What Irons should I buy?

Hey guys, im currently in the market for new irons.   Heres some background on me real quick.

 

Im about a 14 handicap.  Though Id say my irons are the stronger part of my game.  My misses have always been slices but in attempt to fix that I now hit some big swinging draws and or hooks.   Contact is solid.  Sometimes a little fat but improving with that.

 

I currently play mizuno JPX EZ irons from 2016 and am looking to upgrade from GI irons into players distance.

 

I haven't loved my experience with getting fitted but I probably will in order to try all the clubs.  Here is my list so far on what I want to try:

 

Mizuno: 225, 223

TaylorMade: P790, P770

Srixon: ZX5 MKII, ZX7 MKII

Titleist: T200, T150

Ping: i530, i230
 

Any suggestions on which route to go and any other brands/models im missing here?

you posted in the Japanese clubs forum, so i think the votes will go to sirxon and mizuno 🙂 .

 

All those irons will probably be fine. ZX5 and ZX7 are not the same category, just like p790 and p770, i530 and i230.  The first ones you listed on each row are the more forgiving models.

225 for me was always a flier magnet. They are good, but just be warned from my experience they are hot. I even had them bend them 2 degrees weaker. 223 are solid and I should have gone with them in hindsight. 

 

I 230s are a solid buy I combo them with the blue print s, but it is not necessary to combo them. They are solid by themselves.

Current JPX Forged is fantastic. Cobra 3DP is extra fantastic and extra pricey.

Generally yeah, I picked up some Kuros, miuras and some 80's mizuno vanguards over the last 6 months, but the ones I like the most were the JDM version of the Callaway epic forged stars. The shafts seem to suit me better and the technology in the club face.

 

I've since bought some epic super hybrids (2u, 3u and 4u) and the epic max 3w. All the Japanese variants. For me the Inbetween shaft flex options that the Japanese market have is just better suited to me as I'm using a SR (Stiff-Reg) flex and enjoying it.

Looking at the same clubs. Honestly I would consider a zxi5/i7 combo, go, zxi5 for 4-6, and then zxi7 for 7-PW.

Srixon is best value for money, amazing irons. The pro 223s are amazing, spinny but feel great

Currently playing and enjoying the Mizuno JPX 923 Forged.  Less expensive than the 925 Forged and very similar in performance IMO. Top line is still a touch thick, also IMO. Had a set of 223s and moved them on.

Give the mizuno a go for sure and their fitting optimizer is really good and helps give you shaft flex and model recommendations top 3 and you can swing all of them to see how they feel and perform. It gives you the lie angle and helps with giving you a model recommendation. Try the jpx forged and the pro s3 as well can't go wrong with your pics. This just helps take the fitting and make it easier.

The 225 are hot in the mid irons and the gapping is a little weird. Good looking, accurate, fast and forgiving, but not insanely consistent after the forged 9i.

Epon Af307 would be amazing if that's your type of club..... I used and still have Epon Af302.... solid as they come.

Just got a set of Bridgestone 241 CB and I love them.  They have such a great feel to them
