They are DBM. Sometimes it's hard to get the full "blackness" in a photo. 🙂

As far as a blade adjacent club for the OP.  I know it’s more of a hollow body type club, but there is none in that category that will be as compact and blade looking as the Ping i59 with more traditional lofts.  They weren’t a big seller for Ping due to hefty price tag and the Ping i230 stealing its thunder, but they are great looking, great feeling and reasonably priced online

The DBM color is more of a really dark gray, than it is "black".  It looks and performs really well

PXG 0317T VERY forgiving for a small blade like package. Tungsten weights and hollow construction.

Just curious, have you hit the 0317ST's and if so how would you compare them?

I have a DBM 5i in the OG model, the finish holds up second to none as far as black irons go IMHO

it just looked like a gun metal color in the photo

im contemplating getting a new set of irons. Looking at a few sets

Maltby TS4

New Level 702 CB

Ping s55

Ping s59

i have a Ping s59 6 iron coming in to test if the CS lite is a fit

I I know I can get a set in a Steelfiber i95R which I like or the DG Mid 100 S ss/x1 which I love, but I haven’t tried the 950gh NEO or the CS lite yet, both are cheaper options, but if they don’t work for me, I’ll just spend the extra money for the DG Mid 100’s or Steelfibers

I feel like the OP and I are looking for much the same thing

i currently play Mizuno HMB’s with SF i110r’s, but not satisfied with the head, the shaft is ok, but prefer the i95r’s now

I have, and honestly was very surprised how forgiving they were. I wasn’t expecting that in such a small package. To me they were very close to the P’s as far as forgiveness goes.

A few mms of difference is discernible to many players and is often a go or no go item in what people buy. Even in that picture it's obvious on both, and it's more noticeable when looking down on either from top or bottom in pictures and in person. In regards to differences in the sole it, can certainly affect turf interaction.

If it doesn't bother you or you don't have a preference either way then kudos, but the thread is specifically about thin/small heads that are still forgiving and most don't see either of the 3D sets from Cobra in that way, on top of them being both wider and longer than what typically falls into the blade footprints even if they pass the eyeball test for some, and on top of them being $3k.

I didn't quote you, I simply commented on someone else's response as to why the 3D irons don't fit the OP's ask so not sure why you want to make a thing out of it. If you want to go around about it then enjoy, I'm not going to argue it any further.

I fully understand that individuals want what they want. I have played blades for much of my golfing life and I like a certain look in the clubhead too. I just didn't see a significant difference based on what I have played in the past (including much older Wilson Staff blades). TBH, I was a bit put off by the post that said the Cobra 3D head was simply a P790 (not your post). I've hit both heads and the Cobra gives me far more consistent distance control than the TM and just feels more solid and blade-like.

To each their own though.

I mentioned the 3dp is like a p790, and they are more similar than they are different.  Both of these irons fit the same demographic.   A player looking for a single piece cavity or muscle back isn’t going to be the same demographic looking at these irons in anything under a 6 iron.

both hollow, both have lofts nearly a club strong compared to traditional 34  degree 7 iron.  Both are aimed at players who want increased height, ballspeed, distance, and forgiveness across the face.  They are also lower spinning

the 3dp are smaller, have a lower cg, less offset, and a lattice support system inside the hollow core.  They are the lower spinning of the two loft for loft, and subjectively players like the feel/sound better

the current p790 is larger, with more offset, and has a speed foam goo filling thr hollow core.  The current model will spin more loft for loft than the 3dp.  Subjectively people prefer the sound and feel less than the 3dp.

Looking forward to reading your review. Essentially the playability and forgiveness of the P irons with even better sound/feel. Not sure how they put that much performance in such a small package but they did it.

Yeh for the last few weeks for whatever reason I'd been thinking about trying a smaller profile iron. Been hitting the P/XP's since Gen 3. Will probably be a club shorter with the 5* loft difference but that's okay. It's just a number on a club. Had them built 1/2" longer though to match the length of the XP's I've been playing for 4 years.

I'll be sure and post a review after a couple of rounds though.

Well as expected Fed Ex continues to just suck, they are horrible. So the original delivery date was today ( Friday ) between 9am and 1pm. Now the new delivery date is Monday between 11:45 and 4:45.

I'll be lucky if they show up by the end of June, Lol.

I understand your viewpoint. However, I viewed the "3D printed" Cobra irons as something completely different than the other hollow body irons. Prior to the Limit3d/3DP, hollow irons all promoted a "spring" face" for those seeking more distance. I am not that guy. I have played blades (primarily Mizuno, Wilson, Titleist and Cobra) with composite shafts for many years. I hover around a 6, am 62 yrs old and have pretty decent CHS. The ONLY "help" I ever wanted from my clubs was in the order of dispersion. The only problem was every club with a higher MOI had all kinds of other crap that I didn't want. I THOUGHT the hollow blade-looking irons were the answer but every one I tried gave me terrible distance control due to the spring face.

The Cobra design with the internal lattice promised, and delivered, a solid feeling face with considerably higher MOI AND THAT'S IT! No more offset than my blades, no bouncy cambered wide sole, no massive long head and no spring face. I have been playing them now for almost a year and have much more consistent scores than I ever have. The one thing I wasn't wild about was the stronger lofts in the long irons. However, I have found my distances and trajectory with those clubs has stayed about the same as it is with my blades on good strikes. Best I can figure is the loft adjustment was to balance out the lower VCoG to hit the proper launch window.

I have no regrets about buying these irons and the one thing I know for a fact is they are NOT like any other hollow iron.

Take a look at this. More forgiving on toe and heel strikes than P790. Pretty impressive!
