from my discussions with at least one of the mods since this thread has been created, that doesn't seem to be the case.   I hope I misunderstood, but this issue didn't meet the criteria for a ban.

Why would Paypal charge you to fight their dispute with someone else?  They're not fighting anything on your behalf.  They're fighting his dispute of a legitimate charge on his account.  It should be open and shut for them.  He's wanting to return the shafts on the basis that he received counterfeit merchandise - that's proof that he authorized the charge for said merchandise.  

 

I'd be disconnecting my bank account or credit card from Paypal today and possibly closing my account.

 

Also, if you don't get the shafts back, you don't have to refund.

They've already taken the money.. I don't have a say in this matter aside from the statements I made to PP on the facts of this issue.    Up until now, it was all in PP's hands... now the buyers bank has pulled (or held) funds from PP.     So the whole charging me thing is for them to interact with the buyers bank that pulled the funds instead of this all being an internal matter for them.   Not saying I agree with it, because I certainly don't.     

 

Just be aware that PP can do this sort of thing to any one of us if it happens.    So even if you "win" in PP's eyes, the buyer can apparently simply just go to their bank and have them pull funds.   I'm not trying to overreact here, as who knows if the buyers bank is going to see reason with this, but if not its pretty clear banks are ok with fraud as long as its one of their account holders.

yep... this really opens the door for scammers to have absolutely no repercussions (within certain fiscal amounts ofc).   Heck, they won't even ban you for this.

Have you tried calling PayPal to discuss this case with them?  From my previous dealings they are usually very helpful.

At this point, I'm not sure I see a reason to.    I guess said in a different way, they've already stated that they wont be restoring the funds the buyer scammed from me unless his banking institution resolves the dispute in PP's favor.

Still call them. You'll get some low level people at first but keep asking to have it escalated. Eventually you'll get to someone who can actually do something. You might not get the resolution you want but at least you can try by talking to an actual person. Sometimes you gotta go full Karen and keep asking to talk to the manager.

You may get more context on what is happening by calling.  I guess if you have already made up your mind then so be it.  I was just trying to give you another option to explore.  Best of luck to you!

I've called before regarding a scam that happened to me, PayPal is beyond useless. Had my account in a weird hold for a month cause of it.

Dealing with a similar issue to this on ebay. Sold golf shoes and buyer messaged me after receiving saying he wanted to return because they looked "too young for him". After I declined the return (per my ebay policy) he opened an ebay case claiming I committed fraud which ebay sided with me on after seeing his threatening messages and initial return reason.

 

The buyer then disputed the charge with his bank which ultimately led to the buyer keeping both my shoes and his money even though the evidence was clear that he wanted to return the shoes. The whole process took 4-6 months.

 

Hoping for a different outcome for you, but sad that these loopholes exist and people will exploit them.

 

We all depend on both Paypal and the mods to keep this forum a trustworthy marketplace. It sounds like Paypal may not be as protective as we had once thought, but I hope/trust that the mods of GolfWRX have reasons not for not banning FSUGolfer (although it is difficult to understand what they are at the moment). Hoping they step up and to help add even the smallest layer of protection when PayPal wouldn't. If when this is all said and done, he is still allowed to B/S/T on the site that would be a real shame for the community. 

 

Kudos to you for handling this as levelheaded and sensible as possible. Hope karma finds low rounds and epic club deals in exchange for the weeks to come!

To be clear, I appreciate your input... wasn't trying to come off as dismissive.   The response I got from PP this morning had more information in it beyond that screenshot,.. just posted that part as it was sort of a TLDR summary.     Next step is to wait to hear what PP hears back from their dispute with scammers bank.

Appreciate it.   Sorry you had same general experience.   Not that any amount is acceptable for something like this, just thankful it wasn't a larger ticket item for either of us.

Seems like that’s FSU’s current tactic. But if it genuinely is the case, why wouldn’t he just say that up front? People have had their WRX account hacked and PP accounts too. That’s public knowledge. Using the hacked account explanation would be an easy out. The membership here would have empathy for both parties. His silence and pulling this bank crap now just makes him dirtier.

Mods handle these issues the same way they've been dealt with for at least the 20 years I've been on here. No one is banned until the issue is closed and done with - period. Thats the way its always been.
