From the back they remind me somewhat of the ie1 irons. I personally like the look of the 240’s. My pre-order is in and I can’t wait to hit them. Ping rarely disappoints…

Now confirmed, will be available for fitting in early July, shipping late July/early August.

 

Apparently the feedback from Hovland has been very positive - probably an entire department dedicated to get him out of i210's at this point 😀

Thought exactly the same thing.  I had a set of these and regret selling them.  Such consistent irons.

 

If I hadn't just bought a set of 925 Forged I would definitely be testing these.  Love the slightly more angular look than the normally rounded i2xx models.

I don't like it, but it can be fixed by some nail polish remover, paint or aluminum tape.  The font is fine, and  I really like the look at address, so that goes a long way for me.

The Ei series for Ping, if I recall correctly, was one of the least successful irons for them and pretty quickly replaced.

 

Not sure why they would choose to base a new line off of them.

This isnt a new line though and these arent based off the Ei series as far as I know. The i2xx series has been strong from Ping over the last few years. This is building off of those.

Since they have a release date, do they have any specs; will there be any loft changes from the i230? Assuming AWT 3.0 is their main stock shaft. 

Really hoping for no hydro pearl, I love the option of ping refinishing their irons.

I understand people wanting to like what they're looking at.  For me, that begins & ends with "What it looks like at address."   Period.  

The main issue I've had with i230 is the abundance of spin that leaves me short of my expected yardage by like 6-10 yards. At the same time I love it's stopping power.

 

They seemed to have addressed that by diminishing the number of grooves (though I imagine too much).

 

Secondly, I hope they can move the sweet spot a little more to the toe and soften the lead edge a bit. Not keen on carbon, but I won't stop me to getting them if all the boxes above are checked.

The red paint has a higher MOI, and helps square the face, especially for those that struggle with a left miss.  The carbon fiber has a dampening effect and despite being on the back of the club, helps mitigate the reduced friction resulting from grass or debris between the ball and face.  This was required due to the reduction in grooves from the i230 to i240 which some players felt made the i230 spin too much.

 

The engineers at Ping have left no stone unturned.

Does PING still make a custom SW for Lee?  I recall reading something about how they made him a 54* SW out of a U wedge since they stopped making a set SW, maybe in the i20s.  Not something I'd want to game, just interesting.

I just saw VH at a Mastercard event at TPC Boston this past Monday and asked him if he hit the I240s.
 

He has and said they flight too high for his liking.

My take (which means nothing): Ping is zigging while the market zags. TM/Titleist/Mizuno are trying to hide the tech behind a sleek look (a lot of silver and minimal badging). Ping is trying to show their tech on this iron. Time will tell if that is a good thing. 

 

The I series has found itself in a unique category - emphasizing forgiveness and playability without distance tech or low spin tech. It feels like a category that used to be larger, but has shrunk due to other competitors leaning into enhanced ball speeds, higher launch, and lower spin. 

 

I'll probably buy these. I obviously don't care what my stuff looks like since I putt with a friggin' Jailbird; and if these provide better performance than the i230's without the annoying micro-grooves, I'll give them a shot. Based on 17 pages of feedback, I might be the only buyer. 😅

First time I saw them, I about puked. But man, they look good here... I still think the i210 is the "prettiest" release in recent years, but these definitely aren't bad.

Non-functional decorative carbon fiber plaque glued into the cavity is like those "TURBO" decals for the back of your you can buy at the car wash gift shop.

Maybe, but if so, why did they stop making them?  I suspect that most of us want custom grinds and a classic look in our lower wedges...they probably had a lot of SW i20s laying around.
