Broke Par for the 1st Time Today

I'm currently a 5.3 hcp golfer. Today, it all came together for me and I finally broke par. I shot a 69 on a par 71 course. The funny thing is I bogeyed the last 2 holes, got a little tight. I'm 47, never had a hole in one and shot around par many times. Today is one of the greatest days of my life. Unfortunately, I only won $15 because my competition went off too.

I will never forget the day I finally broke par. I was about 35. Shot 71. Finally broke 70 at 51. Still chasing lower.

[PS. Pretty rarified air ... there's around 26 million golfers in the US. It is estimated that somewhere between 1% - 2% will ever actually break par. Bask in your glory dude!]

I've been flirting for the past month, but seem to fall apart late. It was a day when everything I hit was almost perfect. I could have shot a 65-67 to be honest which is absolutely ridiculous to think about. The best part was that it was a money game so it meant something.

 

The $15 is what it is. Played some stiff competition. Great scoring condition, 86 degrees, very light wind. I had 5 birdies, one guy had 6 and another had 5 too.

Awesome accomplishment.  Sometimes everything just comes together AND the golf Gods smile upon you.
 

I am 51, currently a 4 index and have been playing for about 30 years.

 

I have only done it twice.  The first time I was playing with my FIL who is 80.  Instead of playing from tee I normally would I played the super senior tees.  I think it was sub-6000 yards.  I think I only used driver once or twice and hit iron off of every other tee.  Shot 69.  Totally understand that I still got the ball in the hole yada yada yada, but it still felt like a 69*, not a real 69.

 

Fast forward a few years and I have the most effortless 71 of all time.  Had 2 birdies, 1 bogey, and 15 pars.  Never had to grind (except 18) and every birdie putt was makeable.  Longest par putt was like 12".  I was so nervous on 18 I left my approach just short and then left the next shot 6' short.  Hit a bad par putt but it broke more than I thought and went in. 
 

At the end of the day I now have a 69* and a 71.

 

Still chasing that feeling.

I tried playing from the senior tees once, it was a disaster. Shot an 84. Lol. Never again, messed with my head after.

Extra cred for doing it in a money game lefty.  Take that mindset and game to casual rounds now. The cool thing about golf is you can so it again real soon or it may take another year (let's make it sooner.)

Depends..... I know a few seniors (70+) that play at 54-5600 yds and sometimes break par. They were low cap and a scratch players years ago, they earned it.

I don't need to go that far forward, but it's a challenge at 7000 yards.  It might still happen if I can get my stuff together all at the same time.  For 18 holes.

Hell yea dude. I did the same last year. Its especially frustrating if you are consistently a few over par but can't get over the hump.

 

What was the round like? Fairly clean scorecard?

Congrats... doing that was easier when I was playing to a 2... my lowest was 68.  Now 5ish, I am just angling for carding my age now.
