Removing Sky Marks off 3-wood

Hi everyone,

unfortuantely have a bit of a sky mark on my ping g430 max 3 wood. Was wondering what the best way to remove it would be without damaging the head or affecting the matte finish of the crown too much.

I sent a club to be refinished to www.continentalgolf.net a few years ago. Did it in the winter because it'll take a bit, think it was around 5 or 6 week turnaround. They did a nice job and were nice to work with.

I've put skymarks on a couple clubs over the years, it really ruins your day. Although not a permanent solution, I do my best to fill them in with a sharpie about the same color. All you can hope for is that it's enough so that you can't see the scratches when the club is down in back of the ball. Could at least get you through to winter when you could send it to Continental.

I no longer buy low profile hybrids or fairway woods, obviously I'm not talented enough.

You could try a little shoe polish, it may cover the mark. This will get you through the season and then you can get it refinished.

The little paint pens at Ace work well. I filled in a sky mark on my fav hybrid, a white TM RBZ and you have to look hard to see it at address. It’s a lot cheaper than a refinish. I also consider that it won’t be the last time I put an idiot mark on a wood or hybrid.😂

If it is just golf ball…and no sand scuff, you might be able to lightly use a magic eraser. I’ve been successful before, but too hard and it can beat it up.

also have used turtle wax/equivalent on shiny crown clubs with success. I bought a 3 wood from callaway preowned (which is sight unseen) and I I cleaned the crap out of it with a drill, buffing pad and the wax

There was a time when a skymark would essentially ruin a club for me. However, now I've come around on them. I look at them with honesty now. They are a reminder that I'm not as good as I would like to be.

It takes a degree of acceptance to look at them, and honestly say to yourself "I did that."

It's also a reminder before your shot to not get too steep. And on a positive note, skymarks allow you to swing freely because you are no longer afraid to put a skymark on your clubbed.

All in all, I see skymarks as a part of the game. You have to accept the good with the bad and embrace truth and honesty when it comes to your strengths and weaknesses.

If you can feel the skymark with your fingernail you're pretty much relegated to having it refinished if you want it pristine. If your ok with kind of looking at it, the repairs above apply. Try the easy methods listed above. If those don't work I found that testors flat black is a match to ping woods. I picked it up at hobby lobby. I repaired a g400 that way and it looked brand new. Just don't paint over the carbon.

I would advise against using a magic marker with a matte club. While it may get rid of a sky mark, it also get's rid of the matte finish and makes it shiny.
