Nippon 880 AMC vs AMT - Any comparisons?

I am considering a set of Titleist used irons and am intrigued by the Nippon 880 AMC shafts? Has anyone compared the Nippon 880 ascending mass steel shafts (prevalent in Japanese sets) vs. the AMT Reds (prevalent in the US)?

I've played both in the past, and now playing Ping AWT 2.0 in i230's. The Nippon 880 AMC is about as smooth as they get. The AMT red is ok but not the same as the Nippons. My vote would be the 880 AMC. And as a FREE up grade thru Titleist you can't go wrong.

Have not tested Nippon 880 AMC shafts, they are no longer offered. However, I had sets of AMT White, they came stock in my T100, 3i-PW. Played them for a month or so, to see, wasn't impressed so they were pulled.

I suspect Titleist's AMT line came about from Nippon 880 AMC line, which "allegedly" was made for Titleist. I don't normally get along with AM shafts, can't say exactly why. Nevertheless, over my golf life I've enjoyed playing two sets of AM shafts, PX Flighted 6.0 stiff steel, and Tensei AV White Am2 stiff composite. Having the right weight and bend has been key.

Are Ping AWT the same? I understand those to be made by Nippon as well.

The Ping AWT's are made by Nippon for Ping, but is not the same as the 880 AMC Chrome made for Titleist.

The 880 AMC is an "interesting" shaft in the world of the ascending mass shafts available. The weight ascends by 3g each from the #4 through the #8 (95g-107g), but then remains constant at 107g in the #9 (37.5"), PW (37.25"), and Wedge shafts (37.0"). It's a typical smooth feeling Nippon shaft.

The other options, like the Ping AWT (made by Nippon) and the TT AMT shafts, are ascending weight throughout the available lengths, but differ in their weight increments. The AWT 2.0 shafts increment by 2.1g (cut shaft weight), while most AMT shafts use 3.0g increments.

I play mostly the AWT shafts in my sets, but I also have two sets of the AMT (one white and one black) and 3 sets of the 880 AMC). I've found that the real key is the final build and how the weight is ultimately distributed along the club. I use MOI matched sets and the ascending weight shafts make building MOI matched sets easier when using typical iron heads that are available for swingweight matched clubs.

Is there much of a difference in feel between the Titleist 880 AMC and the Ping AWT 2.0?

If you were to compare flex to flex between the 880 AMC vs Ping AWT vs Modus 105 or NS 950gh NEO, would they all be in the same ballpark?

I hit a friends 880 AMC many years ago, and I was playing DG X100’s at the time, so they felt light and soft, but I really didn’t have any reference point at the time other than DG X100, DG S300 or PX 6.0’s, now I much prefer the softer flex and lighter weight shaft…… if I were to say what I like best, it’s the DG Mid 100 S300 or the PX IO 5.5 ss/x1

I’ve seen a few threads on the Ping AWT 2.0 vs Modus 105 and you get opposing views, some say the Modus feels stiffer than the Ping AWT, some say the Modus feels softer, while others compare the Ping AWT to an ascending weight version of a 950gh NEO or 1050 if there was such a thing
