New Shafts aquired.

so went and got a couple of shafts from Japan (via Auctions) and ended up with

 

Fujikura Speeder NX Green 60SR flex

Loop BW SR flex

Tour AD DJ-6 SR flex

i understand that the DJ-6 is quite a few years old, but thought i actually bought the DI-6, but hear it is a decent shaft. The Loop is another bespoke one that looked interesting but suspect it has similar characteristics to my OEM Ventus Blue shaft. The one that was of the most interest to me, was i was chasing the ventus velocore blue in a 5R, but picked up the Speeder NX Green for a reasonable price and recently bought some epic forged irons with Speeder evolution shafts (SR flex) and i quite like the combo. 

 

obviously what i'm about to ask is subjective at best, but out of the 3 shafts listed, any reviews? i had the adapters done today for the Loop and Speeder and was thinking that the Speeder was what i was going to pair with my Rogue ST Max driver. I've gone the SR flex (Stiff-Reg) as i dont think my swing speed is fast enough for stiff, but too fast for regular.

Sorry no specifics on those shafts - but just a little piece of advice.

Fitting for stiffness or flex is about a lot more than just swing speed.   How aggressive or smooth the transition plays a bit part and so does your past experience with shafts and personal preferences for stiffness feel (or maybe 'expectations' is a better word).   For some, that later subjective influence can be way more important than anything else.

 

And there is no standard for flex - You can easily be fit into completely different flexes for different shaft models.   So you will never know exactly which flex for any given model is the best fit until you get out and test it.

 

So try to avoid any assumptions or preconceived notions about what flex might or might not be a good fit for you.

im assuming that what flex/shaft is good for you with lets an iron could be dramatically different to a wood? 

 

I think i understand what you were saying re flex can be different based on model. I was looking at the velocore in the 5R as well.

I have two different shafts I use in my driver. A shorter, 70g stiff flex, and a longer, 50g senior flex. They both feel very similar to me, and I can swap them with no noticeable difference in my swing.

Yes it can possibly be different.  I don't know about "dramatic" - that depends on your sensitivity.  But +/- 1 flex isn't uncommon.  And it's not just about different shafts in different clubs.  It can be true even between two different shaft models for the same club.   

 

e.g. an "S" flex in brand A could feel like it has the same stiffness as an "R" flex in brand B for the same club.

Went to the sim on the weekend and had a hit of the NX Green, seemed like it wasn't as whippy as my Ventus Blue 5R (OEM) and was a bit tighter in the dispersion. Also had no problems loading up with a slower more controlled swing and getting similar or better distance than the previous shaft. 

 

I haven't tried the other two yet, but will look to test them as well with the Rogue ST Max head.

I currently play the Speeder NX Green and have enjoyed using it. It plays a bit soft to flex -- mid-high launch, low-mid spin. Quite a smooth profile, even compared to the Ventus Blue.

Did you find the dispersion on the drives to be a bit tighter than the Ventus? Sort of my experience in the sim but I'm mindful that it could be on my head ie shiny new toy

I don't remember dispersion being too different but the combination of launch/spin numbers with the NX were definitely better for my swing than the Ventus range.

Dispersion is not a quality of the shaft by itself.  It's a property of how your swing - and the way in which you control your swing is effected by the different feels (weight and stiffness).    So don't worry - or second guess it - if your experience with a particular shaft does not match what other people might be experiencing.  Trust the results you get with it.   It might be interesting if others have similar experiences but just don't try and use other peoples experiences to validate your own.

No I was just interested to be honest, I understand it's user more than anything. I never mentioned but I used AI to gauge an idea what I could try buy which I know will bring a bit of heat and very controversial. 

 

In Australia I can't try a Stiff Reg flex but thought my swing mechanics just sat in between the two, so wanted to get a few models and then test it.

I find way more people sensitive to shaft weight than flex for center clubface delivery and squareness.  There are plenty who struggle with with stiffness, but not as many as weight, at least in my experience.  I think stiffness plays a part in the fitting without a doubt, but as many have said here so far there is no standard for measuring flexes amongst manufacturers, even sometimes within different models of manufacturers.

A friend of mine runs with X for the driver and noticed his inaccuracies with winding up on those shots disappearing a bit. 

 

For me I noticed that my shots could have been twisting ever so slightly which was leading to going a bit left or right and I couldn't figure out why....unless fatigue was a factor as I do start to fade off. In the sim it's feeling a lot better and I'm curious to try the loop BW and tour AD shaft, but might leave that for a rainy day and different head
