Titleist 680 Iron Re-release

I'm intruiged by these. Never have hit a set. So what is it about them that spins so well? What is different about the ball flight?

They have a higher COG combined with weak lofts.

they come off the face hot considering their lofts, super spinny, have the old school sizzling ball flight that rises up and falls sharply. Not ideal for being into a stiff wind, but incredible shot making capabilities compared to modern irons.

these are a full club weaker than my zxi7 in most irons but aren’t a full club shorter in actual distances until you get into 3,4,5 irons where spin takes more distance off.

I play most of my golf in AZ on firm greens. I can sit down a 3,4 iron like a normal 8 iron. Have seen 7 and 8 irons one hop and stop dead.

I can't believe anyone would buy these until we have solid knowledge about the manufacturing company.  My best guess is that these are just forged into 680 shape by whoever is pressing the current 620MB irons.

The fact that Titleist CS isn't saying and is feigning ignorance is telling.  If Endo forged these like they did the originals, it would be all over their press release on this re-issue.  That's basically the hand of god in forging and would certainly increase sales.

I even asked my local Titleist rep and he "didn't know anything about them".

Who manufactures the current 620 or t series?  Are they suddenly not good enough?

That wasn't the point.  620mb are good irons.  I've played them.

680mb are specifically forged by Endo, and that is one of several reasons they are revered.  And if the current iterations are not, then why spend $2000 if they aren't the same as the legendary 680's?  "I bought the re-issue of the 680's - no they aren't forged like the originals but I'm ok with the high price tag.  I just want some copies for my collection"

If you're ok with that, then bombs away!

But ask the wife if she'd like her Tiffany wedding ring made by someone else.

And to your point - no, the T-series aren't known for their great feel.  Endo is.  Feel is ONE of the things the 680's are known for.

Valid points.

my point was the tseries is the most played iron on tour, and the 620 has a high adoption of 5-pw on tour.

the tseries on here feel great to most on here.

There are few people that will notice the difference hitting the endo forged 680 next to the non endo forged.

I just got off the phone with Titleist CS - I specifically spoke with Andrew.  1-800-333-4200.

The re-issue of the 680 are forged by the same company they've been using to forge the 620mb.  They are simply the shape of the 680, but he specifically clarified that Endo is NOT forging these.  He wasn't guessing - he stated this as a known fact.

You can call and ask for him..

So if this is fine with you as a 680 re-issue buyer, then great!

When it comes to feel - I think my old MP 32s and Nike VRs (the first iteration of VR) feels better than my 620s.

If these are not OG forgings then you're just basically buying overpriced 620s.

I was seriously debating on buying these but now I'm for sure going to pass.

Interestingly enough - I got off the phone with 2 different reps - both of whom confirmed that these are forged by Endo.

I'll share thoughts when they arrive.

Interestingly enough - I got off the phone with Sam - and when pressed - he asked other folks and told me that they WERE forged by Endo.  😕

I actually just bought a set based on that info.

Wow - that would be something.   They need to get their story straight.  We should inundate them.  🙂

The second rep was quick to offer up the info saying that they'd confirmed with their R&D department.

I'll be pretty disappointed if they are not as it was the reason I pulled the trigger.  If I was lied too by two separate reps, so be it.  I've had $2200 before.  I'll have $2200 again.  😄

Unfortunately, those CS reps do not always have the correct info.

So just to clarify - are you confident that these are NOT Endo forged?  How confident on a scale from 1 - 10 and why?

As I said - that's the key reason I picked up a set - and I feel like I can still cancel if folks here are 100% sure.

I was told they are not forged by Endo anymore but who really knows?  You may really like them even if they are not though.

Fair enough.  I'm now spamming linkedin messages to all kinds of folks from Eng to Field Sales trying to get an answer. 😄

Edit - I've also cancelled my order as I'd like to know for sure prior to purchasing.

Ok - so I got a response saying Hoffman forged the 680 - but I thought Hoffman had shut down.  He was high up at Titleist, and it was very kind of him to respond on a Friday evening.  I think maybe he just missed the "reissue" part of my question?

Also valid points - however - I very much disagree with the third.  I have some Endo forgings (Epon 302, X-Forged '13, and 690.CB I believe), as well as a set of Baby Blades and Miura 1008 CBs.  The Endo stuff is very, very noticeably different.  Endo is more like Mizuno, while Miura is more like TM ime.  Both are nice in their own ways - but miles apart in terms of feel imo.

Just my opinion - but I feel strongly enough to put $2k on it (if we could just get some confirmation).

I've proceeded to leave VMs and dive into some DMs on socials looking for answers.  😄

Hahaha - true true.

Also - got another response from a Titleist exec stating that they're forged at the same facility as the original - and therefore, are Endo forged.

Maybe I just bite the bullet.
