Ventus black Velocore + vs. Tour AD VF head to head

Does anyone have any comparisons between the two shafts? any numbers would be helpful as well.

I dont have numbers but played the black for 5 years recently switched to the VF. I launch VF lower and lower spin 90ft peak height 2300 spin. Definitely longer with VF and feel is way better.

Velo+ black is slightly lower launch/spin compared to VF.  I'm talking 1* difference and 200-300 rpm.  Velo+ black felt pretty good/smooth, but VF takes the cake.  We have to talk about EI profile and Velo+ black has a really stiff handle and the VF is softer and it's noticeable.  VF has that subtle kick under the handle whereas the ever subtle kick for Velo+ black is closer to the mid.

AD VF has a stiffer handle, loses more stiffness more quickly, has a softer low mid section, and then loses very little stiffness from there into a stable tip. The handle section is (afaik) tapered like other “blue” profiles and if you’re familiar with the smooth feel and accelerated loss of stiffness in the butt section, VF will feel similar. 
 

Black+ starts with a softer handle, loses more stiffness than OG Ventus black does to start with, and then loses less stiffness than OG for the bottom half of the shaft. Compared to OG black, Black+ feels softer in the handle, takes more time to release, and feels more stable in the tip. Similar in some ways to Diamana PD, or even the AD GP (though this is softer in the mid section). Compared to VF, it’s softer in the top half of the shaft, and similar but slightly stiffer in the bottom half. 
 

Upwards AoA players will generally launch Black+ higher with less spin (but more potential launch variance), while AD VF will launch in a more consistent window probably with fractionally more spin. 
 

Downwards AoA players will launch VF higher with less spin and may see the low, spinny ball with Black+ (because it hasn’t released yet). Or potentially black+ will launch low and fall out of the sky. 

 

Note the bend profile signature graph on the right of each chart, as that corresponds most accurately to what players feel. Despite being *objectively* softer in the handle, Black+ can *feel* stiffer in the handle because it’s losing less stiffness, and the hinge (to the extent it exists) is closer to the ~20” mark. VF, despite being objectively stiffer in the handle, can feel softer because the point at which it’s losing stiffness most quickly is in the ~32” mark. 

Again, what players feel is not absolute stiffness but the relative loss of stiffness along the shaft

I have hit both, side by side, same head, GT2, in 5x flex.

The performance was almost identical as far as spin and launch, the Ventus was maybe a hair lower in both.

The Ventus was a tad more anti-left.

The VF felt WAAAAAAY better.

The VF is in my bag.

I launch the VF just a touch higher than the Black VC+, and prefer the smoother feel of the VF. Numbers are real close. If you like a stiffer handle, I’d go black. If you get along with a little less stiffness in the handle and prefer a smoother feel, than VF.

Adding Tensei 1k black to the discussion, is this shaft very similar to Black VC but with a softer handle?

The only similarities between 1k black and Velo+ black is that both are true low/low shafts.  While I wouldn't consider the Velo+ black smooth, it's got good feel to it.  1k black feels dead.  Velo+ black was also a touch more stable/anti-left.

Agree.

 

1k black in tx (that’s the comparison to Ventus x) doesn’t have as much sensation of load as Ventus.  I would say the 1k black is one of the most linear out there

Below is the profile of the VF 6 X from my GOLFSMITH frequency analyzer.

Closest match in my DB is the KBS TD 3.

I will get my hands on the VENTUS BLACK 5X next week.
