Adding weight through hotmelt port (that isnt hotmelt)

I've got a couple of driving irons I want to add a few grams of weight too. I dont like the look of lead tape, and I dont have access to a hotmelt gun to add the weight that way.

 

Does anyone have experience opening up the hotmelt port on a driving iron and either using head tacking adhesive (rattle stop) or stuffing yarn or polyfill into the hole? I figure for the 3-4 grams I can probably ram enough yarn in to get that weight, and I figure the head cavity would be small enough that if I used rattle stop even if it moved around in hot conditions the actual amount of weight and the extent to which it could move would't have any impact

 

I'm not worried about having the get this weight out, I am looking for a permanent solution. I live in a country where access to holtmelt gun doesnt exist. 

 

Just open to ideas here and maybe i'm overthinking it...or maybe I just need to fork out and import a hotmelt gun

I’ll probably get laughed or downvoted into oblivion over this but I have added weight to driver heads before with yarn. Just measured out the amount I needed for the weight I wanted and stuffed it in through the hot melt port. It’s possible to get it out later but it’s not easy. It has the added benefit of deadening the sound and if you get fluffy fuzzy yarn it will be so nebulous inside of the head it really won’t compact or go anywhere.

Isn’t this technically illegal if you are in a sanctioned event?

I’m not sure. I never used any of the drivers I did this with in any events.

I wouldn't say it's common - but it's nothing new or around here.   On the Golf WRX scale of "crazy things people do" or "get laughed at", it's maybe a 2 out of 10.

Most likely.  If any movement of the inserted material is possible during the swing or just the round, then it will be non-conforming.   Even a tiny bit of motion that would have no actual effect on the performance is enough to make it technically illegal.    With enough rattle stop, you might be able to stop any motion IF too much yarn was not added, but I doubt you'd get any  USGA or R&A official to approve it.

 

Technically, it also means you should not post any rounds played with it for handicap purposes - but I'm not here to be your conscience so don't interpret it as any kind of judgement from me.

 

If one is worried about conforming with the rules, stick to lead tape, hot melt, aftermarket replacement head weights, or tip weights in the shaft.

If you're looking to add significant weight to your driver or fairway head, the fastest internal method that I've found is 2.4mm paracord. It has decent weight and is relatively stiff so pushing lengths of it through screw ports is WAYYYYYYY easier to do than yarn. Can be found at Fleet Farm, it's called Atwood Tactical Cord 3/32".

I will steer you away from head tack as it will run and when you have the head upside down it will run up any opening as well as the adapter.  If the head is closed from the adapter/shaft bore then it would be fine.
