Callaway Elyte Sky Mark

I've got the Callaway Elyte Driver. Last night out on the 16th hole in a match play comp, I teed it too high, my foot slipped in the rain partnered with me trying to hit it off the planet and I skied it for probably the first time in 20 years. The initial white marks from the ball have rubbed off but it's left these shiny marks which I just don't think are going to go away. I've tried just rubbing them away with a cloth, I've tried with a standard pink eraser on the back of a pencil to create a bit of friction. No joy. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to try? Beyond hitting the clubface next time. Thanks in advance.

Magic eraser and or some light polishing compound.

Anything abrasive like a Magic Eraser or polishing compound will just make the marks even shinier and more noticeable. Once a matte finish gets shiny, that's it. Gloss finishes are much more forgiving in that respect.

Yes, this is what I was thinking too. It feels like I might have to live with this one!

Maybe some painter tape and matte clear auto clear coat one easy spray on a freshly alcohol clean surface. Once cured and perfectly dry, then could use a light rubbing compound to blend. Just be sure the tape lines are good and you mask off the panels that you don’t want to receive the matte clear. This is probably how I would go if it bothered me too much… for a few hours and maybe 9bucks in a can of spray matte clear.

Already some good advice here. I wanted to mention that I used a magic eraser on my G430 and it completely removed the matte finish. It really hurt me, so I went down the path of trying to fix it. I found that if you find a good matte clear coat, you can just tape up the face and certain parts of the club you don't want/need the coating to hit, and just spray a light coat and it will make it look completely new.

The other issue is that if you continue to get sky marks they will wear down the clearcoat as well, but it lasts for quite a while. I just see it as maintenance, no different than deep cleaning a club. It takes no more than a few minutes tops. Most of the time you'll just be shaking the paint can to make sure it's mixed well. I tried a couple of different brands, but found glidden to be the best so far. The problem with "matte" finishes is that some aren't truly Matte, more like satin. Then you need one that is durable and won't come off after one mishit. Rust-oleum was not so good in that regard. It was a bit shiny and wasn't super durable.

This is the one I found at home depot that works pretty well so far. Either way, what you've experienced is definitely one of the downsides of a matte finish. I've found that shafts that are matte finish get wear/shiny spots too from friction taking the club in and out of the golf bag.

If you care to go down this path, regular maintenance like this will make it look brand new.
