Which Ventus shaft best compares to my Titleist TPI fitting recommended Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Black 75

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Recently had a fun TPI fitting at Oceanside that I discussed here:

and the fitter recommended these 2 shafts for a possible woods:
Driver- Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Black 75  (for a GT3)
3 wood- Mitsu
bishi Tensei 1K Black 85 (GT2)

side note: I currently have black velocore 6x on My Krank fire Pro And a Red Velocore 7x on my Qi10 (which I don't use much)
another side note :  for anyone new to this thread  here is a quick synopsis of my TPI visit.

I really went there for my wedges(as I have /had zero clue on grinds and stuff)
Wedge fitting went very well.
Iron fitting went pretty well.
Wood fitting didnt go so well.- due to the fact that they only have standard grips.  so we skipped a lot and guessed. I use JMAX large
Fitter acknowledged that they see a ton of people now with the JMAX and they really should have them there.. (a different topic)

What Ventus Velocore shaft do you think best matches these 2 shafts/weights
If I decide to get these heads?

Thank you.

besides the fact that they didn't have JMAX grips and I  "couldn't/can't no more"  swing the regular twig grips..
What Ventus TR shaft do you think best matches these 2 shafts/weights-

Tr black 7 and 8 in x.  I think Ventus might be slightly higher balance point but if your playing jmax grips swingweight is likely a metric that isn’t as important to you

Did you not try the TR Black while you were there?  If not, why not?  I'm sure they were available.

Owning the 1k Black, having hit a bit and liked the OG Black, and having hit the TR Black, I'd agree the TR Black is a closer comp but, and I could be wrong, it felt about 1/2 a flex(?) stiffer than the 1K.

Always felt the 1k got you like 90-95% of the way there at about 1/3 of the cost.  I could have "vacation eyes" reminiscing about the original Velocore's feel though.

There really isn't a Ventus shaft that's a match to 1k black, IMO.  1k black is tip and mid stiff with a softer handle, lacks feel and was a true low/low shaft for me.  I'd say launch/spin wise, the TR black was the closest, but that's where the similarities end.  As @bcflyguy1posted, just roll with the 1k black as that was the best fit for you.

I have ventus Black tr 6x on my Krank fire pro (like)... and Red ventus 7x on my Qi10.(dont like)

1- They didn't have Jmax grips and because I really couldn't swing their clubs we didn't bother changing any shafts. It was a waste of time (testing out woods)

So he guessed - based on swing metrics with current clubs.

Jesus, I hope you didn't pay for that...

I agree with others that TR Black would likely be best. Have you tried the new Black Velocore +? The + is stiffer than the original velocore but not quite as stout as the TR models, from what I understand. The + is also very stable in the tip section compared to standard velocore. Might be a good 'tweener shaft if you are on the fence about the feel of the TR being a bit stout but want to retain that same tip rigidity.

So you had a fitting but it didn't go so well because you are used to jumbo grips and struggle with standard?

You felt like it was a waste of time and didn't learn anything?

The fitter (reputable TPI) guessed and said just order 1K Black 75X?

Now YOU want to guess and go with a Ventus that's similar to 1K Black even though you are unsure whether 1K Black is good for you in the first place?

Sounds like you're on the right track. If that doesn't work then there's always BST Roulette for the next one.

I'm just used to the Ventus Black I guess.
I might order the driver with their recommendation and can always change it later on - if needed.

Yeah if you’re just ordering blind your best bet is probably the 1K Black or Ventus Black if you already have experience with that and like it. At least the 1K is a cheap potential mistake. Is there another fitter you have access to that can blow grips off and on?

Have you tried the Bryson la golf stuff?  I know the Bryson profile shafts seem to have a stable tip, but still have a little kick.

if you are playing jumbo max grips you might appreciate a shaft with a little kick it it.

Thanks. I agree with that. I don't have access to a fitter who can do that..  Must of spent 800 buxs in last 6 months experimenting with different JMAX grips.  (another topic)

I have looked into them for my Long Driver Club (Krank 5 deg).  Haven't tested a LA shaft yet but will look into it a little more.

If you like the OG black, there's a really good chance you'll love the Velo+ black.  I had the OG black and numbers were pretty damn close to optimal, however, I didn't love the feel, just tolerated it.  Then Fuji goes and makes something that's good to begin with and makes it better with the Velo+ black which has all the goodness of the OG but feels way better.

His shafts are stiff/stiff+/med+ from what I remember.  I had a chance to hit a quick 5 balls, lol so not much to go on.  Quite unique.  Diamana WB is the closest if OP wants to stay mainstream followed by Speeder TR.

same. Was hard to keep the face square in the Bryson stuff with a midsize grip.  When I tinkered with a jumbomax grip it was much better.  Felt like I could just release as hard as I could and it just hit little draws.

Thanks, I have the Black Velocore 6X on the Krank and Red Velo 7x on the Qi10- should of put that info in above.  The red 7x was an experimental club . won that from Horvat's yt page when the Qi's first came out.
I opted for the 6x on the Krank. but probably should of gone 7x. I like it still.

Since it wasn’t actually a woods fitting, just go with what you have used and know works for you. That’s your safest bet.

I personally love the TR Red 6x for driver. I originally had the Evenflow Black 75 6.5, but after some years it started to feel too heavy. I wish I could’ve found the EF 65g 6.5 for cheap but it wasn’t out there, hence the fitting that ended with TR Red. That said, I had a thought about replacing the entire driver and it was immediately apparent that the same shaft in my Ping head or the comparable Titleist head at the same build spec was interchangeable. If it were blind I wouldn’t have been able to tell them apart, so if you feel the Titleist head is the right match for you then your prior/current shaft model should work. Than again, since it really wasn’t a fitting I’d have some trouble trusting that the head is the right one, and drivers are a pretty expensive gamble these days!

Closest thing to 1k black is the Aldilia Tour Green.  Profile is kinda linear, then a jump in stiffness about 1/2 to 2/3 from the butt.

LA DJ or Bryson

Maybe GD VF

UST Lin-q blue

Tensei orange (stiffness bump is right under hands tho).

1k PB - med/stiff/stiff+

LAGP Bryson - stiff/stiff+/med+

AD VF - med+/stiff/stiff+

Lin-Q blue - No idea

CK/1k PO - med/stiff+/stiff

Thank you.
It was a full fitting. But due to the Grip(or lack of) issue we cut the driver fitting short as nothing was going to work unless -we spent a week there.  (the standard grips were actually shifting in my hand in the backswing and to compensate I would have to 3-4 knuckle it and HOOK...)
I have the red TR 7x on my qi10 (which I don't use anymore really) and on my 3 wood (stealth 2) which I break out only in case of emergency.
The shaft deal gets complicated.  I mean when you have shafts that cost as much or more than the head - you really don't want to make any mistakes.
Which is why I might just go with the low cost one they recommend. see how it goes and change after. Unless I find a fitter who has everything including the large JMAX grips.

Reach out to jmax and see if they know of any fitters in your area that use their grips in fitting.  They will likely know.

Is there something about the Jmax grips that keeps them from being blown on and off?

I asked the guys at my local golf warehouse(golf mart) here in SD and apparently it's not easy (though I know nothing about it)
It has been a very expensive process going through various JMAX grips on different clubs and tossing new ones to experiment with another size and or weight.
But it has been worth it.
