Ventus velocore plus blue

Recommended Posts

Wondering if anyone has any experience playing this shaft.  I am currently looking at ordering one via my PUD program in either a 6s or 6x.  I am unable to test them locally (would have to travel a few hours).  My current swing speed is about 107 average (when warm), and I have a medium tempo I would say.  Also hit the ball relatively low with driver (around 75-80 feet).

Is there anyone who is playing this shaft around my speed?  Looking for suggestions as to whether to go 6s or 6x.

Thx

I currently play the 6x and it's a great shaft. Very smooth feel. I am feeling my age so I'm trying a 6s.  The x is a nice mid flight and I can play my preferred cut with ease.  My SS is a tad slower than you but I do pull the handle. Another thing with Fuji, at least for me, it's a very straight ball flt when I want and as mentioned, cuts on command. Nice and stable.

You might move this to the tech forum for more traffic. There a couple velo+ recent threads too.

Been playing Blue+ in 6S in driver since it was released, love it. My ss is 105 with driver. Very smooth shaft, hard to explain but it feels smooth through the swing. I could probably move into a 6X but I like that I don’t have to step on the 6S.

I’m in the same boat as you and would split the difference and get a 6S tipped 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. That’s what I did with my Ventus Red Velocore+ 6S (I tipped it 3/4”). With your lower ball flight, tipping a 6S should help a little bit with trajectory and peak height compared to a 6X. Doing the same thing in the Red would likely buy you just that little bit extra in trajectory as well.

My brother is 110 ss and he has the Velo+ 6x and loves it.  He's been playing that high fade that apexes out at 100-120 feet with low spin. His transition is moderate.  Velo+ blue is similar to DG profile but with a slightly softer mid.  If you like that profile, then it may work well for you.  It's also on the smoother side.  My personal experience is that it has too much kick for me in the mid and prone to the lefts if I get too quick.  Then again and numbers aside, I've never loved the feel of any of the Ventus line either.

Is the tr blue softer compared to the new Ventus black+?

Just got fitted for this shaft (6x) paired with a G440LST. SS average of 117 and it was between this and the VF in a G440 MAX and this shaft just allowed me to feel the load and unload better. I’m coming off playing an Oban Kiyoshi black in a SIM head, and the action feels pretty similar to the Oban. Shaft was a lot more accurate for me compared to the VF, probably because the VF felt a little more stout and thus I felt like I had to work to flex it more. Tipping a half inch to bring the ballflight down a smidge, but overall the spin numbers were perfect.

Yes.  Velo+ black has a stiffer handle and feels more linear overall.  The mid in the Velo+ black feels a little stiffer than TR blue as well.

Before making the switch to the Diamana BB, I had a VF as well and like it better than the Velo+ blue because it feels more linear/stout.  I've actually had the VF in my bag since it's release which is unheard of because I go through driver shafts like I go through boxers.  On the contrary, my brother feels the same way about the VF that you do.  He has one as well and says it feels like too much work to get it load properly which is why he switched over to the Velo+ blue which he absolutely loves.  He launches it a mile high but with low spin so it works.  As far as tipping goes, it will make the shaft feel different and possibly lower spin, but unlikely to bring ball flight down unless it changes your strike location.

Makes sense! Yes, we're tipping half an inch because my hits tend to be high up on the face/toe. Just trying to bring those down a smidge.

Same here.  I always tip my driver shafts 1/2 to full inch depending on how soft/stiff the tip is and where my strike location tends to be.  Good move on your part.

What flex do you currently play and how does it feel? I find Ventus blue to feel pretty smooth, and a little soft. I wouldn’t be worried about the 6X being too stiff. I swing 110 and have a Ventus Blue+ 7X (untipped) in my 3 wood and it is too soft for my liking.

Currently I play an ACCRA Tz5 x stiff (I think M5 by the way they label it).  I am finding it to be a bit too stout.  Also hitting driver somewhat low at approx 65-75 feet

If you’re hitting it too low, the best way to solve that (with equipment) is simply more loft on your driver. Otherwise Ventus Red could in theory help you deliver some more loft at impact.

I'd say go 6s a half inch long. play it untipped with a 6s first then tip it a half inch if it still feels too soft.

IME i played the 6X tipped half an inch at 118ss. im guessing 112ss would be perfect for untipped x. 106ss for a half tipped s.

Hopefully not derailing the thread, but this statement has me curious:  what are the rules of thumb for tipping with respect to strike location?

Am I correct to think tipping will generally lessen the amount of toe/shaft droop, thereby bringing strike location lower on the face?

I think you are correct.  After getting some trackman numbers this evening here are my avg results with my current  9 degree GT2 driver (lofted up to 9.75 with an accra tz5 x stiff shaft:

Club speed: 108 mph

Launch angle : 8.3 degrees

Spin rate: 1450 rpm

Peak height : 15 yards

This was a huge eye-opener.  There is a swing issue at play, no doubt.  I deloft the club actually too much and am 1–2 degrees down on driver.  Don't hate the angle of attack part but the dynamic loft part is an issue... not getting to my lead side enough.

Anyway, as a bit of a band aid, I'm thinking of buying another 10.5 degree head so that I can have some wiggle room for the time being. I think I may go with a ventus velocore plus blue in 6x or even the red in 6x.  Hopefully this brings launch up to close to 10 degrees and peak height closer to at least 75 feet.

Has anyone had experience with the red velocore plus 6x?

Yeah, definitely a delivery issue. Need to get that AOA atleast a degree or two positive with driver. Spin is way too low as well. If you’re launching it that low you actually want spin up near 3000 to keep the ball in the air.

You’re leaving a TON of yards on the table.

i haven’t hit the Velocore Plus Red but I have a TR red 6X that I gamed for most of last year. It’s a good feeling shaft. The stiff handle section actually makes the red feel more stable in your hands than the blue.

My AOA is 7-8* UP on driver so I don’t need a shaft that adds any dynamic loft. I had a high right miss with the TR red so I moved back to a lower launch shaft this year.

With your delivery, the Ventus red profile would be a good fit.

I’m a smooth swinger with driver ss around 106 and the Ventus Red Velocore + 6S (tipped .75”)/DS-Adapt LS 10.5° and Graphite Design Tour AD-IZ 6S (tipped 1”)/10.5° QI35 LS turned down to 9.5° have been amazing for me. My AOA is neutral to 3° up. I’m getting better at maintaining that 2 to 3° angle of attack up and that has helped a lot, along with making sure my driver has enough loft present at address.

Agree with this.  I tried using TR Red & Red to help with loft and it just didn't quite work as intended.  Ended up going with Ventus Black + 11 Degree lofted head.  I've really grown to like this setup now because I can tee it high for attempted bombs or tee it low for "fairway finders"
