Few people saying he wouldn’t win the open. Those posts aged well 🤣

Crazy stat from broadcast. It took Tiger and Scottie the exact same number of days from major one to major five. Something like 1,197 days. Let’s see if Scottie can now be on the Tiger prime trajectory of major wins.

Once again, he likely won't, because Tiger did that when he was about 6 years younger. I REALLY wish people would keep ignoring his actual age (tho mea culpa here when my dyslexic brain made me think he was a year older than he actually was).

I guessed 10 but there’s no way to know how long he will keep his current level. i

There have been quite a few in

myntime who were great, but couldn’t keep it going for more than a couple  of years.

What I think speaks in favor Scottie is that there’s no superficial magic to his game. It is just very solid from tee to green. He doesn’t hit shots that others aren’t capable of (like Tiger did). He does not look like a magician around and on the green (Tiger, Phil, Spieth, Sevie).

He hits a lot of great shots, though. They look quite similar to his playing partners’. But his tend to be a little bit better. He just has these incredible tools that could keep him on top for many years if he stays hungry.

The guy has a great attitude and head for the game.  Great family support. Physically his swing looks effortless and not as taxing on the body as many of his peers. Supreme ball striker, Great hands around the green and he has worked his way to being an elite putter. The bounce back stat says volumes. Clutch. I think Jack may be the best comparison (I can't believe I said that!)

If he stays hungry to compete I can see 10. Maybe more. He is just so consistent that he basically shows up and contends every week.  It makes you wonder what the season tally would look like if not for the hand injury over the holidays.

Agree. All depends how the longevity goes. Hard not to see him knocking off 5 in the next 5 years though.

Same type of things were said about Rory. How long did he just go between majors? 11 years. You never know when it could be a players last win. Major or not. Recency bias strikes again.

I reckon 10, I’ve said all along he’s a good player and doesn’t get the credit he deserves from some people. I don’t think he’ll be as dominant as tiger or Jack purely because he was older than them when he started winning, but I also don’t see anyone on his level to challenge him. Certainly not Rory, yes he’s won the masters but he’s thrown away so many chances over the years to be on more than five majors. I would’ve said Koepka once upon time, but the injury and LIV seems to have hampered his game - didn’t even hear his name once all week, was surprised to see he actually played.

yup, but worth noting Scottie is playing at a much higher level than Rory or anyone other than Tiger.

OWGR average of 20!

He's on track to rack up many more. He might fall victim to something similar that tiger did, where he inspired a generation of athletic guys with a particular power, who ended up eating up majors. There might be a new crop of players modeled after scottie. Could be a jackson koivon, miles russel, ben james, who knows

On the flip side tiger had the body of a 55 year old by the time he was in his mid 30s. All but 1 of his majors was won by the time he was 34. Imagine the number he'd have got to if his leg/spine/divorce scandal hadn't hindered him

So if Scotty can remain healthy his career is likely going to be longer

I don't think he'll make 15 however. I reckon he may get 10 if he has the motivation to keep practicing

^^^^This.

He could win 12ish.

But after what he said in his press conference before the Open, he could also retire once he has the career Grand Slam and just be a dad.

Rory always had holes in his game. Scheffler doesn't.

This week for example, Rory chipped an putted as well or maybe better than I have ever seen him (at least in a Major). And what happens? He loses his ability with the driver (relatively speaking).

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

Too early for the Tiger / Jack discussion but it's hard not to think Scheffler wins a few more over the next couple years.

You can't predict when the next truly elite talent or two pops up and starts winning some majors. The potential golf ball change looms large too. It's hard not to think there will be winners and losers when that happens.

Exactly. Remember when Will Z came on and everyone thought he would be lights out after his masters performance. Well putting yips and injuries have quickly derailed that. It can happen so fast.

I set the line at 6.5 when he won the PGA and was skeptical about him getting an Open. But after yesterday it might be time to readjust. He plays Augusta so much better then anyone else and a bad putting week is the only way he doesn't contend. I think he's gonna win one of the next 3 US Opens. Scottie can absolutely dissect a place like Shinnecock or Winged Foot.  I'd say his final major tally will be 9: Masters - 4, PGA - 2, US Open - 1, Open - 2. I think he's gonna have a really good chance at Birkdale next year as well.

If you are trying to complete the career grand slam, would you rather it be:

1. Like Rory with the Masters as the final trophy?

2. Like Scottie with the US Open as the final trophy?

Good to see Scottie working on his on course and celebration charisma. Still needs work.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

Definitely 2. Shinnecock, Pebble, and Winged Foot are vastly different courses. If Scottie doesn't win at Shinnecock, it has very little bearing on Pebble
