Changing club lengths to senior specs

I am finding that my PW does not go the distance that I was used to getting when younger. After trying different methods I decided to start the sand wedge at 36" and go from there. From sw to pw I lengthen it a 1/4", then 3/8" from there to a 6 iron. I find this helps significantly with distance and control as I am not swinging as hard. I would rather play this way than one length. It takes some work to set it up, but not too bad. Shaft inserts, grips, and some time are required. I have now done 4 sets of irons and plan to play tomorrow with the Stealth HD, next week the QI10. Will report on my findings tomorrow. I checked the specs mon the QI10 as set up by PGA Superstore and they were a 1/2" short, and I asked for 1/2" longer, go figure. That now is fixed.

I clamp the length down a little bit at the shorter end of the clubs but have left the rest alone. I loose control and accuracy with the mid and longer irons if I try to lengthen them. I even cut down all my hybrids. But that's me. You need to continue your own quest to find what works best for you. Good luck with the journey.

What's the purpose of having four different iron sets that you're making changes to and playing with? I think it would be a nightmare trying to get any consistency swapping out different sets all the time.

Just for the fun of it. I did okay yesterday with the Stealth HD but will try the QI10 next week.

Hit the QI10 SW and AW in the yard and they felt so solid and straight. I am impressed so far. Get a real test when the clouds decide to give it a break. I have noticed a tendency to hit some big divots with the wedges, but the flight is perfect, even got a birdie with one.

I play PW, GW, SW, LW all at the same length. I have long arms and very long legs. I hated reaching down for those short irons. I hit them much better at the longer lengths. I also use all my hybrids, 5,6,7 and 8 at the same length as the corresponding iron. Much easier to control.

I have 2 sets of the wedges set up this way.

Played 18 Monday and really enjoy the extra power from the wedges and irons. I feel it is very successful the changes made and would never go back to the old lengths. Just need to realize they will go longer.
