Best solvent for cleaning grips?

I recently put new Tour Velvet grips on my clubs. Is there a consensus for what product to use to clean them? I currently have Windex (blue) in the pump bottle and also Dawn liquid dishwashing soap at home. Are either of these preferable over the other? Or another product?  I know this isn’t rocket science but I just want to be consistent about my procedure. The grips went on about six weeks ago and up until now I’ve just been wiping them off with a wet kitchen scrubby sponge and drying off with a towel. Thanks for any help.

My vote is the Windex.  Not the foam.  I find it does a good job and is lots easier.

Just a wet towel and elbow grease.  No need to put slippery soap or detergent on them.

Grips are rubber so use a product that cleans rubber.  This has been my go to for years.

 

Although it does appear Black Magic acquired Westley’s and some are saying they slightly changed the formula unfortunately.

This here^.  Actually, any degreasing type cleaner/soap.  Simple Green and similar is A+.

 

The scotchbrite is the key element here.  Use a Green or Maroon pad, squirt on some dish soap, and scrub good and hard.  The harder you scrub, the better the results.  This is very effective on Tour Velvet and Crossline, full rubber, grips.  Do this every few months, and the grips will feel like new.

I went to Windex after a run in with water softeners.  I was staying at a place in Arizona that was using water softeners and although the grips were clean they were slippery as an eel.  No amount of Dawn was going to help.

I always use Simple Green to clean my grips. It's great.

I may be alone here, but I usually do a blue dawn scrub/dry, and then a quick wipe down with rubbing alcohol to finish it off. Just gives me peace of mind that all the dawn is removed. You know that stuff is hard to wash off...

 

(I also don't use rubber grips, so the alcohol may be a bad choice there. But for winn/iomic/NO1, it works.)

Dish soap does a great job of lifting oils off of the grips, which is most of the issue with dirty grips, and it rinses off easily with cold water.  I used to just wipe down my grips with a wet towel, and then once I did the full scrub and I never went back.  Felt like brand new grips compared to just a wet wipe down.

Scotchbrite is the cheat code, towards restoring the grips like new.  It's not overly effective on cord grips, but it's amazing on full rubber grips.  Using a brush is 1/2 as effective.

Be sure to test depending on the grip. Some of the Star Grip lines need nothing more than Dawn and warm water. A few drops of Dawn on a slightly damp hand towel or microfiber cloth will take care of your whole bag and leave them feeling like new for pretty much all of their lifespan.

 

I'd imagine leather grips are similar, with no need to use something abrasive to scour away the top layer like with Tour Velvets, just need to break up any dirt and grime and wipe it away.

Clean them often.  After every range session or couple of rounds.  And using some sort of brush to get the cords clean.

Best I have ever used is Permatex Fast Orange with pumice. A small tab of this along with warm water and a soft brush leans all kinds of grips.

 

This stuff is used by mechanics to clean greasy/oily hands.  Grips come out  really clean and tacky unless they are deteriorated by long exposure to excessive heat or uv rays.

You can use dawn as mentioned before, using a splash of mineral spirits on rag note a bad idea. You can do this a couple times during the life of the grip and will take the top layer of rubber off the grip similar to sanding and make it feel similar to when it was knew once fully evaporated.

Clean as you would any other rubber grip (dishwashing soap and brush are my go to) and then grab a bit of mid-fine grit sandpaper and run over them gently. It brings up the cord beautifully. Rinse down and light brush again after sanding to remove any debris it has brought up.

Regular washing up liquid, followed by a buff with a bath towel.

 

You can prompt the cord to come out a bit with a light run over with some fine grit sandpaper.

Right. Dish soap or windex and some warm water with a brush of some sort. If you really want to get frisky use some scotch brite. If it’s so bad you need to use harsh solvents or tire cleaners it’s probably bad enough to just change it.

Do the whole set in minutes. Spray windex, etc. in a terry cloth towel, scrub and clean all in one shot. Towel will show the results of how dirty your grips are.
