New Ping i240 irons - 2025 Memorial

Recommended Posts

All this talk about the looks of this new iron cracks me up.

I just went back to my 230s after a stint with Apex TCBs and I’m very happy. 230s launch a bit higher for the loft and spin a bit less on a launch monitor. They feel almost as good and are way more forgiving. People can hate on the bounce but it works for me and I hit cleaner shots and fewer fat shots compared to my TCB. Even though I delofted the TCB 2 degrees the 230s are at least a 1/2 club longer.

Played the 210 before. I’m curious about the 240s but I’m not going to order site unseen like i did the 230. The 230 has plenty of perimeter weighting with the tungsten. Can’t see how the carbon is going to be a game changer.

Here comes the "these were so underrated when they were current models"… again.

How I picture those whining excessively about the look...

This is a conversational forum where new products are introduced and people give their opinion.  Nobody is ranting and raving and screaming at the screen.  They're just giving their thoughts.

Does this look like a premium product?  (The iron looks like I made it in my garage)

PING charges $1350 for a 7-iron set of i230.  It will be at LEAST that for the i240.

Some in this thread will say "who cares what it looks like?"  You could say that about anything in life.

That’s a really blurry pic and there are many higher resolution ones to see. For me, I could care less what the cavity of a golf club looks like. The ONLY esthetic I care about is how does it look at address. From there if it performs and sounds and feels good that’s all that matters.

Yeah my pic above is from this forum.  But YOUR pic is definitely better.  I'll check them out in person when they're released and make a final call.

I played some of my best golf with PING i20's with DG X100 in them about 20 years ago.  Maybe they'll look great in person.

Does this have anything to do with the "Irons TBD" placeholder in your signature?

🙂

Regardless I think the i240 release is imminent.  i230 irons cannot be ordered any longer.

Also, I will order a set of i240s and see how to peel or cut off the carbon fiber, if possible.

Aluminum HVAC duct repair tape would honestly look better there in lieu of the carbon fiber.

I would like to think it’s an intentional ironic ugly that they were going for, but sadly it’s not.

I could be wrong but I don't think it's possible as I had the same thought.  The entire 50% upper part of the cavity is one badge from what I've seen.

When should we expect to hear the tech behind the irons?

Not sure if you are looking for more details but I was told by a local ping rep that the carbon is "cosmetic only." Seems very off-brand for Ping but I guess we'll see if they have an official justification beyond looks when they officially get announced

Really? I would be surprised by that. I assume its weight savings related but I guess we won't really be able to tell if it's an "improvement" until we get numbers on it.

I wish Ping would just take the BPS and increase the blade length, sole, topline and offset proportionally. And probably a 31 degree 7i. That would be enough to differentiate it from the BPS while still giving a premium look & feel. Similar to T100/T150 and ZXi5/ZXi7. Both of which seem like smashing success stories.

Hopefully that’s what the i240 will be.

My guess is that it's just a badge glued on like the current i230. Might they try to market a smidge of weight savings? Maybe. But I think it's pretty irrelevant where it's at. I think it's for shelf appeal. One could argue the i230's look pretty boring on the shelf. Problem is, this carbon look isn't moving the needle in the right direction. People in this category want feel & performance, save the flash for the SGI market.

Yeah, it seems like they don't quite know who the target audience is. Can't believe they made the Blueprint S, which I think look awesome, and then made this design choice.

These are going to be amazing.... the only AP2 type iron left...

I hope you're right. I've loved the i series dating back to the i3/i3+, even Eye2. Played the i5s for almost 11 years before the hosel and tip started bending.

I've always liked the progressive non-combo combo design the i series offered, with weaker lofts. I don't want a 30º 7 iron, and I don't think the i series fit into the player's distance category; never have. That's the realm of the i530.

The AP2s were awesome, and I'm unsure if the T150s are an equivalent replacement and it feels to me like Titleist is going smaller and smaller with their T100 and T150 lines these days, not to mention a 44º PW (not terrible, and I'm sure they can be bent weak for gapping). It's why I always look to the Ping i series, or combo the ZXi7 and ZXi5s together.

They have a very hard time with marketing the I-series. It needs to look different. Different target market for those that don't read these forums.
