He's won 3x with the OG black this year.  I'd be sticking with the shaft that's gotten me to number 2 in the world.  I'm sure Rory tests a bunch of shafts throughout the year but always goes to back to what he's comfortable with.  I've also noticed he likes shafts that are very tip and handle stiff and the OG black is the best of the best, IMO in terms of that profile.

its really not that big of a deal - we are the 1% of the 1% who notices Qi35 vs Qi10. Drivers are very sensitive for a player like Rory and losing the one he was comfortable with is going to mess with his game and clearly has. 

 

Everyone on here obsesses over every little detail and almost all of us suck, yet when the very best in the world are picky there is incessant chatter about it??

It always makes me laugh seeing Rory with the P760's for 2 reasons.

 

1. Makes me wonder if ill ever be happy again when mine need replaced

 

2. Rick Shiels HATED on the P760 long irons cause of to much offset. Yet there they are

True, however, we all know that bad stretches happen.  He's in a temporary slump.  He'll figure it out sooner or later.  The man is too talented to not win again, not to mention that he's got mental fortitude now.  Remember, he was in the XC 2 years ago and that lasted a week.

I know the TM fitting was a bit of a joke video, but the numbers Rory had with the Ventus Red were insane. Is anyone else shocked he has not actually given that a whirl?

Oh I know, I think the Rory stuff gets my goat a little however. He gets so much guff for every little thing on the forum and I don't understand why sometimes. It's really hard to find the right driver even for us and would be multiples of that for him. 

 

Conversely Tiger was revered and legendary for the ability to notice 3 grams weight difference yet he is clowned for trying multiple drivers until he gets it right. He is the 2nd best golf in the world (gotta give SS props) and they should build him 700 drivers until he is happy

I think the difference between Tiger and Rory when it comes to equipment is Rory gives us insight to his neurotic thoughts about his driver and how it effects his play.

 

tiger was more curt and didn’t really act like it was that big of a deal publicly and took more ownership of the outcomes vs imply switching clubs made a difference.

Yes. Honestly, paint it (shaft) black in finishing and call it a day. I think if his driving isn’t there this week, people will keep talking and he’ll be doing more testing.

He needs to move to a part-time tour schedule and just focus on playing the majors

Not sure saying "he doesn't care anymore" is correct. The Masters was just 2months ago. A massive goal and weight was lifted for him, and him being one of the few Pro Golfers to constantly speak up and give engaging interviews about LIV, PGA, the future, being in board meetings etc... I'm not surprised he hasn't played great in the FEW tournaments since the Masters. 

 

On the driver topic, not sure if people caught this during his interview Tuesday?, when they asked him what driver he was using he would only say Taylormade and come see on the range. Seemed like he was refusing to say in public the "older model".   Love him or hate him, he has been amazing for Taylormade and what he says and doesn't to help that brand

Fact or opinion? Is there evidence he doesn't care? I think he absolutely cares about golf and wants to win. I think he's just in a slump and in a bad mood. Maybe it's fatigue. Maybe it's something personal. Maybe it is the equipment. I have no idea. But I do know that he plays his best golf when he's in a good mood and he doesn't seem too happy at the moment.

 

I always think it's funny when people talk about athletes not caring. Fans want every athlete to care about winning as much as MJ, Tiger, and Brady, but the reality is those guys cared too much and neglected their personal lives in their pursuit. It's not healthy and I think today's athletes have noticed that and are better at maintaining some balance in their lives. Some athletes do mail it in for various reasons, but Rory doesn't strike me as one of those types of athletes. If anything, he cares too much about the overall game of golf.

I took the same thing from that interview. He's just not going to throw TaylorMade, one of his biggest sponsors, under the bus. He knew what the interviewer was looking for and he smartly didn't give it to him. 

 

There is a bunch of guys on tour playing Ping drivers with other OEM headcovers on them to appease their sponsors. I have never heard one of them get questioned about it in an interview. Of course, Rory is the star and is going to get the tough questions, but don't expect him to be nice when he deems the question unfair.

Agree with most of this.

 

the difference between Rory and those others are 

he’s considered the best driver of the golf ball in modern times

hes opened the door to that conversation by talking about impacts of switching drivers 

 

then don’t bug Scottie because well Scottie doesn’t talk about his equipment and how it impacts his game.  He brushes it off and changes the narrative to his swing, what he needs to do better, etc….
