Alright, I finally figured out how to use Trackman. After watching a few videos, I learned how to use the “tag” feature, which made things much easier. I didn’t have time, but I would’ve liked to export the data as a CSV.

Trackman settings: Elevation set to 4,500 ft (average for SLC).

TM Stealth 3 wood

  • Loft: 15°

  • Lie: 59°

  • Length: 43.25"

Wilson 5 wood

  • Loft: 18°

  • Lie: 58°

  • Length: 41.75" (stock is 42.50")

As expected, the Wilson carried shorter off the deck. That 3° loft difference averaged about 25 yards for me on Trackman. Honestly, that makes more sense than the TM 3 wood averaging 300 yards—it’s an awesome club, but I just don’t see where it fits in my bag unless I completely lose the driver.

Launch angle was a bit higher with the Wilson, too. I don’t think I hit my best shots with it—tough to dial things in after a swing lesson when your brain's still busy thinking. If I could change anything, I might’ve gone 1–2° more upright on the lie angle.

Still, it’s a great club. Off a tee, I pushed a few out to 300 yards. Hoping that with more time on Trackman, I can fine-tune the launch angle a bit more.

Now for the hybrids:

Tour Edge Exotics 3h

  • Loft: 19°

  • Lie: 58.5°

  • Length: 40.25"

Wilson 4h

  • Loft: 22°

  • Lie: 59.5°

  • Length: 40" (-0.25" from stock)

The Wilson hybrid is just automatic. It fits perfectly in the gap and averaged 252 yards on Trackman with a 14.5° launch angle. The Exotics 3h was about 25 yards longer, which checks out given the 3° loft difference. That Wilson hybrid is incredible—I can’t see myself replacing it anytime soon.

Definitely want to test out a utility iron next. Thanks to GolfWRX and Wilson! I'll continue to come back to this thread as I work on my swing and play.

Let me know if you want a slightly more polished or technical version, or if you plan to post this somewhere more formal.

Man I wish I played at elevation. That would really strike my ego a bit. I could never imagine carrying a 5w 280ish or a 4h 250. Wowza

props to you on your CHS and being able to hit center of face.

Haha it is nice in the Summer. I've struggled the few times i've played at sea level. The CHS can come back and bite me tho, if I'm not taking a methodical approach with practice and work on the mechanics - it gets all hands and will steepen the swing. There's no amount of forgiveness or slowing down my swing to fix poor setup/take-away. After getting done with grad school in the spring this year, it's all I've been trying to focus on.

Played another round and unlocked a new favorite thing about the 3 wood.  Off the deck it's shockingly easy to hit.  Hit it from both the rough and the fairway and it was easy to elevate.  I hit it straight from the rough and hit a little draw from the fairway.  Every round I find something new to love.

100% agreed.  Can't remember last time I've had this much confidence in my fairways.  The 5 wood is quickly becoming my favorite club in the bag

After all of these rounds, I can officially say the 3 wood has a permanent spot in my bag.  Last night I gave myself the opportunity to hit a punch fade from the rough and it was a thing of beauty. Jury is still out on the hybrid but I think that it's going to make the bag as well.

And the 7 wood. Well, it did 7 wood things. I'll never utter a bad word about the 7 wood.

The DYNAPWR Carbon 3 wood has earned its spot in my bag. I'm going to update my signature with it as soon as I hit "Submit Reply" on this post. I've loved feeling like I can swing it HARD, get more distance than I've gotten out of 3 woods in the past, and have no fear of losing it right (lefty here). The left start line and little draws I'm seeing from this club, even on mishits, is just so impressive to me. It's mostly a tee club for me, with use only on long par 5s where it's all green lights, room for the ball to land and run a bit.

The 5 wood has a serious chance; I'm going to get it on a launch monitor soon and see if I can tweak the settings to dial back the distance just a little bit so that the gapping makes sense.

After what I feel confident in saying was a true test, my time with the 4 hybrid has reached its end. I've talked a lot about it in previous posts, but I'll recap really quickly:

Hybrid pros:

-- Sound and feel are terrific. Really gives nothing up to any other OEM in this regard.

-- The ball flight is really high from the 4 hybrid. I tend to deliver too little dynamic loft, and a 22 degree hybrid has been a struggle at times to elevate (that's why I've gone 7W into 5H in this part of the bag in the past).

-- Relatively low spin, too, so the distance from the 4 hybrid was great. It carried farther than a Ping G430 4 hybrid I have turned down to 21 degrees.

-- The sole works well. I didn't have any trouble getting the ball out of thick rough, and didn't feel it digging on cleaner lies.

Hybrid cons:

-- No adjustable hosel. I really hope Wilson will consider moving in that direction.

-- Lie angle was just too upright for me, and face sat a touch closed.

-- Relatively low spin, combined with the upright lie angle and closed face, left me really struggling with over-drawing the ball. I've now hit hundreds of shots with this hybrid, and come to the conclusion that this just isn't something I can control consistently enough to feel comfortable having it in the bag long-term.

Wilson appears to see the Carbon line as more "players"-oriented ... although I'm not sure it's quite that simple. The Carbon line of fairway woods has been quite a bit more forgiving than I expected. I would love to see them launch a Carbon hybrid at some point in the future, bringing in some of the elements they've perfected with the fairway woods -- weight adjustability, adjustable hosel, flatter starting lie angle, more neutral face angle. I think that sort of product would be a home run, and is something I'd be in line to pre-order the first day possible!

I feel the same way about the MAX when it comes to the 3 wood. I hit one that i lost to the right (RH) and that was a piss poor swing on my part.  I feel like I can lean back and let it rip if I really want to.

I think the Carbon 4 wood would be a good fit for me, but I'm not taking chances because the Max has been really good to me.

I also have the same feeling about the hybrid. It just wants to draw.
