Tour Callaway Opus SP prototype wedges - 2025 Memorial

I’ve been playing the raw Opus and I feel that they are the best feeling wedge out there. I tired them all and it has such a clean click when hit compared to the TM’s and Cleveland’s.  Tied or slightly more appealing sound than the Vokey. Shaping could be better.  I feel like they are bringing the cost of manufacturing the wedge down while upping the MSRP.  I’d be interested in trying the new one. Remember callaway next days ships for free when you order the raw custom versions.

Problem with Callaway’s raw offerings is the loft/grind options are always so limited. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I agree. I really like the Raw Opus. Also curious about the Opus SP if they do a raw release in it.

MD2 T-grind. 

 

Still have them in the 56°, 58°, and 60°, and the 58° is in the regular bag.

 

The S-grind 54° is also in the bag.

My hunch is that Gen 1 Opus was a bit of stinker for sales volume; would explain why the product cycle is being cut about 6 months short.

They are pretty good. I have them, and while I dont play them currently. I liked them.

I did too and thought they were a step in the right direction after stuff like Jaws Raw.

I don’t imagine they sold very well at that price point.  The technical aspect of them works really well for me keeping flight down.  

 

The like new options on CPO are a very nice. Most still in factory plastic.

Wasn’t the Opus Roger Cleveland’s last designed wedge for Cally?

They were performed well and felt nicer than any recent cally offerings.  They looked odd down by the ball

On Johnny Wunder’s Fully Equipped podcast with Max Greyersman, Max — a very likable player who is a true gearhead — says the new Opus SP is the best wedge Callaway has ever made. Just a quick mention but I thought it was noteworthy. Great interview with Max as he is awaiting his flight overseas to the Scottish Open. He also mentions the X Forged irons he is playing — he switched from

the TCBs — are coming to retail soon.

New shape looks a little better to my eye. Not a huge fan of the original Opus curved leading edge.

 

I really liked the shape of the MD2-T also. I think the Mack Daddy Forged wedges were really close to them as well. @callaway please bust out the old molds and reproduce.

That interview is why I jumped back into this thread to see if there were any updates. I'd love a Callaway wedge that even remotely matched the shaping of their irons, but they decided on this huge teardrop with groves offset towards the hosel that just does not work for me at the ball.

I have not played Callaway wedges in a while. Did not care for the shape of the og Opus. Is that the one you’re talking about?

 

I have to think the Opus SP is coming to retail sooner than later if the pros are giving it rave reviews. I think it looks really good and I would give one a go.
