Upgrading from Mavrik Max irons to Mavrik Pros. Can i keep the same swing weight?

Hi everyone. I was told that this is the top forum to get some really good advise and guidance on my next project.

I’ve been using Mavrik Max irons for the past 3 years and currently play with a 15 handicap. The irons really helped me improve my game and i felt that i wanted to challenge myself to not relying on game improvement irons moving forward. And so i tried looking around and came across some Mavrik Pro irons that came with a really great price. They were practically new and i felt that they would be a great starting point for my next golf journey. So i got them and now my question:

Is it possible for me to maintain my swing dynamics and overall feel of the max irons with the pros? I feel that since the max irons were bigger and heavier, i can compensate the lighter pros with heavier shafts and added weights so as to keep the swing weight the same and not have to change my swing drastically. I currently use NS Pro 850GHs on ky max irons.

Any advise and recommendations would be most appreciated and i hope to hear from the forum experts soon.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Golf WRX!

Perhaps, the best forum for information on swingweight is the Club Tech forum but here’s a link about swingweight:

But, in summary, the heavier shafts will affect swingweight but since the balance points of shafts are different it’s hard to draw conclusion; so a rule of thumb of 1 swingweight point per 9 grams of shaft weight may not be useful.
You didn’t mention the swingweight of your current irons, but the Mavrik Pro with the stock steel shaft was D3. That is not an unusual swingweight and it might be close to your current set.
However, it’s important to consider changing shaft weight can have a significant effect on your swing and some golfers are also sensitive to swingweight.  This varies by individual.

" No I'm not Grandpa, I'm playing tennis."
"No, you're playing golf and you're going to like it."

Why do you think the Max irons are heavier? Have you weighed both sets? Are you talking swing weight or overall weight?

I would try hitting them before doing anything regarding rebuilding. If both are factory builds, the Max irons are D0 for graphite and D2 for steel. The Pro iron is D1 for graphite and D3 steel. You probably won't even notice the difference.

I never quite understand why the steel shafts always seem to have the heavier swingweight.

I would think it would be the graphite with their typical lighter weight shaft with a heavier head.

Can anyone explain this to me?

Shafts also contributes to swing weight. The heavier end of a graphite shaft is the tip. But the stock graphite shaft for the Max iron was super light.

Also, with these light weight graphite shafts, OEM’s must think only slow swinging players are buying them. They think that means light swing weights would be better for that player. But that’s not always true.

That’s why you have to either custom order or learn to rebuild sets to what you need.

Clubs with graphite shafts don't use heavier heads. If anything, they might use lighter heads, especially if they are built to a longer length.

Stock graphite shafted clubs tend to be targeted to a market that wants  (or needs) lighter weight clubs.

What I meant was - if you used the same head on a graphite and steel shaft - I would think the club with the graphite shaft would have the higher swing weight since graphite shafts are typically lighter.

Sorry,,,I didn't word my first statement very well
