I always think it's funny when people talk about athletes not caring. Fans want every athlete to care about winning as much as MJ, Tiger, and Brady, but the reality is those guys cared too much and neglected their personal lives in their pursuit. It's not healthy and I think today's athletes have noticed that and are better at maintaining some balance in their lives. Some athletes do mail it in for various reasons, but Rory doesn't strike me as one of those types of athletes. If anything, he cares too much about the overall game of golf.

Agree with much of this. Put it this way. He had a huge emotional release winning at Augusta, and he said himself that was his final goal in golf. Adrift, fatigued, rudderless might be better words. Of course he wants to win. Hopefully this weekend he gets into contention and it shocks him back into focus. He'll figure it out eventually.

 

As for the driver and questions. I'm a massive Rory fan. He's done so much for golf and for the Tour specifically. I hate watching him get hit with silly questions about a one year old driver, when others play stuff like the G425... and then the fan reaction online is to dump on him some more for his unwillingness to trash on his equipment brand. He must be so tired of the circus around the game

the difference between Rory and those others are 

he’s considered the best driver of the golf ball in modern times

hes opened the door to that conversation by talking about impacts of switching drivers 

 

then don’t bug Scottie because well Scottie doesn’t talk about his equipment and how it impacts his game.  He brushes it off and changes the narrative to his swing, what he needs to do better, etc….

That's fair and I hope Rory continues to speak candidly about his equipment. I think it's interesting.

Tired is probably a great way to describe his feelings lately. I always wonder what goes through someone's head when they finally achieve a goal they worked their whole life to achieve. There has to be a some sort of let down after the initial joy wares off. Success can feel awfully empty after you put things into perspective. There has to be some feeling of regret considering how much these people sacrifice and the toll it takes on their personal life.

I'd bet Taylormade have stopped putting the DOT on the Version2 heads now,

as more people are aware that they're not playing the same drivers as the pros and not happy.

He’s won a few tournaments this year with TaylorMade equipment. I can’t imagine what his season would have been with some T100s and a GT3 in the bag 🤯. Rors Slam?

Rors seems to be playing much better with Qi10 and p760s out there. If he keeps this up, could be a good tournament for him.
