Fujikura Ventus Blue Velocore + Characteristics

For the last 7 years I had been playing the Graphite Design Tour IZ 6 (tipped 1/2). It's been a very good shaft, however, I decided to see if a could find something different with more feel to it.

I purchased a Fuji Ventus Blue Velocore+ 6s for my G2 driver. The shaft does weight about 5 more grams then my previous shaft.

This shaft has a softer butt and stiffer tip. What I'm finding is that I cannot turn this over as easy as the IZ. It's not allow me the shot shape I like (It just takes more effort to turn it). I was talking to my local pro about this shaft and he mentioned because the butt end is softer that could make it so your not able to close the face as fast as the IZ. Obviously golfers have different swing paths etc, but is that a tendency of a softer butt section where its straight to a fade?

Anybody have experience with this shaft?

It's difficult to turn over due to the ultra-stiff tip section.

If someone seeks feel, they need to look for a softer handle, firm might work, but a softer tip is needed as well, for you to turn it over. You may benefit from a softer "R" flex in that shaft.

To answer your last question, IME, NO. Many OEM shaft companies have similar Black, Blue and Red profiles, but each profile varies. This may mean Ventus Blue stiff profile is NOT for you. Again, you might have to look at "R" flex if you like that shaft.

I also have Ventus TR Blue regular - it is much easier to turn over, straight too, but doesn't have the punch I get from "S" flex. I have a fast-tempo and transition so gravitate to ultra-stiff handled, high or mid-high bend shafts. I made mid-bend Ventus TR Blue stiff work for +/- 2yrs before discovering Mitsubishi Diamana GT profile, which has a stiff handle, mid-high bend, stiff mid and a slightly soft tip section, works well with my fast tempo.

Ive got the 5s in my driver, 6s in my 5 wood, and 7s in my 9 wood. I do agree its harder to turn over which is why I love it.

It may be a length issue? I find I can turn it over a fair bit easier if im chocking down a tad.

Ya, I wonder about the lighter version 5s. Its definatly a swing weight higher then my previous shaft.. I play all my drivers at 45 1/4. Considering going to the Red or the 5S. Did you ever try the 6S in your driver?

I've tested the Velo+ blue 6 and 7x and find it's easy to turnover. IZ is another shaft that's easy to turnover. I find shafts like OG/TR/Velo+ black, T1100/Smoke green hulk TX harder to turnover because of the stiff tip plus stiff handle. Softer handle shafts are actually easier for me to turnover. Like you said, different swings react differently to different profile shafts leading to faster or slower face closure rate, strike locations, etc.

I too, found the Velo+ shafts harder to turn over/fade biased. I switched out of the Velo+ and went with the OG Ventus and can now move it right to left as I want without opening myself up to the “diver” left.

Ya that's interesting you found the same characteristics. What version of the shaft? You went with the original blue?

I was in the TR Red and tried the Red Velo+….started fading it and could not draw.

Went to a Blue Velo+ and it faded. Finally switched to OG Blue and love it. I can draw it, fade it easily either way.

Funny how things work based on feel. I found TR versions to be harder to turnover compared to OG and Velo+ counterparts. TR black is in the top 3 shafts of all time that are the most anti-left for me. I too draw the ball naturally but have gone to fade for driver in recent years.
