing I thought was a dead giveaway was the smell.... never had considered the font to the level we are discussing or the cord.    But then again if buying from reputable places, you shouldn't need to be worried.

So there are grips that are fake in the buyers photo, however it’s the buyers grip on on the stepped shaft that is fake.

giving the buyer benefit of the doubt, imagine playing a set of fake grips thinking they were real, and then buying a set of shafts and grips from an oem that had real grips and thinking they were fakes 😂

This honestly seems like more of what happened.
