RIP Lamkin OG Grips

Recommended Posts

Lamkin as we know it has over the last few weeks began the change. For about 1yr after Superstroke acquisition the stock seemed normal, but now all grips are dwindling/on sale/not being restocked.

As a lamkin user my whole life this is a huge blow! Anyone else as bummed as me and stocking up?

Grips like OG Crossline, Crossline Cord, UTx and Sonar will all gone here soon & replaced with the “Superstroke REVL” variant..

1) Crossline 2.0 and Crossline Cord 2.0 look more like a 360 texture pattern with a clearly different taper. The cord grip looks off to me.

2) REVL Player and Element are a take on UTX but the Element (cord) versions do not have cord in the bottom hand.
3) Sonar grips and compounds are fully phased out w/ the new wrap being more UTX patterned.

4) REVL deep deep etched cord putter seems to use a different cord maybe more like the UTX style.

I have a hard time believing these will be any more popular than the current line of S Tech grips (seemingly only used by those paid to do so). For those interested, Texomagolf has all these new models listed.

Yeah not looking good for Lamkin lovers. The REVL player grips look like rebadged R.E.L. grips from years ago.

Such a shame, I stocked up on some Crossline and Crossline cords. I have no idea why Superstroke had to go change all of the grips but I guess I'll have to find a different brand after my stock runs out.

Superstroke I’m sure will let them keep making lamkin products for JRose and Finau but this is a pretty day to say least.

I’m shocked they just didn’t change the branding once the most recent lamkin molds needed replacement. Bummer.

Looks like i should stock up on the crossline plus wrap then too. They can be kind of inconsistent with the depth on the wrap, but they have been great and I only have a few spares left. I can't imagine they sell a ton of them.

I wonder if golfworks will keep ordering them.

Clearly they are using all Lamkin tech and materials. Different looks for sure. I for one am excited to see the crossline cord 2.0. Reduced taper to simulate 4 extra wraps under the right hand. In genesis material, which isn’t my favorite but it’s pretty good once it wears just a little

Sadly GW told me they can’t reorder any lamkin grips including stock crossline + UTx

Definitely a positive spin. I suppose not everyone enjoys reduced taper though and me included.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be ordering a couple set then. They've lasted a couple years so far so I should be good for a while then.

Seriously, just slap a damn Superstroke logo (not 4 of them all over the place like their grips) on and call it a day.

I've seen a catalog for the REVL lineup. Not accessible online yet. Superstroke did keep the ACE and Genesis compounds that Lamkin had.

Genesis is the compound used in the ST Hybrid and Sonar grips.

ACE is the compound used in the UTX and old REL grips.

The original EDPM rubber formulation Lamkin used for the Crossline 1.0 is likely dead outside the Deep Etch

Crossline 2.0 - Genesis, just like the former Crossline 360 Genesis Cord, just without the cord or the stock Lamkin grips on the Srixon ZXi lineup. +4 on the bottom hand

Crossline 2.0 Cord - ACE, like the old UTX cord. Also +4 on the bottom hand.

Player - Genesis, normal taper

Element - ACE and cord top hand, Genesis bottom hand, normal taper

Comfort - Genesis, wrap style, forgot the taper profile on this, meant to compete with the GP CP2 Wrap.

Deep Etch - smooth profile (Bettinardi stock grip style) , normal Deep Etch (Black and White), and Deep Etch Cord. Lamkin logo replaced with "100" logo used for Lamkin's 100th anniversary

On the marketing side, they are pushing heavy through the golf influencers on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, as well with online and TV ads.

They also have Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, and Sungjae Im lined up to promote the grips, nothing yet on if they will play them.

Awesome info!!! Thanks for the great knowledge albeit very sad. Lamkin stock rubber compound was the GOAT of longevity. I have 10 year old crossline cords that have lived in a garage & feel better than 6mo old BCTs.

With all due respect, Patrick Cantlay wore Dryjoys Tour until 2025, I feel like he’s probably a tour velvet til-death man. Sungjae and spieth might not be as picky.

Superstroke putter grip success is based on the (somewhat insane/impressive) tour adoption. They’re going to need more that GoodGood grips to make a dent in the Golf Pride tour monopoly.

I posted this in another thread:

I saw some of the swing grips at pga superstore. The crossline (non cord) user will still like the grip in my opinion. I didn't see the cord version.

They have a cool mcc style grip.

I was confused because I didn't see superstroke bought Lamkin.

One nice thing is the end cap is flat on the ones I saw including the crossline.

I wasn't aware that Lamkin was acquired.  Thought it was weird that they discontinued the sonar tour grip.  I ended up kind of hoarding a stash, even though I don't currently play them.  Lamkin in my experience has been nothing but solid grips that last forever.

It was discontinued years ago. It wasn't a good seller, and even Justin Rose(who the grip was designed for) couldn't keep it going, he went back to playing REL ACE's

These are some of the best and I hoarded a few sets as well. Lamkin had a knack for removing new grips pretty quickly if they didn’t take off in sales, Sonar Tour ran dry about 12-14mo ago.

I actually have some that are black/red cap with a logo up design (stock was logo down). There was also a ribbed version on tour.

hopefully we get that material and pattern again. Ping has a putter grip with it(fingerprint tech), so I’ll remain hopeful they don’t abandon it for future models.

Is what you’re calling Crossline to the new Revl grip?  Customer service at SS told me the Crossline name is dead AND that they would be what they’re calling a” modern “ taper which is +2 bottom hand.

The catalog I saw was straight from SuperStroke. Customer Service likely hasn't gotten the update on REVL yet and might be confusing it with the original Crossline. As well as the modern taper the ST Hybrid and Sonar have. The catalog specifically mentioned 4 wraps under the bottom hand referring to taper.

He definitely called it by the new name Revl. But it really doesn’t matter at this point to me. I’ve been a Crossline guy for years and since it’s dead I’ll move on.

I saw them in person and the bar code wrap had the word crossline. It might have been Revl Crossline.

Sure, use the old name to get customers to purchase them and then have them find out they’ve been duped and the compound and tapers are different.

Great strategy for a one time sale…not so good to develop lifelong customers.

Don't take this the wrong way, but a few weeks of inventory shortages are really meaningless by itself as any predictor of long term availability, especially with the current state of import economic instability.    I'm not saying it's not true, just that there could be a lot of other reasons.   Is there any other source of corroboration for your concerns or long term predictions?    Official news releases from Lamkin or SS, insider leaks, etc.. ?

Got to see the Crossline 2.0 in person today. It's soft. Softer than the Tour Velvet and the OG Crossline. Tack is there. The +4 taper is definitely pronounced. People who don't like the reduced taper are definitely going to prefer the REVL Player instead.

The SuperStroke logo is also on one side only, so logo down users rejoice.

See the thread I posted above. A few retailers already have the new SS replacements.

https://jackjollygolf.com/search?q=REVL

Crossline 2.0 is an evolution of the iconic Lamkin Crossline that has been trusted by golfers for three decades. The Crossline 2.0 preserves the timeless, tour-proven performance and classic look of the original, now enhanced with innovative improvements from SuperStroke.

Constructed of Genesis material this all-rubber grip is built for durability, maintaining its superior feel and maximum playability.

This grip also incorporates a modern taper with a larger lower hand profile that simulates four extra layers of tape to encourage even grip pressure.”
