It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Katsuhiro Miura (1942 - 2025), founder of Miura Golf and a master craftsman of hand-forged irons known worldwide for their quality and performance.

Katsuhiro Miura, 1942 - 2025.

Founder of Miura, who has continued to run it with his sons.

For the average US casual weekender, it is a somewhat obscure brand (you won't find any Miuras on the shelves at Dick's). For fanatics however, the craftmanship of the clubs and their exquisite forging have long been known and respected.

Seems appropriate on WRX to acknowledge a man who devoted his entire professional life to producing superlative clubs.

To this day, a lot of each iron is done partially by hand:

It does suck when people die and my condolences to family and loved ones. It sucks to lose someone you love.

But it is the natural order of life, and outside of his immediate family I'm wondering why you all care so much.

I'm trying to think of the percentage of the golfing population that knows who Miura is. Gotta be in the single digits.

Wondering how many people have ever hit a ball with a Miura produced product. Gotta be in the less than single digit numbers - like .02% of the golfing population or something. I never have.

We've seen some Miura product on the pro tours - but very rarely. Not a ton of impact there.

So...all of this makes me wonder... why do we care so much.

Is it because we think we should? Does caring about the death of Miura give us "street cred?" Are we all just waiting for that moment in the clubhouse where we can mention his name, and then get the opportunity to school our buddies and prove our "superior golf knowledge?"

Hmm...yeah, it kind of feels like that.

Disagree.

Forged clubs are viewed by many better players with almost mythical reverence.  And Miura is on the top of the mountain.  His reputation was well deserved, too.

I can still remember my first time playing Miura irons; first shot, and I immediately connected the dots between what people describe about the feeling, and my own experience.  They were unique; a firmish feel relative to some other forged irons, but very pleasurable.  I'll never forget that experience.

I get that mon frer. Been hearing this since I was a kid.

I've played Epon forgings - never Miura.

Didn't notice a single difference in performance.

I play golf - not golf clubs. Seems like we get a bit confused around here at WRX.

Cast irons work.

Have forgings from every major supplier of heads, all got heavy play too, all can be great and much of it has to do with the basic design & grind. Feel of heads, appreciate it but it's not the be all for me. Aside from outstanding build quality, what sets Miura apart  in my eyes is their use of spin weld on the hosels. They get two things. a stronger neck and they can compress the forge at a higher tonnage. They end up feeling denser and the heads are more beefed where it really counts.  Only builder that does this. Does it matter, dunno, but Toyota & BMW remained class leaders for a long time just by addressing basic things like chassis strength in a better manner, so i see Miura's methodology in same light.

Weird take man, we can't feel empathetic for the Miura family just because Joe Bob at the local muni hasn't heard of them? Natural causes or not it still sucks to see even though it's going to eventually happen to everyone.

All my takes are weird dude. It's because I'm a "weird dude." I do apologize.

But, if you cut me some slack, you may find that I'm somewhat amusing...

I also think you will find that I acknowledged empathy, feeling, and condolences for those directly impacted by the passing in the first line of my post. This wasn't directed towards those people.

If we expand my comment out to a wider cultural level, you may find that I am - ultimately - criticizing the "cult of celebrity" that currently infects our society.

For many decades, Miura-San creations epitomized the art of golf club forging.   He often  hand ground the final product in search of perfection.  With the K Grind wedges, he personally hand ground the knuckles on every head.   I feel a little sad for anyone who has never experienced the intensity and dedication of such Japanese artisans to their craftsmanship whether they be sword makers, club makers, or those who design masterful Japanese gardens.  For them it is a Zen-like dedication and respect for their heritage.  His sons will undoubtedly carry on the Miura traditions. RIP Miura-San.

Sorry dude, bad take.

It’s an opinion.  It’s not right or wrong.  It’s your opinion and you are entitled to it.  Just like people can have an opinion of your opinion.

It’s incorrect, unpopular and quite ridiculous actually. You’re right about one thing we will all die and hopefully people care so much when we do. Being honest here your need to post what you did is kinda shocking.

Unpopular and ridiculous I can handle. You are going to have to work a bit more to prove the "incorrect."

If it’s a true opinion, then it’s entirely subjective and there isn’t factual evidence to prove it’s right or wrong.

We all have these stories, so here is mine.

I had a set of PP-9003 Passing Point Straight neck heads, brand new, bought when Chip Usher was closing them out for great prices.  Being the Gman that I am, I didn't use them much, and eventually sold them.  HUGE regret!  So beautiful, and the feel of a good strike was the best in my 40+ year golf career.
